It isn't over though, is it. We don't really have anything more or less to play for in the next 7 games than we've had for the last 2 months.
We've been effectively relegated for ages. Making it official just allows all the banter to start.
All things being relative, this squad of players should be utterly ashamed of themselves this season. They've humiliated themselves, the club, and us (IMO).
We need something to give us hope.

I don't think anyone has been humiliated.

The players aren't good enough but that's hardly their fault and they are better than 99.9% of the population so that's hardly humiliating.

Wilder didn't have the budget to deliver a significantly better team. Just the way it was, hardly humiliating.

I'm one of the "us" and I can promise you that I'm not humiliated. My contribution to this season's shit show has been absolutely zero so nothing humiliating there.

I'm still proud to hold my head up, call myself a Blade, and defend our position against any right minded argument.

Totally agree FD. I just feel so fucking let down, so sad, so fucking angry. And if that lazy cunt gets picked today it's over for me.

A couple of months ago I was half expecting us to rally, get back into contention to stay up, then fuck it up on the last day. There’s a real truth though in “it’s the hope that kills you”. It’s become like watching a series of Greek tragedies, you know it’s going to end badly, you’re just watching to see how the tragedy manifests itself. Will it be a late own goal? Will we concede early and fall to pieces? Who’s going to get injured this week?

I did qualify my comments by saying they were 'in my opinion'. I feel humiliated (in footballing terms), if you don't, that's fine. I know a lot of other Blades that do.
The players you describe as "not good enough", strangely, were much more than good enough last season. Weird that, isn't it? They've gone from 9th place and pushing for Europe to 'one of the worst ever Premier League teams'. Why? Oh, yes. "We just didn't have the budget to deliver a significantly better team". How much did we spend then? I thought we spent a lot more than teams like Burnley, Brighton, Southampton, and other teams who haven't struggled this season.
I know we don't pay what other clubs pay, and that we only have 2 years in the Prem as opposed to the regular incomes over a few of the teams above us. If we had really competed and gone down by just a few points I don't think anyone would have been that surprised and I don't think we'd be critisisng the players like a lot have done. But we haven't. We haven't even turned up in some games and, in my opinion, the overall season has been humiliating. And it's not yet over.

Had this same conversation with my wife only this morning.

I said to her that it's so much better to get it over and done with early doors rather than wait for the last minutes of the season a la Walsall, Chelsea and Wigan to name but three.

The only thing that is going to give me hope is the new manager coming in before the end of the month.

He needs to be in asap, assessing the squad, who he wants to keep, who he wants to let go and targeting new players. If that doesn't start until June/July you can bet your life we make a shit start to next season as this squad is thoroughly demoralised and playing the same playes/formation game after game is making it worse.

If the new man comes in and imposes his style of football on the squad and if we keep getting beat at least the squad and fans will know we are building for next season.

It's the same old same old every game that is sucking the life out of our club
 



It’s the Sheff United way, get our hopes up after some fantastic seasons and harbour genuine hopes for us to establish ourselves at the top table and maybe contend for a cup, only for it to come crashing down in spectacular fashion.

I doubt there’s a Blade alive that saw us last win the FA Cup, we just aren’t accustomed to success!

I don’t care by the way, I love the Blades, the FA Cup semis and nearly moments, the play off final heartbreaks, the last day relegations, it’s all part of the package of being a Blade.

I woundnt change it because there’s always that hope that one day, the stars might align and we might win something. And it will feel all the more special because when it does.

Last season was the problem.

The players overachieved by so much that it gave far too many people a false sense of security and unrealistic expectations for this season.

As Wilder often said "we all have to be at 100% all of the time in order just to compete"

He was right, and whilst that may work in the short term it's quite obviously unsustainable in the longer term, and that's what was never properly addressed last summer.
 
Not sure West Ham delaying the inevitable is actually a good thing, the torture just continues for another week!

I don't disagree with any of that. Of course we overachieved last season. I and most of the Blades I know were confident that we'd stay up but not a ninth place finish. Never.
The point i'm making is that we haven't just 'dropped off' this season. We have completely collapsed in pathetic, passive heap.
We know we have to be at 100% as CW said, but this season a lot of our players (some of whom have signed new deals on much better terms) haven't turned up at all, the tactics have been useless, the commitment hasn't been there at all, and the message from the management has just been one of complete defeatism from early doors.
If they'd even given 75% we'd be in a better position with our heads held a bit higher, but it's been consistently rubbish most weeks.
I still love United but sometimes you just have to say that 'crap is crap' and these players and the management (IMO) have let us all down.

I pretty much agree with that too apart from the commitment bit.

I don't think it's been effort that's been lacking for the largest part, I think it's a combination of confidence and ability 👍
