What have we got?

Long
*******

Brayford, Hussey.

********

Basham, Whiteman, Reed, Duffy,

********

Sharp, Done, Adams, McNulty, Lewin.

**********

On the transfer list as yet:

Defence: K.Wallace, Freeman.

Midfield: Coutts, J.Wallace, Hammond and Woolford

Striker: Diego.

***********

Wilder has stated that 3 central defenders are his priority, quite right, look above!! plus full back cover IMO!

Then midfield, only one? More I'd say, but fact is those on the list have to make some space I suppose.

Striker: Big lad option, agree. Plus a quick lad I'd say.

Do we need to pay a fee or spend it on wages?

We need new players that is obvious but do we need to pay big fees? Maybe the odd nominal like Hussey but no more.

I like the idea of signing loan players who have a year to go on their contract in higher leagues and just happen not to fit in there at this time. I also like the idea of signing Premier League lads who are bloody good, but not good enough to ever play for their parent clubs and then happy to join us because they now know our manager and they've enjoyed a promotion season with us all, you and me included.( we can be really happy when we get the chance!!):p:)

Spend it on wages for all bar a couple of signings. Wilder knows all that, he's been just below this level for years and he knows what's what. For him it's not just theory like you and me, he's been there for years, made mistakes and learned no end.

Then again if we get a serious offer for one of our strikers ( where we have much of a much-ness actually) then we will get a fee. Maybe we'll get a fee for Brayford, probably not though unless Clough has a budget. I'd sell Adams for £1.5m tomorrow. I'd sell Done for £500k. McNulty for £250k. We all have opinions and they are mine, rightly or wrongly, I think Wilder needs pace and height up front and Lewin is not quite ready for a serious promotion season, maybe 4 months away, maybe more.

If any strikers go then we will need to pay a fee for a suitable replacement but no matter what, it all has to pan out and cannot be rushed, regardless of anything the doom-mongers are saying already. If Wilder is with us for 10 years then a few days in June 2016 are not that critical. Keep the faith in our new manager and back him come hell or high water.

Wilder has stated that we're in the market for 3 centre-backs, a left-footed central midfielder and a target man. I wouldn't be surprised if we bring in one more winger as well, but I wouldn't expect to see much else. Cover will come from the academy - Graham Kelly at full-back, for example.

I do think at least a couple of those transfers will need to involve a fee in order to get the quality needed to challenge for promotion, but I think we'll also see one or two astute loan signings.

We will do once we allow all the good free agents to be snapped up.

Yes, we need to pay transfer fees for a couple. No going mad, just for 2 or 3 of the 5 players being targetted. No crazy fees either.

We've not become a totally lifeless corpse yet. Chris Wilder's here to revive us, not just maintain the life support machine.

KEEP CALM AND BACK THE BLADES & WILDER'S ACUMEN. It is a 7 for 7 situation. Here's why :

this is the state of our 24 man squad (including , for the moment , the 7 transfer-listed rejects) :

4 starters - Billy Beard Duffy Hussey (4). So need first choice GK CB CB MF MF WING TARGET-MAN (7).

Good enough for matchday squad - Long Bash Whiteman Done Che Reed Scougs DCL McNuts (9).

Have never played for first team so not really in matchday squad - Ramsdale Brookes Kelly Semple (4).

That's 17 ....only seventeen acceptable players !
Plus the 7 rejects , makes 24.
So we need the 7 newbies TO START IN THE FIRST ELEVEN.
And each one of the 7 newbies must replace a reject , even if the reject has to be "paid-off" , by 6 August.

For every one of the 7 newbies that does NOT come , CW will have to include one of his 7 REJECTS in the 24.

That's Hammond , Woolford , Coutts , K.Wallace , J.Wallace , Freeman , DeGirolamo.

If that doesn't fill him (and me) with dread , nothing will. He doesn't want ANY of the rejects around on 6 August.

CW isn't stupid - he can't expect a performance befitting his "fast-running Blades" from players he's rejected.

There is huge pressure to get the 7 rejects out and 7 FIRST-TEAM newbies in. And I believe it will happen.
The newbies have to be high quality - high enough to be in the starting 11.
I hope to goodness we have learned from the stupid antics of previous managers who signed "squad" players.
In our position , "squad" players are not worth signing.
We already have too many "squad" players.
The target-man has to be of "starting 11" quality , even if he doesn't start all the games , he will start the ones for which CW judges him to be useful - and he will come on as a sub in other games when a change of tactics is thought by CW to be necessary.
So don't panic about missing older target men who are on the way down.
Out of the 7 incomers , the priorities are CB CB MF MF WING TARGET-MAN GK.
If CW doesn't get a goalie , he'll play Long and put Ramsdale on the bench.
If he doesn't get a target-man , he'll put one of our multitude of strikers through a hot rolling-mill.
The CB CB MF MF WING (5) are much more important.

