Dirty pig rag at it again

No doubt the weekend we win the title the retro section of the Stir will reflect on a game played 38 years ago on Boxing day.

We will win the title this weekend, which is is of course Easter.

The sensible retro for the Star would be the 1980 Easter derby at the Lane which ended all square. They could have one small paragraph and a picture of Pig Curran scoring, then link it to a 28 page special on the earlier Boxing Day derby in the same season.

In no way would this be done deliberately to overshadow our title win, as it would have been decided at the retro meeting on Thursday, where apparently they sit in a hermetically sealed bunker with no idea of what might be going on in the outside world.

We should just buy the paper, be grateful we get any mention at all and stop 'whinging'.

No, the insinuation is that we purposefully put that in *because* it was the day United got promoted. It's wrong. As I've said, there's been no bigger sporting event for the city over that week in history. Did you actually read the piece, TBW57?
Does The Star run with the semi-final story this week every year then ? No thought not so why this time?

well Danny
it will be the second Champions supplement the Star has done in the past 50 years
both for United

unfortunately the Star cant do a memory lane look back at Wednesday being champions in the last 50 years as it aint occurred

its a song any living wednesday fans hasnt got to sing

Quite right.

I can't remember if it was last year. You've got a better memory than me, you tell me. But it's the RETRO section, there's a clue

24th :) that will be covered, don't worry...

Bit late to the party but confused never the less. Why did you do a nostalgia piece a week after it should have been run. (semi being placed on the 3rd April)

One thinks you knew what you were doing. Maybe you can't predict the future, but I am sure you could have a good guess what was going to happen?

Answered that already, see my reply to Linz.

So it wasn't a deliberate ploy to undermine what SUFC achieved this weekend? OK mate I believe you thousands wouldn't and don't.

it does seem queer the retro section always remembers boxing day 79 too
why are division 3 games from 40 years ago of any relevance now
we beat them 7-3 in the seventies , can only recall 1 piece on this in my lifetime , yet this boxing day game from an era when
both clubs were floundering in the lower reaches is dragged out every single year without fail
when the only detail of note was the attendance ,

That's up to them, but it's not true. Take it you missed everything else we did about United's promotion? Or doesn't that suit your agenda?

Go on guys, just for this week enjoy the positive vibes and drop the self-pitying whines about 'the local newspaper hates us'. We've just got prompted! UTB.

We would just like some positive vibes coming from you guys, but you have spoilt it with a pointless retro piece one week after the event.

Cheers for your take on it Danny, I've not read a paper copy of the Star for some time, hence my ignorance on the Retro section... how often is that published these days?

The retro 'On this day' section pays an increasing part in filling this shit rag. It's aimed at their core readership.

In care homes.
