We were great to watch earlier in the season, when our approach was more positive, full backs and even central defenders overlapped, most passes were forward and we got in plenty of attempts on goal.

We haven’t been great to watch very often recently. Too many sideways and backwards passes, no tempo, nobody prepared to run at the opposition, few attempts on goal and not enough goals or wins.

I also enjoy this gung ho style of play whatever the result and would hate it if we decided to be more conservative. After years of attending through loyalty, now can't wait for the next game and another front foot all out attacking performance. Keep going Blades our luck will change.

Tweak more than change. Whatever the reason, we're not executing the formation anything like as well. We're more hesitant than we have been since adopting it. It's one of those formations that requires 100% commitment and must be played at a certain pace. Being ponderous and cautious nullifies the threat.

Yes it’s frustrating losing in last minute. To a team with loads more money than us and then a £7million pound winger scores a great goal. It’s annoying.

But if we want that ability we have to spend big. WE DONT HAVE THE MONEY TO DO IT.

My concern is if our expectations out do realism in terms of finances CW will be thinking it’s time to jump ship.

He’s not going to take critiscm that we are losing to teams with mega bucks when he cannot compete financially.

We are getting closer on a budget.

Nearly - but not quite. For me anyway.
If you'd have written this pre-Christmas, maybe. But lately we've already changed the style of play from how we approached the few months of the season. We seem to have lost that killer instinct a little in favour of tippy-tippy sideways possession 30-35 yards from their goal & definitely in & around the box.
There were times on Tuesday when a quick, decisive ball opened up Villa's very organised & experienced defence. These were few & far between and we created little threat at the end of our 20 pass sequences.
Don't get me wrong, we're still an attractive side to watch. I'd just like to see the balance switch back to how it was Aug-Nov. Appreciate changes in key personnel will have had an impact & all being well Evans, Leonard, Wilson & Little-Ricky will give us that decisiveness back that will bring us the goals we need.

Agree, it’s not been as great a lately but we’re still good to watch. I’ve been to every single home march this season and it’s been really weird for me because i’ve enjoyed every match (win, draw or lose), maybe 6 years watching crap football in league 1 has made me easy to please.

The only match I haven’t enjoyed was last week at home to Preston NE. We were organised but lacked urgency. It brought back memories of many matches under Clough and Adkins when not much happened.

I’d say we do need to tweak our approach to games and I assume Wilder knows this, hence why he’s brought in 4 new players last week. Will be interested to see how we adopt new tactics/ formations over the next few weeks with the new players.

It’s worth saying that the first half at Norwich, not even two weeks ago, was as positive and attempts-creating as the early season displays.

It seems to pay off because we're always on TV. We're probably £500k better off this season by playing decent football.
Where most clubs fall down is the lack of continuity, they get new owners who chuck money in, want a new manager, get their pants pulled down, give up, new owners come in, change managers, get their pants pulled down etc. If we can keep hold of Wilder and keep building, and not lose patience or throw our toys out of the pram if we have to take a step back to take two forwards we'll be OK. Warnock got there in the end because we kept faith, no reason why Wilder can't do the same.

I think we've been too predictable of late. Earlier in the season we mixed it up more by going through the middle. Second half against Villa, going down the right hand side and over-playing it hoping for the perfect crossing opportunity seemed to be our only idea.

When things aren't working everyone wants to start over-adjusting tactically. It's a common reaction. What we need to be doing is tweaking things (hopefully the new players will provide that). The style and tactics in a broad sense are fine. We play good passing football, we press high up the pitch, pressure the opposition on the ball, and get bodies forward in the attack. We don't need to change any of that. What we need to do is the same, but better. No new formations. No new systems. No wholesale changes. Just allow the new lads to get comfortable in the side and look to improve again in the Summer (wherever we finish in the league).

This is our first season up here and we're on a tight budget. It's going to take time.

Very interesting times right now, with the tweaking of the style/system currently in progress, what with Ryan Leonard's running off the ball & energy, with Wilson's subtlety, with Holmes's (hopefully) magic, & with Lee Evans's seeming Coutts-like quality on the ball.

Maybe we've got our own equivalents of Snodgrass just come through the door (& on much less money)?

I suppose only time will tell, but early signs are pretty encouraging.

Its sad to hear some fellow Blades slagging of the team on other posts.
I have watched United for many years through bad times, terrible times, disastrous times and Brian Robson times . I can say this past season and a half have been fantastic. The Blades have got their mojo back and are heading in the right direction. Who would have thought that after the Weir tenancy we would be 7th in the championship in a little over 18 months. I bet all of us would have snapped someones arm off if they had offered us that position back then.
We may not get promotion this season but you can bet your bottom dollar Chris Wilder and this team will keep going right to the end. I hope they dont change the way we play ,at times its frustrating but at other times its bloody good. Thats why we are on Sky so much and thats why our little piggy friends would give their back trotters to be in the position we are in. UTB.
