Does being top of the league......

Might just be selective memory but I can’t really think of many January signings that have given sides that extra boost over the line....

Can anyone point any out?

Certainly our January business the last time we were chasing promotion to the prem with warnock was complete shite and mostly a waste of money.

That said I’m sure we could add a young player with some pace and we would be more likely to get those sitting near the top of the league.

'January signings that have given sides that extra boost over the line....'

Try January 1971. Ford, Hope, Hockey all signed on the same date. The latter two, in particular Trevor were extremely influential in us gaining promotion and subsequently being top in the top division by October the following year.

Think Wilder can give us a repeat?

Of course this is before January had the words 'transfer window' added to it.

Yeah perhaps you're right, but i'd also be surprised if upon promotion we didn't give pay rises to the current players to around 20k - 25k a week and make some bigger signings on around 40k. That's not a million miles from 50k.

I'm not bothered how much we spend, but i want to feel like we're getting value. You'd struggle to find two more hard working strikers in the prem than those two so they'd fit in well. Not expecting them to come in by any means, i'm just making the point that if we do sign proven Prem quality it'll probably be players in that mould.
I agree with Okazaki, but deeney seems to have dropped his high standards the past season. Not sure if it's just his age, but he's not as sharp or energetic as he once was.

Talking of strikers do we think Hanson will get a chance this season or is he done now for us?

I think Hanson probably isn't going to get a game. But taking bits and bobs from players interviews and wilders interviews I think he has an important role to play with the young uns like brooksy. He has tons of experience which will help the younget lads become better players. I do think hans could get one or two goals if we played him, but that's probably against teams like Preston and Bolton when you need a big ard guy to nut them in who doesn't mind lumps being kicked out of them.

At the moment, all I care about is keeping who we have, all of whom are doing fine, thank you very much. If we are still top of the league at the end of the year, I'd not try to fix what clearly is not broken. I might bring Whiteman home and get Hanson out on lone. No, on second thought, I'd keep Hanson close to hand. Steady as she goes ...

In short.. yes. A manager would rather loan a player to a team that is winning and used to winning, gives the player the right mentality
