Do other fans have a soft spot for us?

I think we've been missing from "mainstream" football for so long now that most people have forgotten all about us! I think the last time I heard glowing praise from neutrals for a Sheffield United side was back in the Woody/Currie era. I remember when we got promoted from Division 2 to Division 1 the BBC sports presenters on radio saying they liked this Sheffield United side - they liked the refreshing brand of attacking football we played and the skilful players in the team, like Woodward, Currie, Reece and Scullion. (There were many others of course but I remember them picking these ones out). They said we would be a welcome addition to the First Division.

The way we are playing our football at the moment is also starting to bring appreciative noises from most opposition fans in this league. I don't think I've ever seen such a positive set of comments on Roy's blogs as we are seeing this season. That's a good sign that we are impressing others - not that it really matters of course - but it's always nice to read about it. I'm looking forward to more glowing praise from dejected Walsall fans later this evening!

I haven't lived in Sheffield for over 20 years and my work brings me into scores of people every week and the subject of football nearly always becomes a talking point. My experiences are most football fans don't know very much about any other club other than their own and sometimes that is very little.

Came across a huge Evertonian last week who I've met about four times in recent years. I mentioned DCL to him and he'd no idea who I was talking about. 'It's hard enough keeping up with the first team players.'
This lack of knowledge is particularly true of the Premier league club supporters.

There are others who I can talk to (or listen to) who are quite happy to speak endlessly about their club and yet never have the decency to ask who I support.

I find there are posters on here who have more knowledge of other clubs than the ones who actually support them.

I don't think we are on other supporters personal radar when it comes to what they think of us.

By the same token apart from Jagielka, Barkley and Lukaku I don't have the foggiest about any Everton players. My fantasy premier league score this year reflects that I know SFA about the upper echelons of football.

The last few seasons I focus on the 4 or 5 teams around us and that's it. I used to pride myself on knowing who was doing what in most leagues around Europe and also who had signed who, I'd know most of what was going in in the 4 divisions of England. Kids have scrambled my brain from a football perspective. Not surprising that no one knows who we are anymore!
