I genuinely can't decide if you are being ironic. We should be happy because we nearly won at home to Crawley?

Surely that is ironic. Isn't it?

We're not in the Championship any more. We're a League 1 club now. 5 years ago, we'd have flattened Crawley. But it's not 5 years ago, is it. We've broken the losing streak against a side on form, scored for the first time in hours of gameplay, the first half was awful but the 2nd was much better, and you're all still bleating about us not winning. Maybe that's a sense of entitlement hungover from our Championship years, but realistically, Friday night was the first thing we had to shout about in a long time. I'm not saying that's a good thing, but Jesus Christ we actually managed to avoid defeat! It's an upward trajectory. Only slightly. Very slightly. But it's up.

Seriously if (and that's a big if) we collect points in our next 2 fixtures, watch all this "Weir Out" nonsense quietly disappear. Football fans are so achingly fickle. So you sack the manager, what then? You think someone else is gonna swoop in, wave a magic wand and make Lyle Taylor the new RVP and we win every game 5-0?

All signs before kick-off pointed to a heavy home defeat on Friday. I groaned along with everyone else when they conceded after 9 minutes. I never boo the team, but that reception was justified at half time, for sure. They improved in the 2nd half, kept their tails up and grabbed a point. Maybe I'm young and idealistic, but at least that's something good.

Don't get me wrong here. I've watched SUFC since the mid-90's, and this is far and away the worst side they have ever had in that time. So yes, a 1-1 draw at home to Crawley is a positive result at this stage in the club's history. Welcome to SUFC's doldrum years. Let's get settled in, 'cos we ain't going anywhere fast.

Even as long ago as...ooh April ... a failure to beat Crawley cost a proper manager his job. There is nothing, absolutely nothing, that is good about a club with the resources of Sheffield United failing to beat a club with the resources of Crawley Town at home. The fact that drawing with them is seen as a positive shows what a huge stinking pile of crap we are in.

Alco said and, I agree with this, I genuinely and seriously think we would have done better over the last 10 games if we had had no manager and the players had just all met 30 mins before the game started and worked out amongst themselves the best way to play.

It would be virtually impossible for a new manager to do worse than Weir, so replacing him with the editor of the Daily Mail or my dead granny would be a positive as far as I am concerned.

It may be that Weir will suddenly turn it around and turn out to be Alex Ferguson Mark II. I would love it if that happened. All the evidence at the moment is that he is as likely to turn into Alex Ferguson as he is to turn into Alexander the Great.

Er, I don't know. Ask him. But now he's finally realised what we all knew already, why fire him? Why not wait and see if we don't shoot up the league table? A new manager is only going to play 4-4-2 anyway.

Because theres lots more to managing than just picking the formation. Motivation is the most important in my eyes and Weir cant do it, he makes all our players play well below their level rather than above like he should be doing. He is shite get rid now!

Are you David Weir? At no point in this season will anybody at any point refer to Weir as Alex Ferguson unless they are taking the piss!

I think it may be debatable but I recon we have a better squad than last season... or at very worst a similar level squad and yet we are joint bottom of a league we have been unlucky not to escape over last couple of seasons, yet you come on defending the 1 factor that has changed us from playoff challenging to relegation fodda!

What is wrong with you? I could understand saying give him a couple more games if I was a Weir family member but even in the back of their minds they must be thinking he's not cut out for management...

What is it that gives you hope that this is the man to take us forward... is it the way he stands emotionless on the touchline...his track record in management...his ability to read the game and change things up mid game...his ability to lift the team when things arnt going our way...

or is it that you're a pig?

I'm not saying he's the man to "take us forward." By which I assume you mean "get us promoted." He's obviously proved that's not gonna happen. But the main point there is that dropping Weir and bringing in someone else is likely to do nothing. What happens when they sack Weir, then the next guy has a poor run?

Ill bet you £100 the next man never goes 11 games without wining and loses 8 of those. This is more than just a bad run this is the mark of a manager who hasnt a clue what hes doing!

You sound like the sort of guy that would crack a smile after finding a three day old piece of Pizza behind the sofa.
Knock the pubes off it and Nom, happy days.

How much poorer can it be? Really?

I agree with Darren - results would have been better if the lads had no manager and met up to decide what they were going to do 30 mins before kick off. It is that bad!

You do appear to have excellent taste in music though, judging by the avar :)

We win games and go up the table and finish easily in the top half and the fans get to hear a bit of Tom Hark by the Piranahs when the ball hits the back of the net, optamism may creep in and people may want to join us next season instead of leave us...and we slowly crawl our way back up to where we should be in the championship within 3 seasons...

Weir reminds me of Bryan Robson, we got rid of him and employed and average manager in Blackwell who knew the club and took us from relegation to just shy of playoffs

and here's me thinking I'd rather have his choice of manager than his music! Takes all sorts . . . .

(having said that both Dark Side and WYWH made me a fairly hefty chunk when I car booted my vinyl some years back)

You should try some Porcupine Tree as well Greco :)
It's progressive don't yer know?

I picked up Signify from a "bargain bin" some years ago. My mate had told me they were OK, I don't think we've spoken since!

I never "got" Prog at all, Yes, ELP, T Dream, Floyd et al, never did it for me live or on record.

Anyway, I've decided if Weir were a musical genre, prog rock would be it, looks like it should be good but delivers bugger all excitement or satisfaction.

On that basis, Warnock must be punk; exciting and unpredictable but sneered at by the musical purists as he "can't play".

John Harris is "heavy rock" then. Ruled the late 60's/early70's with excitement and class. Couldn't stop becoming outdated as his rythym section got past it.

Blackwell is X-factor styleie pop. Plenty of record sales but duller than dishwater. Outlives it's sell by date to this day.

Bassett as Oi? Admittedly and cheerfully yobbish, when things are going well great fun, but when things are going badly darkly violent.

Good call.

Porterfield as Brit Pop. Followed years of decline with an upturn in style and performance. Ultimately not as good as it could have been but still fondly remembered by some.

Micky Adams is Jazz. Unfathomable and simply crap.

Anyone fill the New Romantic role?

How about Bryan Robson as glam rock? On the face of it promoting optimism and fun, but in reality empty and disappointing and with strange things going on in the privacy or dressing rooms/offices*

* though obviously in Mr Robson's case this involved booze (allegedly) rather than anything illegal.

Good album Signify - one of my faves
Steve Wilson - the main force behind PT is quite a prolific writer, also has stuff published under Blackfield, No Man and others.

Other Porcupine Tree Albums I recommend are:

In Absentia
Stupid Dream
Deadwing
Fear of a Black Planet

There's a few more I like as well but they are probably the most poplier

I'm seeing Weir in the same way I see my girlfriend. I've had a few over the years, but always bailed out when the going got tough. However, I've been seeing my current partner for two and a half years now. There have been good times and bad times, but we have stability and can plan for the future.

Saying that, my current girlfriend didn't cheat on me multiple times, rob me blind and crash my car in the first ten weeks of our relationship.
