Wilder has publicly said he has no problem working with a Director of Football.

He refused to work with the Princes' Jan Van Winkel. Didn't play Retsos who became a greek international and top Bundesliga player. He fell out with the one at Middlesbro and wouldn't use the players{Forss and Hoppe) he signed for him. They sacked him!

Hope it's somone a bit sharper than Tinnion, he's not a popular fella at Ashton Gate

When? A DOF typically means he’d be a head coach, which he wouldn’t want to work as. He wants full rein.
On working with a Director of Football:

"I work within a group and a structure. Ultimately, I have to be comfortable with players I am working with. Every manager will say that. But I am flexible, too. As long as we have a shared plan and strategy I am totally fine with it."

On demanding full rein:

“I know there is a lot of talk about me wanting to absolutely run everything. Well, that is absolute nonsense. I just want to work with good people who have the same vision and ideas and that’s how I see a football club running."

Key point there is “how I see a football club running”

In other words, yeah, I'll work with a DoF, as long as they agree with me.

As opposed to all those managers who want to work with a DoF who disagrees with them?

You want to put him in charge of signings?!
No. Absolutely not. That needs a specialist team, with deep data and plenty of eyes on experience. But as the person who shapes the style, value, tone, is the media face of the club, shapes the footballing strategic overview for the club. I dunno, just a thought.
