I keep hearing in the media (most recently from Kieran Maguire on the Price of Football) that "even Sheffield United fans want Wednesday to survive".

I don't. I want them to fail to get a buyer, go into liquidation and playing in a park somewhere as a phoenix club. I want them gone.

If their fans were sensible and acted differently, I may feel more empathetic towards them.

Even now in this current situation they feel they have this god-given right to be taken over by the richest of the rich to put them "back where they belong".

If they did go bust, it's about time as they have been ran like this for years and years. Obviously owners have a lot to do with it, but their fans are equally as accountable for letting it go on so long, and then happen again and again

It's a toughy but overall I prefer them to be the absolute whipping boys of whatever league we're in, giving us 6 points time after time. Sure occasionally let them go down to League One or even League Two briefly as it'd be piss funny, but more than anything I want to see around 10 "massacres" over them in the future, which can't happen if they go to total ruin. There's no finer feeling than lording it over them in their own backyard and Id hate to lose that.

But you gain the satisfaction of them being in total ruin!

If i was asked by Kieran Maguire, i'd tell him i want them out of business and to be gone forever. But in reality, its far more fun to forever have them on the edge of extinction but never liquidated. Just suffering on the verge.

I do also like it when they get too cocky, then humbled when we beat them. I liked it when we came up and humbled them after years in League one.

I'd happily see them in the National League taking 300 away to Tamworth, getting the national league selt aart every week.

What i never ever want is for there to be a merged Sheffield City club. That just disgusts me. I'd see them liquidated before that happens

Thanks mate, totally agree, which is why I voted NO…

I think if the disappeared for ever, there would always be the "remember how amazing this other Sheffield side used to be". Even from people who currently couldn't care less about Sheffield football. They would almost become martyrs of the football league.

I would much rather see them playing in National league with a tiny ground knowing that it isn't going to get any better. They become completely forgettable.

I don't live in Sheffield though so I don't actually have to interact with the fans much...

One big factor in my "YES" is that kids aren't going to want to support a phoenix club if there's Championship (or dare I say Premier League again, eventually) football available to watch in the same city, so all the sadsacks on Porktalk would end up watching their grandkids grow up as United fans

Hate them, hate the derby, hate the love in over some limited success in the 80s/90s... can't in good conscience hope they go out of business with people losing their jobs, friends losing something they love and lots of older people losing something that's incredibly important to them.

End up in the national league due to a series of points deductions and being terribly shit, that works for me.

This is the rational, sober, measured response.

I can't be rational. I want them gone.

Only the closet pigs on here will vote no.

Hate them, hate their fans. Even their fans who I am mates with I hate when it comes to their football views. Get them out of business and in the fucking bin, playing Park Steels in their next big local derby. Fuck them, let us rise to be the one club on the city. They can be our Notts County in a few seasons and even that is me being generous.

I voted yes, but a part of me does worry, deep-down, that without them we might become one of those weird teams with no proper rival that just wobble around like angry toddlers trying to kick off with anyone and everyone.

The perfect example being Coventry - the weirdest fanbase in world football.

Years ago in the pub the chat was about what you'd do if you won the lottery, someone said i bet I'd buy the blades, no, I said I buy the pigs and put em out of business, I followed it up by saying, I have a heart and we all have mates etc who support Wed so I'd immediately flatten the ground and build Tesco store on it, why? I was asked , so in a remembrance to the club everybody walking out would have a plastic Tesco bag that had blue and white stripes on it.
Alas I never won the lottery.
