I genuinely can't decide if you are being ironic. We should be happy because we nearly won at home to Crawley?
Surely that is ironic. Isn't it?
We're not in the Championship any more. We're a League 1 club now. 5 years ago, we'd have flattened Crawley. But it's not 5 years ago, is it. We've broken the losing streak against a side on form, scored for the first time in hours of gameplay, the first half was awful but the 2nd was much better, and you're all still bleating about us not winning. Maybe that's a sense of entitlement hungover from our Championship years, but realistically, Friday night was the first thing we had to shout about in a long time. I'm not saying that's a good thing, but Jesus Christ we actually managed to avoid defeat! It's an upward trajectory. Only slightly. Very slightly. But it's up.
Seriously if (and that's a big if) we collect points in our next 2 fixtures, watch all this "Weir Out" nonsense quietly disappear. Football fans are so achingly fickle. So you sack the manager, what then? You think someone else is gonna swoop in, wave a magic wand and make Lyle Taylor the new RVP and we win every game 5-0?
All signs before kick-off pointed to a heavy home defeat on Friday. I groaned along with everyone else when they conceded after 9 minutes. I never boo the team, but that reception was justified at half time, for sure. They improved in the 2nd half, kept their tails up and grabbed a point. Maybe I'm young and idealistic, but at least that's something good.
Don't get me wrong here. I've watched SUFC since the mid-90's, and this is far and away the worst side they have ever had in that time. So yes, a 1-1 draw at home to Crawley is a positive result at this stage in the club's history. Welcome to SUFC's doldrum years. Let's get settled in, 'cos we ain't going anywhere fast.
