A new Twitter account has suggested that Danny Wilson might be after Michael Doyle. Please, please let this be true.

If there is any truth in this then maybe, just maybe, there's some light at the end of the tunnel. I know Doyle had a great game at Villa but we shouldn't be exclaiming about great performances from our key players; they should be the norm.

Aside from the fact that he'll be off the wage bill, how will this improve the team?

aye, as much as we need to refresh that area, there is no point shipping him out unless we have a replacement.

Please somebody confirm this is true. I will start to believe that there IS a god.
I will also volunteer to drive him to Oakwell and supply the pen for him to sign the contract.

The position he occupies currently is a crucial one and requires a player who can perform consistently well, week after week. Not one good game against "soft" premiership opposition. We can do sooooo much better in that position as we lose the midfield battle most weeks.

Please Nigel ...... you know it makes sense.

Can we please put a ban on twitter rumours from unknown/random accounts. No offense Balham.

Aside from the fact that he'll be off the wage bill, how will this improve the team?

It'll free up a significant amount of wages. Bearing in mind that we signed him during the halcyon days of Mickey Adams' tenure, had to convince him to sign an extension to accept a wage cut and have heard reference to "legacy" contracts being the problem at the club I'd be surprised if he was on less than £7,000 per week.

That is enough to go out and find an imposing, mobile central midfielder on loan for the rest of the season. Every time we win a game I find myself hoping that Doyle will get sent off in the last minute as I genuinely believe we'd be a better side without him.

In the short term, Coady is a central midfielder who'd do well in that role. Medium term, maybe Whitehouse can make it his own? Short, medium and long term, the club will have to find a new captain and maybe this time they can choose someone whose abilities stretch beyond bollocking young players for making mistakes.

None taken. Normally I pay no attention to this kind of thing but this time I let the hope that it might be true get the better of me. Do you reckon we could get Wilson to take Hill too?? :)

Because, my dear chap, Doyle is one of the poorest midfield players in this division and occupies a key position.

We could and should do soooo much better, for a lot less outlay on wages. He sometimes manages to go through the game without touching the ball more than a couple of times and without completing a pass to one of OUR players.

Here we go. Another Doyle bash.

As somebody else has posted on this forum recently - he's the unsung hero in the team. Our team at present without Doyle would be a lot worse than with Doyle.

Suppose we always need a player to target though.

But people were distraught when McDonald left who was probably the most inconsistent performer in recent times.

Sorry mate cant agree with you here. Im not getting hysterical over Doyle, but he simply isnt good enough even for this level of the 3rd division. He is certainly nowhere near a hero and a reasonably consistent performer in that position WOULD transform our current team.

We are outplayed / over run in midfield almost every match, i regret to say.

Go on then, find me the stats to back that bugger up. Last I checked he's been our captain through one of the worst periods of our history and has been an ever present this season... a season that has found us towards the bottom of the third tier of English football.

and they are slitting their wrists because Brandy (1 decent game) and Cuvelier (no decent games) are on their way. Bonkers.

both going to teams above us in the league, yet the fucking shit that turns out for us week in week out remain untouchable. that's bonkers.

ps Wouldn't worry about Hill. With Clough's transfer policy he is the 1 first eleven player under threat

Strange Sitwell likes this thread about not bashing Doyle, yet is all over Hill like a cheap prossie.

Why strange ? Doyle is much more valuable to us than Hill. Why do you get off on so much negativety ?

I've been labelled as chief clapper in the past, but even I'd say that while it's almost an example of choosing between a dog shit and a cat shit sandwich; Hill has been infinitely better than Doyle in the course of both players' times at the Lane.

Doyle is the worst captain and amongt the worst players I have ever watched in my 34 years as a Blade. He's a negative influence on the squad and has about one good game in ten.

I fucking love us being shit and I can't get enough. Moving on, just because you have value in Doyle but can't stand Hill and I don't agree I am negative one. Your full of it pal because a captain who's team folds everytime it concedes has no value.

Sorry .... pal ??? but can you tell me who we can put in the middle in place of Doyle ,Hill has been replaced by others already by Clough so obviously isn't good enough , although as a replacement centre half I would have him as a sub until we get someone new.
No need to patronise me ...........pal.

Don't get your knickers in a twist about the pal.

Personally at this point, I would replace love to replace Collins with Hill however there are no left backs left a the club. I would replace Doyle with Coady to play alongside McGinn with Baxter playing deeper and Miller playing from the right as per Stevenage etc; Paynter would be given a shot upfront.

I would also make Hill captain as he is the only player who encourages, motivates and picks up players from the poor experience we have in this side. This really is the crux of the problem, just because your over 30 doesn't make your experience good and we don't have any who have done anything with their career.

This January transfer window has only seen fringe players leave and nobody to come in to improve the starting 11. Paynter hopefully might, however he has played 1 game all season.

As it stands the starting 11 as it is doesn't have the balls to fight this one out. We really need a left back, central midfielder (all action) and quick mobile striker with good movement.

Is it a coincidence but did our decline commence when Doyle replaced Monty....blue touch paper lit, stand well back!

Matt Hill - captain ? Hasn't he cost us enough points as already ,Im sure this motivated his team mates massively. Like ive said before ,nice bloke-shocking footballer.

We don't have a ball winning CM currently at the club who can replace Doyle, but if we could move him on we can easily get one for significantly less than his "estimated" £ 5-7 kpw.
Most other 3rd division sides have a ball winning CM who is better and faster and stronger than Doyle.
Hill is also a liability and must be replaced in the JTW if we are to avoid a relegation battle for the rest of the season.
No hysteria needed ....... just action from Nigel BEFORE Saturday.
