>Someone connected to our club must have run over about 45 black cats or somat!
bulldozed a cattery with a Panzer division of Tiger tanks more like :D

Of course - thanks. Back in the day when it was a playoff between divisions wasn't it ?

It does feel like someone is saying "thou shall not pass" anytime we get close to success.

Also as soon as I heard the guilty verdict of Evans my instant thought was "Here we go again".

It will also be followed up by a pigs promotion party and Washing Machine being cleared of all charges.

I urge everyone to stop feeling so sorry for themselves, it's all in the past. Whatever happened to looking to the future. In the immortal words of Slade, 'It's only just begun'. I reckon a draw at Stevenage and a win at home will see us reach the PO Final. Huddersfield and MK Dons will have a few fisticuffs in their semi final matches and whoever gets through will probably be depleted, if not, we actually do have enough to do it on the day.

"If nothing else works, a total pig-headed unwillingness to look facts in the face will see us through." :)

An slim away defeat coupled with a nice home win will see through.

Wembley well if we do get there, who knows.

There's no such thing as luck.

We lost all those matches because we were shit on the day and din't get the job done.

It's like people on here keep saying - the only constant at Sheffield United Football Club over the past 20 years is the pessimistic, doom mongering fans. We should win some kind of award for having the fans with the tiniest bollocks.

Take the current situation at hand, Wednesday are going into the final game of the season one point in front with everything in their control. All I've seen so far this week from their fans is unwavering confidence and excitement. In their heads the match is already won.

Contrast that with what our fans would be like if the situation was reversed. This place would be full of threads about how we're going to fuck it up and this that and the other.

Are you suggesting a Wednesday testicle is a greater testicle than a United one?

I think I am.

But I have a feeling Unitedites have a better calibre of cock though.

The genitalia of a Wednesdayite is like a cocktail sausage perched atop two space hoppers.

The genitalia of a Blade is like a baguette with two Maltesers nestled underneath.

No, Segers wasn't convicted, he was acquitted of match fixing in 1994 along with Grobelaar and Fashanu.

I agree that we seem to have more than our fair share of bad look. As Oldblade and I have pointed out, 1984 is the only occasion when an unlikely set of results worked in our favour. In 1981, 1994 and 2007 the opposite happened. We have also been in 5 play offs and lost them all (when the law of averages would suggest we would have won at least 1). Add the fact that we have not won anything since 1925 or been runners up in anything since 1936 (and 49 other clubs have been winners or runners up in a major trophy since 1936) and I think we have a strong case that United fans have suffered more than most other clubs' fans over the past few decades....

You say 49 clubs have been winners or runners up in major trophies since the war. If you only count winners, what is the figure? Does it fall significantly? Because I feel you may as well get knocked out in the semi final as lose a final or be runner up in the league. I doubt that Wednesday supporters feel any better about reaching 2 finals in 1993 and losing them both. It made me feel a lot better though!!

These are the teams who have been runners up but not won anything since 1936:

Cardiff (2008 FA Cup and 2012 League Cup)
Wigan Athletic (2006 League Cup)
Millwall (2004 FA Cup)
Tranmere Rovers (2000 League Cup)
Crystal Palace (1990 FA Cup)
Oldham Athletic (1990 League Cup)
Watford (1984 FA Cup)
Brighton and Hove Albion (1983 FA Cup)
Fulham (1975 FA Cup)
Rochdale (1962 League Cup)
Rotherham United (1961 League Cup)
Huddersfield Town (1938 FA Cup)

So that knocks 12 off.

Is Darren including the first division (premier league) title. If so, there's also Charlton - league runners up in 1937 and Preston - league runners up in 1953.

Both those teams are on the "winners" list, having both won the FA Cup since 1936.

That would explain them not being on your list then!:)

Im amazed some people are saying no. Its quite clear this club is cursed. Its made me wonder whether I want to bother anymore fighting against god knows how many gods. Its a damn joke.

The measure of how conditioned I am to this sort of thing is that by around 12 noon Sunday, I was back to my normal self.

Contrast this with the 4 or 5 day depression that set in after relegation in '94 or the PO final in '97

we can win at wembley this time round because for the first time we'll actually be taking a proper football team that will be at an advantage on the massive pitch.. and from wikipedia (yeah i know)

Preston North End have appeared in the Play Offs across all three divisions of the Football League the most times since their inception, and also have the worst record having not been promoted via the method in 8 appearances

Reading, Preston North End, Bristol City, Sheffield United and Leeds United have the unenviable record of losing 3 play off finals each. None of these teams have ever won promotion via the play offs despite a combined 27 appearances.
Nottingham Forest have had four play off appearances and have never gotten beyond the semi finals

it isn't just us

Wait...

...so we have an opportunity to take sole ownership of the "most lost finals" record this year???

<head in hands>

Lincoln City appeared in the play offs in 5 consecutive seasons between 2002-3 season and 2006-7 season (reached the final twice) but never managed to get promoted.

So we will get another record to go with the most points and not promoted 4 finals and no wins
