Whilst we're winning and not playing too well is good, although a bit worrying I sat and wondered last night vs Walsall if 4-4-2 is in fact our best formation?

We haven't got an out and out winger, we all know that so why carry on playing 4-4-2?

Flynn - Tries hard, decent player when he's having a good day. None existent when having a poor game. His deliveries have been poor of late. All his corners last night were poor. Think he's maybe an impact player at best.

Cofie - If we can't accommodate him upfront, do we need him? Why don't we send him back to Man Utd? We have plenty strikers in Blackman, Cresswell, Porter, Kitson, Miller, Ironside. We should send him back and get a winger in.

4-3-3 - As I've mentioned the two players don't seem to be good enough on the flanks why not go 4-3-3?

We could put McAllister, Harriott or Whitehouse etc. in alongside Doyle and McDonald then put Miller and Blackman either side of Kitson.

Just thoughts??

P.S. Long has been awesome and should retain his place.

You could be right SP, or you could be being influenced by previous managers (Colin and Hoofy) who would say they were going 433 but everyone knew full well it was a far more negative 451 they had in mind all along.

I don't think we have the players to go 4-3-3 tbh then again we don't have the players to go 4-4-2 successfully, quite how we are where we are is a mystery to me. I see a squad overloaded with strikers and down to the bones in midfield scratching out draws and 1-0 wins which lets be honest can't last, poor performances even against 10 men will not get us anywhere. Still some say someone is due a right hammering I'm just not sure it will not be us that gets hammered, we might just see shortly as we will be up against some decent teams on paper soon.

Having read the above posts sending Coffie back and getting in a fast direct winger would be a great idea.
We have plenty of strikers in the squad already.

How many times have you seen them play this year Metal?

The defence is quality though. Even with Hill and Williams we have conceded less goals than every other team in the division so if we can start creating chances for our strikers, somebody really will take an hammering.

The quality of strikers we have is incredible for this league but we are showing little signs of creating decent chances for them.

I think Wilson has gone for a more negative approach this season as he knows we arent going to socre lots of goals due to the quality offensive players that left in the Summer. I think he knows we are not going to outscore the opposition so hes going for a mean defence.
On the formation debate I used to love the 3-5-2 formation, it is versatile in that you can play with 5 at the back if you have to and can switch to a more offensive formation if that is required

bring back Quinn and Borbokis :)

The nutshell is we are four quality players down on last season. (Lowton, Willo, Quinn, Super Ched). They are proving difficult to replace without the resources to spend.

Then when you consider that, then it is quite an achievement that we are in a better position that we was this time last season.

We are not allowed to send Cofie back. We have a binding agreement to take him for the season. Man Ure can order him back, though.

It's not a mystery at all. It's done by achieving results that accrue points. We are where our results merit. It seems you don't like that and are looking forward to a few defeats?

1996/1997 and 2003/04 were seasons where expectations were high and we started well in terms of results. But performances were poorer than the years before and we struggled eventually. Let's hope our performances will improve soon.

were expectations high , I didnt think they were
if it aint broke , etc , it might look tepid at times, but 2 points per game ,what man city would give for that and I do believe theyve spent a tad more than us

They currently have 18 points from 8 games - NEXT....
