Why is it that we always seem to get in the press for bad stuff? See this Marlon King article:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-27423636

For gods sake, the bloke only played for us for 2 minutes!!!

Also, why do we end up with all these petitions about Ched going on - and if we do re sign him, I can't imagine the bad press we will get - don't seem to remember much of this with any other footballers that have been in trouble joining other clubs. I'm sure the press have it in for us at times.

Or am I just being over sensitive!!! ;)

Oh no, its just part of human nature. 'We' think that Radio Sheffield is biased against us, no doubt Wednesday think its biased against them.
Labour think the BBC hates them, the Tories think the same thing.

Its just like a 6 year old girl stamping her foot saying 'its so unfair' because her Mum won't buy her something.

Press is only really about 'bad stuff' isn't it?

after all "no news is good news"

Because we have a petition of 3 thousand fans demanding we sign a convicted rapist?

Thats wierd - when it first went on it said "Ex Sheffield United striker..." now it says

"Ex-Watford and Wigan striker Marlon King was driving a Porsche on the A46 near Newark in Nottinghamshire when the crash happened in April last year."

Maybe theres a Blade in the press office after all! He He

You may have a point there Blader - but not sure which petition came first - the anti or the pro - haven't really taken that much notice having not been interested in signing either.

The 'dont re-sign evans' definitely came first.

We've never been like by the Media really, not in my lifetime. The Warnock days were particularly poor for our PR department! However, I do actually feel the tides are turning, particularly this season. We're playing good football, with a good FA Cup run and a manager who is liked throughout the game. I actually think we've clawed our way up to 'media neutrals' this season. Not quite the 'media darlings' yet though, that's still reserved for Man U, Liverpool, West Ham and every other London club!

Definitely being over sensitive mate.

If we weren't mentioned, there'd be no doubt some complaining that we were ignored!

Must be just me then - well I am a girl aren't I? **blames hormones**

Better go home and cry over a glass of Blue Nun while simultaneously eating chocolate and cake and watching "one born every minute" or summat...

Or I could just go to the pub :):p! xx

Well 'the media' for the most part is london based so there is obviously a large bias towards the capital and a general distaste/distrust of anything north of Watford...'Look Leeds' based in Leeds, say no more...I don't think there's a particular bias against the Blades as a club apart one loud, fat voice of whom we're all aware...

I do find the film /TV references amusing though...does seem like any character who supports football in a 'Sheffield' film is a Blade!

Probably the only exception was 'The Navigators' by Jen Loach, which seemed to have the workforce fairly split from memory...

.

It would be great if we could devote a large part of this forum over the next 12 months to looking at the detail of the King case. I'm not a legal expert, and I haven't seen all the evidence, but it seems odd that someone like Marlon eats ice-cream when driving and is jailed, yet when Alan Partridge eats a load of toblerone bars at the wheel of a car he doesn't get placed in fictional prison.

Justice for Marlon.

Sheffield United re-sign Ched Evans and we'll be a cross between Hannibal Lector and Satan.
Any other club sign Ched Evans and it will be a charitable jesture to try to help a convicted criminal back on his feet.

What you have to remember is that most of the football press in the nationals are West Ham supporters, so that says it all

fuck the press/media whatever you call it nowadays, hope we give the Welsh fella a way back into footy.

But Radio Sheffield are, on an objective view, heavily biased towards the Pigs. You don't have to listen to their sports output for long to realise that. They do far more, and longer, features and interviews on the pigs. Have done for years.

djbaldken did a bit of empirical research a while back and the findings were very instructive.

No, we just keep doing crazy things. Only a pillock would have signed Marlon King.
Same goes for signing Ched Evans back. I hope we don't go down that path.

Really? We seemed to get more of the coverage during the Warnock years, when I listened more. The level of coverage in my view has tended to swing towards the club where there's more to talk about. Under Warnock, that was us. Under Wilson last season, it was obviously them. When we were getting relegated, it again was us. Last year, overall it was us too from what I listened to. More was perhaps given to the Jones sacking than Weir's (though in fairness a lot of that was due to the mishandling of the replacement process in contrast to our smooth handling of Clough's appointment) but there was a lot of preferential coverage given to us through the cup run.

We get a lot of decent coverage from Radio Sheffield, and as an exile I rely a lot on it, even more now. People like Walker & Giddings will regularly ask questions requested of them via twitter when interviewing Clough, and their trend in the last season or two of having the full interviews available to stream ahead of broadcast on radio is excellent.

I think giggs will be assistant to van gaal next season,i don't think we will be able to talk him round to be honest:D

I think you will find its not 3,000 fans demanding we sign a convicted rapist, but it is 3,000 fans demanding they want a proven striker at this level.
I couldn't give two flying fucks whether we sign him or not, or whether the press likes us or not, what i do want though is someone of cheds pedigree at the start of the season ,not in november or december.

So the title of the petition should say 'petition to sign a proven goal scorer at League 1, Sheffield United' then.

Otherwise it's just misleading.

it will vary in areas , to add local interest , buy a southern version itll be different,

Anti, the pro was in response to it. Anti, by the way as many more signatures, I believe.
