(If the forum existed in 1978.....)

Some 17 year old that Harry Haslam has been watching in Argentina apparently, £200,000 though not sure we can afford that what with the board and all, and whether he's worth it.

What do people reckon, worth a punt?

Seems like a lot of money for a young lad.

Does he even speak English?

It was £500k for a kid no-one had every heard of.

We turned down the 'too good to be true' offer and bought Sabella instead for £160k.

In true United style it turned out well again. Okay we went down, but that minor detail aside, we sold him to DirtyLeeds for £400k (after turning down the Mackems £600k). Even then we were doing business 'United style'.

Can't say I know much about him, but will he want any wages?

If he does then I can't see us signing him. And I expect this to be a problem for us for at least the next 40 years.

Nah, he'll end up with a shitty Sheffield United-like club in Italy, someone like Napoli who've won fuck all for the past god knows how long and have no chance against the big dogs in Italy.

You weren't even a gleam in your Dads eye in 1978.

Unless of course you've had access to a DeLorean........

Let's go in for him, it's a lot of money but it could be worth it. I must say, it's nice to see we've expanded our scouting network outside the UK too. This network could come in handy in the future too by getting first dibs on the overseas talent.

We have decided that he will probably struggle in division 3 against the big teams like Leyton Orient,Exeter,Plymouth,Bristol Rovers etc so we are not going to pursue it.

A fee was agreed between us and Argentinos Juniors. One of our directors, Albert Bramall, agreed to provide the money. Then the president of Argentinos Juniors stepped in and asked for more money so we called off the deal.

Nah - looks like a nasty, cheating little bastard.

I'd set light to him and then walk away with a very full bladder.

Surely we don’t need foreigners, we need to be looking locally for players. If we start building our local relations now there might be a young lad coming through at Doncaster in 5-10 years

Actually, I agree, let's go for home grown kids and have a wage structure we'll not break even though we'll lose out on every potential signing we want leaving us with the dross. "We tried, but..."