We know the rejects will be hard to shift. What the Board will ultimately have to do , is allow CW to recruit on the basis that the salaries of the rejects are NOT going to be on the books after 6 August.

I know McCabe is a clown , but ask yourself , is he really going to allow a cunt like Hammond or Woolford to tie the hands of his beloved CW ? I don't think so - he usually has more money than sense , but I have never previously heard him openly castigate greedy useless players. I think McCabe's dying to tell most of those 7 rejects to do one , even if it costs him a bit to pay them off.

With the Adkins/Clough wages policy , the 7 rejects are sitting on a big enough slice of the wage budget to fund high quality first team signings - as long as the Board dig deep for any transfer fees required.

We need more than 5 new players maybe. Let's hope so for the new manager's sake, otherwise all those on the list will still be here AND BEING ALLOWED TO RESTRICT THE MANAGER'S DEALINGS.

I hope a red line has been drawn which accepts that past mistakes, even still on contract, do not impede our future.

That's how GAME CHANGING INVESTMENT comes into play. Pay them off and write it off ( apart from Freeman and K.Wallace). Ruthless? Dead right!!

Give the new manager a chance ( and no excuses).

I'd like to see us bring in a quick winger, (somone that's an outlet) along with centre backs and a quality centre midfielder. I'd be happy to sacrifice Done and McNulty if Wilder is definitely bringing in a target man and finance the other positions.

The club should feel the responsibility to make sure some of these players don't significantly hold us back going into next season. It's their fault they're on contracts that make them unmovable, it's their stupid mistakes that have got us into this ridiculous situation, it's about time we stopped allowing a few no mark players to dictate our future so much as a result of the club's incompetence. It's the least the club owe the fans.

Take what you can for them, but do all it takes to clear them out before it's too late. Be realistic - some contracts will have to be paid up, almost in full. If we don't, we'll only have to pay them anyway over the course of the season.

I once heard Kevin Blackwell describe transfer policy as follows:

If you're Chelsea, Man Utd or Real Madrid and you need a left back, you identify your No. 1 target, get the chequebook out and pay whatever it takes to sign that player.

However, if your Sheffield United you identify 5 left backs that could all do a job. You rank them 1 to 5 and then start negotiating at the top of the list, work your way down, and you end up with whichever left back out of the 5 will come.

For the last 3 years we have been using the Chelsea, Man Utd, Real Madrid model and not been promoted; whereas now we have reverted back to any one from 5

This approach obviously takes longer as you have to negotiate with far more players, so we must just be patient, and see what happens.

Game changing investment?

Is that like the overseas marketing opportunities post we created and had filled which appeared out of fucking nowhere and yet was announced?

People on here were like 'why don't you ask McCabe about it yourself?' Or even engage with a former European football thug about his role. It was all 'trust Phipps/The Saudi/McCabe', yet the sum total of his appointment or efforts is ... what? We don't even know if he is still employed in the role, how much it cost to employ him, what his expenses were or what his net return was.

Face it, the GCI scam (and it was that, even I was drawn in) was simply a fucking smokescreen and a way of making some poor overseas schmuck part with his cash to prop up a failing club. Once the Prince realised his ten mil had effectively been shat down the pan on shit signings, paying off daft appointments and a unneeded new playing surface he was goneski (whilst retaining his 50%, mind)

pommpey

I thought Wilder was going to hoover up all the young talent from below... or am I thinking of someone else :o ?

We could sell Adams, Done, Long, Brayford and struggle to get £1,000,000.

Perhaps Wilder should give Billy McEwan a call and ask him how he managed United back in the days before Bassett came along.

You might want to think about where we would be without the investment we have had
You're making me chuckle, you're putting fires out on every thread.
You've genuinely made me feel daft about some of my moaning and pessimism but as a whole we are a very fickle lot.
Charlton have had a good couple of days, there's no denying that but 1 or two more quality signings and even the most cynical of us will start to relax and look forward to the season.

Are you talking about the managers who signed the players or the club that coughed up the money Ricky?
