DO YOU LOVE FREE TRANSFERS ?

Good.

We need to sign a few on free transfers, because we need a lot of new players. And I don't know about anyone else, but I get the impression we won't be throwing millions at it.

It's not only bad players who move on free transfers.

Let's face it we are now a firmly established third division club with no pot to piss in.

Expect us to flog Sharp Adams and retain cunts that have consistently failed - if that midfield lines up next season we could go down. Free signings will be the latest brain wave but unlike when Bassett or Warnock wheeled and dealed we will sign useless bastards on there way down the football pyramid.

Still at least they are having fans forums and the pitch is nice

Freebies are fine particularly at this level but let's just hope it's not the only signings!

Wage bill should be drastically reduced with those out of contract and Sammon heading back

If they turn out to be good players I don't mind a freebie. :)
I reckon we could build a pretty good side from free transfers. I'll start with

Stuart Mcall - released by Bradford in the league below. "His legs had gone", apparently.

Paul McGrath - without doubt the best defender I've seen at the lane, just a pity it was only for 3 months.

Different gravy mate, different gravy!

Think theyve both retired now mate

Well we definitely aren't going to build a great fantasy team out of current blades free transfers are we? ;-)

Del Geary at right back?

I don't see the problem, you can land some decent players on a free transfer.

Jack Payne at Southend is struggling to agree a new deal with them and will be available on free transfer by the looks of things. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/35989692

It is possible to land a decent player on a free transfer and we have done it before. K Mac one of the more recent ones.

A pitty James Wallace has not been able to find fitness as he would have been a decent player for us as well.

I think this is where it could work for us. There must be decent players who ordinarily might cost lets say £250'000 who are nearing the end of their contracts. Perhaps if we offer them a decent package (by the standards of what they are already on anyway) then we could be in with a chance?

Stuart McCall
Chief Wayne Allison
Paul McGrath
Neil Shipperly
Keith Gillespie
Kevin McDonald
Lescinois Jean Francois
Alan Quinn
Leigh Bromby
Sun Jihai
Chris Morgan
Ugo Ehiogu
Henri Camara
Chris Basham

Plenty of decent freebies to be had if you look in the right places.

Just look at Bristol in the summer of 2014. Ayling, Wilbraham, Litte, Elliot all brought in on free transfers and all played a big part in getting them up.

MK Dons brought in Baker, Spence, Hitchcock, Green etc. to help them get up. All free transfers.

When Charlton went up they brought in Hollands, Pritchard, Evina, Hayes, Alonso, Taylor, Sullivan, Hughes, Euell, Kermogant, and Cort all on free transfers.

With a combination of appropriate free transfers, season long loans and permanent signings, we could very easily assemble a squad better equipped to escape from our self-imposed exile in this agricultural Division.

I reckon we need to cull around another 13 / 15 senior pros and bring in around 8 / 10 more consistent performers at this level. We don't need to spend millions to do that and should still be able to keep salaries under control as a lot of higher earners will be ( hopefully ) culled.

Failing that ....... we could do it on the cheap, try to make do with what we've got ( not as if we've tried that before is it ? ) and spend another bloody year in League 1 !!

JCR was a free too, whilst not an unqualified success I think he definitely did enough for us

Is this guy available on a free?

(Whether it's freebie territory or having to pay a fee though, get the fucker signed up while the window of opportunity exists! Just think: a midfielder who actually scores goals!)
