Why does anyone think anyone further up the league would be remotely interested in a player who has played twice in the third division and has suffered a serious injury?

I could name one Premier League team that are very interested.....and we ain't talking about the likes of Hull City

Before I start I'm not one who has any kind of links to the Blades hierarchy nor do I directly know anyone at the club. Through a close friend who is also friends with Diego's family I have been told he is set to reject any offer United put forward to him.

Diego is very unhappy at United and is looking forward to leaving, when United recalled him from York he was extremely unhappy and nearly in tears to his father. He feels that York allow him to play with freedom and Clough doesn't, Diego has see a lot of players around the same age as him given their opportunity and he has been left behind. Clough wasn't happy with his attitude when he first joined the club and they haven't really seen eye to eye since.

Diego's agent is an ex Chesterfield player and two clubs that are interested in Diego are Bournemouth and Chesterfield. Chesterfield cant afford to pay a fee for Diego so it would have to be on a free.

I wouldn't usually write something like this on here because 9/10 the rumours on here are rubbish and the person writing is instantly shot down but with this coming from somebody I trust I thought I would share it.

Hope I am wrong, I wouldn't want to see us lose a promising youngster without seeing them given there chance to shine in the first team.

Certainly rings true and more's the pity.

True skills and natural ability only come along every so often and should be valued and developed. The lad has not been encouraged by Clough as far as I can see and nobody could blame him for choosing his club when the time suits him.

Perhaps Diego just needs to look around at players like Reed, Kennedy and the other young lads and if he's good enough he'll get a chance.

Not sure on the point about him "playing with freedom", does he mean that he just wants to play that he wants and not be part of a team? If thats the case then he again needs to look at the team that played yesterday and perhaps he can see why those young lads are getting their chances. They play in a system.

It does sounds plausible.
It was always going to be difficult to persuade Diego to extend his contract while he was only on the fringes of the first team squad.
However, we are entitled to compensation and there is no way he will be joining Chesterfield (or anyone else) on a "free".

Sounds true. Club believed we had an option on him, we don't. Club now rushing to try and get him to sign a deal, he won't.

Also agree with Swiss in terms of youngsters getting a chance.

Shame if he goes. Injury free and with a change of scenery I reckon he'll do very well in a few years time.

.

. The lad has not been encouraged by Clough as far as I can see and nobody could blame him for choosing his club when the time suits him.

And yet Clough appears to encourage the kids, e.g. Dimaio, Kennedy, Khan and Reed. Is the real issue the p[layer rather than the manager ? Is DG not as good as DG thinks he is ?

Little Diego sounds like a prized prick if you ask me. Most threads about him are about him having a run in with someone or other at the club.

There is no denying his ability, he has a great reputation around the club. If he really is "that good" he would have broken through as others have done.

Didn't he tweet something about united the other day and get a fine?

Its funny that this comes up as there is another thread going about Brayford being at yesterdays match. What makes a player a fans and managers favourite? In Brayfords case it was in part due to him being a fantastic player, but mainly because he just came to the club and loved it at the lane.

Diego apparently has the talent and judging by the number of Diego threads on here over the past few years, he won't need to do that much to become a fans favourite.

He's a young lad with potentially the chance to have a very good career, sure were in league one now, but the way we go through the rounds of the cups under Clough, he could be a player that makes the headlines like JCR did yesterday and thats surely more valuable than throwing his toys out of the pram about being recalled from York!

......... and there's me thinking that he wasn't getting a game as he had an ACL injury to recover from.
Odd if you'd expect to walk straight into a team from day one after coming back from such a long lay off.
Surely the best way to strengthen and develop and get game time is by going out on loan - since there are no competitive reserve games any more.
You then get recalled so you are not cup tied with your loan team and go back on loan afterwards - for the good of the club that holds your registration.
How silly do I feel now?

The only thing I would say is that he has not been played in a position he can be effective in, he was played wide left in his only start this campaign, - so is he better than McNuts? No, of course not - and look how patient he has had to be.

If this is really his attitude then he will struggle to settle anywhere as he clearly sees himself as some billy big bollocks and he is not demonstrating that he is a team player. He hasn't torn up league 2 as far as I can tell - he has been steady in a struggling team but nothing more - how this translates to automatic pick for SUFC in the position they are in? That's some warped logic to justify, that is.

Up to now the lad is all hype ,gone to York now benching for them .if the lad has billy big bollox syndrome then he will end up non league . Crucate injuries have finished better players than Diego .
Think he needs a word in his shell like .

