Sheffield United are being probed for allegedly breaking the same transfer rule as West Ham, it was reported last night.

United are battling to get West Ham thrown out of the Premiership for their involvement in the Carlos Tevez affair but now the Blades are under investigation into one of their own dealings.

The Premier League have demanded to know why the Yorkshire club stopped one of their former players, Steve Kabba, playing against them after he had gone to join Watford - which may amount to third party interference.

Is it just me, or has this not been happening for years, amongst a number of clubs.

Also, aren't Watford therefore the ones breaking the rules, not us? As they are entering into a contract with 3rd party influence, we would be the influence.

U18 =

“No club shall enter into a contract which enables any other party to that contract to acquire the ability materially to influence its policies or the performance of its teams in league matches or in any (other) competitions.”

We aren't a party to a contract, the only parties are Steve Kabba and Watford. Unless we had a seperate contractual agreement with Watford, stating he couldn't play.

Even if this was the case, I don't see them punishing Kia?

Update: "Ex-Sheffield United striker Steve Kabba is ruled out of the game - it was a feature in his contract when he signed for the 'Orns in the January transfer window."

His contract, not ours ;)

This has gone on for years.

How many other clubs have done the same?

If they now deem it against the rules so be it.

3 points off per player per game.

Same for every team though.

Why couldn't Ben Foster and Tim Howard play against Man U this season? Because Man U wouldn't let them. So let's investigate Man U as well please.

Well that one was mentioned weeks ago, but nothing went on there.

You know they want to get us on something :)

Give them enough time and a little rope and they will find something however trivial and or insignificant.

How dare a minnow stand up to the Premier League, Just who do we think we are ????? :p

Don't many clubs put a clause in the contract saying they can't play against the original club?

I find it quite humourus (SP) to be honest.

This has gone on for years as far as I am concerned. But even if it was the case, the case would be against Watford.

This is just another example of the ineptitude of the premier league as a regulatory body.

The fact that Kabba could not play due to a clause in his contract was reported on a national level before the game and so any repercussions should have been dealt with before, or at the least just after , the game took place.

Why does it take a scatty piece of journalism from a sensationalist reporter to bring these things to the attention of the people who are supposed enforce the rules?

I can't wait for this arbitration to be over so we can all move on.

 I had a feeling that when I came on here I would find these types of comments.

Strange that when West Ham have a third party agreement that didn't influence the clubs ability to play who they want when they want that they labelled as cheating scum, vilified in the press constantly, and alledged to only be 'getting away with it' because they are a London team.

Yet when something similar happens involving the so called bastian of fairness and morality in football, aka Sheffield United, then it must be someone spreading lies, or intentionally setting out to get the 'little northern team'.

Fairness in Football? Only when it suits you.

hmmm sounds like panic setting in from west ham to me.

Magnusson has barely said a word throughout this whole saga, unlike certain other chairman. My guess is if West Ham were panicking they wouldn't be trying to buy players for in excess of £15m.

I agree with all of that jodman. Completely inept. Only the FA are worse.

As I've said before and will say again, we didn't enter into a contract where there was a third party influence over one of our players, Watford did.

So by the rules, they are in the wrong. The act of having influence isn't against the regulations, or else old Kia would be in the dock.

I think you will find my friend that there were no references to WHU only the premier league!

I honestly hope the whole saga is finshed and done with today, and we can get back to normal business of supporting our teams.

My point was that we are a small club and we are expected to roll over and go away. Whether right or wrong we should shut up stand in a corner and be quiet.

My point is based on.

Not being over in the UK I only have what I read and manage to catch up on TV. It is difficult to fully appreciate the full extent of the feeling over there but I do try to keep up with the help of this forum and Sky sports etc.

What I do get is a wide spectrum of opinions from a very wide variety of fans from the UK and a majority are on our side. Not really for the right or wrong of the issue but mainly the we are a small team/club having the audacity to stand up for what it feels is right.

We all have an opinion and it would be a boring world if they were all the same wouldn't it ???? ;)

But it'd be ever so much easier for internet forum admins everywhere if it was :D

You wouldn't have so much fun would you, traulling through the same sh***e all the time. Oh sorry reffering to the Tevez situation again.

To the tune of Popeye the Sailor Man...

"He's Samuel the p****d up hack
He's famous for writing cack
He'll drink all your Moet
Demolish a Buffet
He's Samuel the p****d up hack!!"

Thought it was worth posting. :)

Kia can't be in the dock because he hasn't signed up to the PL rules (yes the same rules the PL itself doesn't seem to understand).

You're probably right that Watford and not Sheff Utd would be the likely ones punished for the Kabba affair (fuck it, I'm coining that phrase now!), under that U18 rule, but then Sheff Utd could easily be accused of not acting in good faith (rule B31 or something, which earned West Ham £2.5m of their fine).

Of course, there was the Howard affair, where ol' Timmy Tourette wasn't allowed to play for Everton against Manure, but then they didn't confess on their websites, so I'm not sure where they stand on that one.

Hows that? West Ham were fined for lying and decieving, the Blades made the transfer and its details public, the PL actioned it and even both official sites even mentioned it. Its not like it was hidden away like the Tevez details :)

Smacks of panic and an attempt to make us look bad imo :)

afternoon sendo

Of course, there was the Howard affair, where ol' Timmy Tourette wasn't allowed to play for Everton against Manure, but then they didn't confess on their websites, so I'm not sure where they stand on that one.

this issue was looked into byt he Prem and, as with us, it was determined that a "Gentlemans agreement" was reached. The prem were satisfied with this, and therefore took no further action.

So regardless of who should be deemed as "being in the wrong" they have set them selves a precident (and once again shot themselves in the knackers)

Aside from personal bias and wanting Sheff United to be awarded a Champions League place as compensation, the best thing that could come out of this is for a complete clear-out of the Premier League big-wigs and for whoever's left in charge to be given a right royal kick up the arse by Sepp Blatter/Tony Blair/whoever to ensure that they book their ideas up in future.

No matter what different opinions are held by supporters of the different clubs, everyone seems to agree that it has been a shambles from start to finish and every time new information surfaces the general opinion of the PL sinks even lower.

Totally agree with that.

What we need is clear rules and make it known that points WILL be taken away without doubt.

That will stop clubs doing dodgy deals and bending rules.
