On Praise and Grumble a Wednesday supporter has just pointed out that United had 5 loanees on the pitch last night: Bunn, Walker, Davies, Treacey and Harper.

How many are you allowed on the pitch at any one time? The show seemed to think only 4 were allowed.

On the Football Manager computer game - which obviously gets the rules for the league correct - you can sign four long term loans and eight short term loans in a season and can play up to five of them at a time.

If that's the case, we had Bunn, Walker, Davies, Treacy and (maybe) Harper.

Says Harper is loan wherever I look.

Edit: and on the SUFC website... which is pretty conclusive I should think.

Not that I am doubting you but the official site has also listed Paddy Kenny as being 5' 12" and had Kabba as 3 different numbers in the same season. So it's not like they strive for perfection.

I started a post similar to this last week, because I was worried about the amount of loan signings. I haven't found anything conclusive, but it appears that you can name 5 in the team. It did use to be 4, but its since changed.

Harper IS on loan!

Bunn, Walker, Davies, Treacy, Harper are all on loan.

I originally thought it was 4, but more research suggests its 5.

Extract from football league rules confirming it is 5 players - & that upto 4 can be signed from any one club in a season:

47.3 There shall be two categories of temporary loan transfers allowed - Short Term Loans and Long Term Loans. The following restrictions shall apply to both types of loan:
47.3.1 A maximum of 5 loan Players (either Short Term or Long Term) can be named in thesi xteen Players listed on a team sheet for any individual Match. This figure shall
include any additional loan of a goalkeeper approved by the Executive under the
provisions of Regulation 49.
47.3.2 No more than 4 loan Players (either Short Term or Long Term) may join one Club
from another Club in any Season.

Whats the situation regarding Jordan Stewart, the O/S states it was part of a swap deal with Hendrie going to Derby, given that Hendrie is "on loan" til then end of the season does that mean Stewart is on loan or has he signed for us fully?

Official Site says both Hendrie and Stewart terminated their contracts with Unitede and Derby respectively to enable the deal to go through. So, if not contracted to another club I would presume Stewart can't be on loan. I hope so anyway!!

Cheers Oldblade, fingers crossed certainly dont need anything like that coming back and biting us on the ass.

I would suspect it will be Treacy or Harper who will have to make way for any loan striker to make up the five

Given that he isn't using Ward as an out and out striker anyway, one option is to simply put Cotterill in the side.

Re Deano's post quoting numbers that says 5 players out of the sixteen can be loaness. I presume that is last season because with the new 7 subs rule we can, though rarely do, have a match day squad of 18. Does this mean we can still have 5 loanees or has it increased pro rata.
