Dirty pig rag at it again

I was going to say they'll be saving it for when we are the Mighty Champions. Well they'd better be.

I normally stick up for the Star but it was a poor editorial decision to publish the Oink-friendly Retro piece directly after our promotion. It was pretty clear we would go up on the Saturday. And as people have pointed out, the anniversary was the following weekend, it wasn't even the (nearly) 25th anniversary, it was the 24th.

I'm sure they could have picked a more neutral Retro topic

Go on guys, just for this week enjoy the positive vibes and drop the self-pitying whines about 'the local newspaper hates us'. We've just got prompted! UTB.

No "self pitying whines" here just anger at the constant digs from "the local rag" and the pro pig bias that is barely denied. I don't like to see anyone lose their job but for a paper that is clearly not fit for purpose I will make an exception I hope The Star goes bust and the sooner the better.

Cheers for your take on it Danny, I've not read a paper copy of the Star for some time, hence my ignorance on the Retro section... how often is that published these days? I assumed at least weekly, hence my question above about the date. If it's not weekly, then like you say, it's certainly relevant to early April.

I'm actually surprised there hasn't been more anger from Blades fans aimed at the nationals, as some of the coverage this weekend in those was atrocious (appreciate we aren't currently a big pull).

No probs! As I say Retro is usually done and dusted on the Thurs before it comes out on the Monday, so we're talking March 30. So semi wouldn't have flagged up as it was early April (3rd I believe? I was 2 years old so missed it, luckily!!)
Hence why it made it this week. I only glanced at the piece but I know it prominently praised Alan Kelly's performance, and had pics of both fans enjoying the day.
As I've alluded to elsewhere, it's a Sheffield paper and there's been no bigger sporting event in early April than this one. That the other side happened to win it wasn't even considered.
Re: the nationals, it's a strange one. I saw it (and Donny) got 2 paragraphs in Metro but on a week with Prem and Champ games, it's down the pecking order I guess. Although Tufty on Talksport etc suggests there's interest there. I certainly think fans of the club at captain, manager and co-chair level is unique and I'm sure it'll get picked up on in the Championship!

No doubt the weekend we win the title the retro section of the Stir will reflect on a game played 38 years ago on Boxing day.

That'd allow me to predict the future? No-one knew what was going to happen for a certainty and Retro had nothing to do with main sports coverage, so take your moronic comments elsewhere
Not really very bright are you Danny04 if you couldn't predict what would be happening last weekend. How long have you been following the Blades now ? I remember you as a wet behind the ears sprog hoping to become a journalist seems like not much has changed in the last 10 -15 years.

Posted this elsewhere but it's relevant here too, Martin. It wasn't chosen to do it today. It's a section where we look back at big games around the current date, over the years. Pick a bigger game in Sheffield in early April from the past? Spread (not a 'big spread' as there's no such thing) also leads heavily on Alan Kelly's stunning performance.

Did you print a picture of Cork's goal?

I ask because the 72 page Special that was on sale the evening of the semi final didn't manage to find space for one...

Don't usually buy the dirty pig rag, but thought seeing as we got promotion it'll be full of Blades stuff, opened the centre page to find a retro special on the Wembley semi-final of '93 with the dirty pigs in full celebration mode.

They really are a disgusting classless bunch at the Star, the sooner they go belly up, the better. I'll not be spending another 75p on that prile of shite.

Well it is the 24th anniversary , its special

looking forward to the 24th anniversary of Arsenal scoring the injury time winner special next month

15 years ago when I was just starting secondary school at 11?

So can you tell us how your preparations are going for the May 5th 1990 retro please? We're all looking forward to that one!

It was going to go one of two ways or is that a bit too much like hard work ?

Local journalism, it's a hard job and I fully respect these guys who do it day in and day out to bring the news that matters.

The Retro section was polished off on Friday, before anyone knew what was gonna happen over the weekend.

You are insulting our intelligence here, Danny. It didn't take a genius or a clairvoyant to predict that the Blades, who needed only to win at Northampton to ensure promotion, would do so.

Rather then trying to defend the insensitivity of your paper towards Blades supporters you should be acknowledging that The Star got it wrong, again, and apologising for it.

Or 10 year ago when you were ready to leave school posting on a different forum asking for opinions of your reporting. Why not put a bit more effort and research into what you do rather than taking the easy option and putting out crap articles and click bait or is that too much to ask?

No, the insinuation is that we purposefully put that in *because* it was the day United got promoted. It's wrong. As I've said, there's been no bigger sporting event for the city over that week in history. Did you actually read the piece, TBW57?

Blimey, you know more about me than I do! Thanks for the kind words, mate. All the best :)
