Can't do a piece on United gaining promotion? Are you serious? Monday's paper had two spreads, an extra page and almost the entire back page, plus blurb on the front. Plus over 20 stories online

You said in post number 41:

"That'd allow me to predict the future? No-one knew what was going to happen for a certainty"

So please tell me why you can start work on a Championship supplement ? Have you suddenly been able to predict the future, if so, please tell me when the shit rag called the Sheffield Star finally goes under.

Evidence? I've given some to suggest there could be.

And I'm still a bit confused as to the decisions for the edition yesterday. You don't seem to get what the paper has conveyed. "On this day of great celebration and victory, let's look back at a famous defeat." Bonkers or bias...Or was it,

Let's run a retro piece on the semi at Wembley.
When?
10th April
What if United have been promoted and we're running articles on that, isn't something celebrating a famous defeat for them a bit incongruous and insensitive?
No, it celebrates a great Sheffield day out...fuck 'em!

Or is there no communication between features sections?

What evidence could I possibly give on how we do our jobs day to day? Maybe come in one day and see?
Re-reading the story, it wasn't reported as a famous win/defeat but a proud day out for Sheffield. Which it was (or at least it seemed, I was 2 at the time!)
The idea that it was done to shit on anyone's parade is genuinely nonsense. But as I've said, we do cover two sides equally and if there has ever been a bigger day for Sheffield sport in early April than that, I've not heard about it.

Wishing a bunch of people you don't know and have never met to become unemployed, on the basis of a paranoid theory that isn't true. Good, decent, hard working people. What a shame. Hope that never happens to you or your family.

What? Someone earlier suggested we ignored the 7-3 game, but we didn't - as link shows.
That is clearly not what I asked. I asked because you managed to even mention the boxing day game in your piece on the 7-3 game, Did you also manage to reference the 7-3 game in your piece on the Boxing day game?

Thank you.

And nobody within the whole set-up had no inkling that, however the piece was drafted, many Blades would see it as exactly that?

When they beat Leeds in the play-off I look forward to the feature on ex-leeds player Bobby Davison and a wonderful night in Sheffield. We know it isn't going to happen.

It must be annoying to have Danny come on here and give reasonable explanations when all some of you want to do is hate on the Star, even in this glorious week. Keep lashing out, guys, no point listening to the reasonable views of somebody in the know who is a Blade and takes the time to come on here and explain things.
So for those of us asking reasonable questions, could you tell us your relationship with Danny?

A corporate box? Christ that must be going back some years. So wouldn't have the first clue. Seem to remember we had boards at The Lane next to the scoreboard in the 90s (when I was a kid...) but they've long gone now, at both grounds

It was some time ago, back in the days when we were semi-regular visitors to Hillsborough. But you've answered my question as best you can so thanks.

You can now get back to your article on profiling Sheffield Wednesday's famous derby double's down the years....................

You should have that done by the time the kettle boils;)

Because the dates wouldn't line up :)

I think most reasonable Blades will acknowledge that the local paper will do a retro piece on arguably the biggest local derby of (semi) recent times.

However, what we do have issue with is the timing. Yes have a retro piece, but why not do it on the day it was & not coincide it with our triumph? Surely it wasn't written a day or 2 before print & could have been in the paper the week before. You keep saying you didn't know we would be going up, but surely once it became obvious you could have held the piece for a week or even a few days?

You have admirably tried defending everything your paper does but surely you also have to see it from our side & why we would think it favours them??

Don't remind me. Tudgay's goal was a screamer but the Kop was a horrible place to watch it fly in from

But he's not given a reasonable explanation as to why they can't do a piece on United gaining promotion because it was not certain, yet can start work on a championship supplement (which at the time was further away than actual promotion). How does that make sense ?

Have a look back on their facebook page. Anyone who questions or mocks a story gets attacked by the same people, whether it's about football or anything else.

It's a defend our shit reporting at all costs approach. Not a huge leap of faith to wonder if they all actually work there.

In any event, isn't it likely that the sports team would be involved in any spirts retro pages?

Rather than highlight that when we get promoted, do it when Wendy reach the play offs? If it's not deliberate, someone down there is pretty stupid.

Because the dates wouldn't line up :)

So answer the question...nobody at the paper had an inkling that Blades would see it as shitting on their parade, however the piece was presented? Nobody questioned the timing, nobody suggested pulling it and going with an alternative?

Timing is unfortunate of course, but I stand by the fact that the piece (which I bet half of those arguing against it haven't read) was one about Sheffield doing the city proud at Wembley. Of course it mentioned the score but didn't sensationalise it. In fact, Kelly came first in the headline because of his superb display.
I've answered this already but this part of the paper is done before the weekend, so it almost works a week behind - which is useful at the end of the season, when there's always another week of stuff to cover.
I don't, by any means, agree with everything we do but I will defend against people who abuse me and wish for me to become unemployed. I think that's fair enough, you may not and that's okay!

Right. Got it. With a week to go no one knew United could be promoted at the weekend.

It's worse than I thought down at your place.

That seems to be the point that's remaining unanswered.

And as you and I know, Sean, it goes to the crux of the issue. If they did object and got shot down = bias. If nobody thought it, then they are totally out of touch with 50% of their target customers or don't give a toss about them.

Did you read the Retro piece?

I've seen it, great article that shows Alan Kelly in a good light. Not the issue though, as said earlier it is still about a famous defeat on a day that should be about pure celebration. As I've asked plenty of times, did nobody in the whole set-up not realise Blades would see this as shitting on their parade? Was it not questioned by anybody?

No, the insinuation is that we purposefully put that in *because* it was the day United got promoted. It's wrong. As I've said, there's been no bigger sporting event for the city over that week in history. Did you actually read the piece, TBW57?

No such insinuation was intended, Danny. I am saying that The Star put in a retro piece on the weekend that the Blades were winning promotion not because it was Promotion Day but in spite of the fact. The reaction on this forum tells you all you need to know about how United fans feel about it. It was a bad editorial decision because it should have been obvious that Blades fans would be aggrieved by it.

I'm sure there were many other weeks during the year when the Retro article on the Semi-Final could have been printed without offending anyone. Did it really not occur to you, or to the editor, that this weekend wasn't the right time?

And now you know how a lot of fans feel about it, wouldn't it be more gracious to acknowledge that a mistake was made?

Anyone would think the staff at The Star don't want United fans to read the paper. Since you ask (and you are perfectly entitled to do so) I don't. That's nothing to do with Owls/Blades though; it's simply because I consider it to be rubbish.

Are we due another article on who has the best song or who takes the biggest following away or who has the best and biggest stadium with a poll so a saddo pig can sit all day adding votes to make sure they win.
If a dog shits on Penistone road you can be sure it will be reported that it's owner is a Unitedite.

There aren't many other weeks in the year that correspond with April 3

Without meaning to point out the obvious, this week doesn't either! You could have run that article on Monday last week...you know, on April 3rd?

Fourth time I've addressed this now. Works a week behind.