A message to all the fans - there are times when you have to trust NC and the management team know what they are doing and at the moment all we have is one side of a story - jackanory comes to mind.

No doubt Diego may be upset but ALL of this "could" be a story put out by the agent - does Jordan Slew or Harry Maguire ring a bell. His agent is only doing his job by trying to get his player either games where he is, and therefore a pay rise or be instrumental in engineering a move else where, which in itself will generate a pay rise. Really strange isn't it that this story breaks when the transfer window has just opened......dear me.

As for Chezzer not being able to afford a transfer fee - simple solution - FUCK OFF.

If you want Diego, put it in the pot with Eoin Doyle. Chezzer say they can't afford to sell Doyle cheap as to the large sell on clause - well, fuck me, you GOT him in the first place on those terms and single handed will probably keep you in this division this season, so shut the fuck up with your begging bowl.

oh dear - rant over..............

He's on the bench because the trainer stood on his foot in the warm up of the last match he played in and he has damaged it and he's not yet 100%

Perhaps if he chose to listen to NC, who knows a thing or two about playing football, instead of "advisers" who don't, he would have a career ahead of him.

You know, Diego is contracted to serve SUFC. You would be forgiven for thinking it the other way round, reading some of the tosh written by the X Factor fans on here.

Diego has four grown-up goals to his name, all in Division Four. He has now found himself on the bench at mighty York. Not exactly knocking the door down, is he? Poor lad.

he needs to toughen up in the warm up then and twofoot the trainer .

Further to the compensation issue, the rules regarding that are here:-

http://fullcontactlaw.co.uk/2014/05/compensation-players-24-mystery/

The key point being "Where a professional player, under the age of 24, has been offered a new contract by his club and he rejects that offer in order to take up the opportunity to sign for another club, compensation will be payable. In the majority of cases, clubs will reach mutual agreement on a compensation fee. However, in others the two clubs’ valuations will differ, sometimes significantly, and the matter will need to be settled through an arbitration process"

The idea that Chesterfield could sign him on a free because they're skint and his agent used to play for them is thankfully laughable.

However, as Fulwood Blade mentions if Diego refuses to sign a new contract by the end of January, we could well use Diego as a bargaining chip to get someone like Doyle in.

The trainer must be really clumsy.
29/11 Plymouth - on bench
13/12 Wimbledon - started
20/12 Bury - started.
26/12 Accrington - Started - subbed after an hour.
28/12 Carlisle - on bench
3/1 Plymouth - on bench.

Injured prior to Accrington game, came off as he was in agony, had a stitch in the gash consequently on bench the next two games. Easy :)

4 goals in 8 games for York not a bad loan move really so far.

It would be a shame to see him go but maybe using him in part of a deal for a new player would be a good move.

Poor lad. He really has been treated inhumanly, in breach of too many Articles of the European Convention on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms for me to count.

I've heard Clough and Garner actually water-boarded him before sending him into exile at Yorkanamo Bay.

We will have only ourselves to blame when this goal-machine rejects us in favour of Real Tadcaster.

yes diego has to earn a first team place as i have said before boy and youth football comes easy to gifted players but the transition from youth foot ball to 1st team football is massive and he has yet to bridge the gap,he will of course be allowed to go back to york on loan when cloughy feels we have enough cover without him yes he is only cover at the moment the rest is up to him ".come diego get your finger out!!"
up to him.

This is bollocks.
The manager doesn't like him will be delighted if he leaves and has only played him out of position as a left field mid – in place of others who could and have already played there!
How is getting somebody on in injury time at Colchester or wherever, then ignoring them for a year 'encouraging' them.
It's taking the piss!
Reed is the only one getting games - and even when he plays well he's left out.
And don't give me bollocks about resting.
10 years ago I was playing against 17 years olds in the mens leagues in the morning and reffing them in youth leagues in the afternoon.
FFS Can't he rest in between games and not flog himself to death in training :?[/QUOTE]

ps. You can't ignore a player for your first team then say he's worth money.
We deserve and will get sweet FA.
All because of Clough.
Same scenario as Whitehouse - which is probably yet another cue for Deigo getting out and not wasting his time here.
Never given a chance.
Journey men and other young loans given opportunities instead.
pps Where's MacFadzean? New contract talks to personna non grata overnight.
But yet all last years youth team (who won little if anything in the Youth Cup) were all signed up :?
Clough has cleared everyone out except Morgs mate Kennedy.
Deliberate policy.
