I wondered why you quoted a figure then?

A guess and for Illustrative purposes, that OK?. Somebody above says it's £2k, fair enough.
l
Average wage in League 1 was between £1700 and £2500, though how an average can be "between" anything I don't know. Wages for a striker prospect and Italian youth international could be anything of course. 12 months later he's not done himself much good, maybe watch him go to Chesterfield!

He got a very good prolonged chance at Northampton. He flopped.

No doubt Northampton was a failure, but to say it was a prolonged chance is nonsense.

He signed in mid-March, set up a goal on his debut against Bury in a 2-1 defeat a couple of days later.
Went on Italy u20 duty got injured and missed the next couple of games, returning as a sub in an Easter Monday loss against Cambridge.
He got 90 minutes in a 2-1 defeat to Stevenage.
Had 70 minutes in a 1-1 draw with Oxford.
He got over and hour against Cheltenham, with Northampton's top scorer replacing him and scoring in a 2-0 win.
Replaced by Marc Richards again at half time in a 3-1 defeat at Burton.
Was an unused sub for the 3-2 defeat to Wycombe in the last game of the season.

So at most he had 9 games to play, missed a couple through injury and was dropped for Northampton's top-scorer and captain for the last one. All the time he was there, Northampton were in awful form, dropping out of play-off contention. So he had a chance at Northampton. He failed to score and left enough of an impression on Wilder that he didn't want him here, but six games really isn't a prolonged chance to prove anything.

Thanks Diego. You know, you really ought to have a good think. This notion of the whole world conspiring to derail your glittering career on the world stage doesn't really fit the unarguable fact of your abject failure to cope in adult football, now does it?

I really enjoyed your one goal in grown-up football. Now get your bags packed and off you go. Greatness awaits you and the cruel tyrants who have shunned you will live to regret it. It's not your fault that your incomparable genius is lost on the rest of football. In fact, nothing is your fault. You have no faults. You are Faulty McFaultless.

He was doing fine back at York after the first spell but then specifically requested we recall him from that deal to allow him to jump ship (from a relegation threatened York) go to Northampton. York were quite rightly pissed off – that whole episode said a lot about his character in my view.

It was his third spell at York when he asked to be recalled and go to Northampton. The first one he played centrally and scored 3 in 4.
We recalled him, played him wide in the JPT, just used him as a sub in the FA Cup 1st round games, and left him on the bench for two league games and sent him back to York.
He came on as a sub, then started out wide and scored, got playing through the middle again for two games, got benched for two games, then got recalled again.
Didn't get in the squad for a single league game for us, played and scored in the FA Cup 4th round against Preston offered/rejected a new contract and fell out with Clough somewhere along the way. 10 minute sub appearance in the Preston replay then dumped off to York again where he struggled to make an impact as they'd had to move on without him.

Then he pulled the dick move of going to Northampton which backfired as they went from classy promotion chasers to scrappy losers. Diego screwed himself over with his attitude and behaviour at times during that season, but all those choppy loan spells prevented him building any kind of momentum.

No, he was a bit shit with a bad attitude, it still doesn't make his loan spell at Northampton very good and prolonged.

You can't help but get tetchy can you?

Yes it's okay. But a total guess to illustrate what. The reason I asked, was that I'd been told his basic was £1500 plus app money etc, which sort of ties in with derecacorahs post.
Based on what he achieved at first team level even that seems a lot of money and shows the profligacy of the people dealing with contracts. If that was Adkins doing as has been suggested I'm not surprised we wasted so much on the lijes of Hammond.

To me, three grand a week was a ridiculous "illustration" dredged up from nowhere and added nothing of value to the thread. Something you never cease to castigate others for.

farewell Diego, despite having a season ticket throughout your time at the Blades I saw about 4 mins of action from you. A couple of decent runs and a miskick at an open goal that I think may have landed at Porter's feet for a tap in

However, thanks to internet forums I feel as if I know your game inside out as well having more knowledge than required about your family. Best of luck lad

Keep calm Sean, the sun's shining. I was probably just too late to edit it !!!:)

BTW my first post did have one of those little "squiggles" at the end of the sentence:rolleyes:, indicating a question when I was at school anyway. :)

You just can't help yourself can you. Fantasy or bitchiness.

You could stick to the point you know but my last word you quoted three grand and the "squiggle" Looks to me like it referred to the - even dafter - claim of "more". Perhaps you missed the lesson explains the difference when punctuating.

Suit yourself Sean.

I don't think he's ever got over his injury, physically or mentally. He would have grown up spending most of his teenage years thinking he had a glittering future; he was out of this world as a young player, so many said they'd never seen a kid as good.

Then, a bad injury at the worst time in his development, as he was just breaking through, robbed him of a vital period where he should have been learning how to adapt his skills to become an effective professional footballer. He must have been gutted and scared. All your dreams and all you've worked for out of the window.

Frustration when he came back from injury, the inability to recapture the form he had, the skills he had, probably contributed to his 'attitude problems'. He would have been desperate to get back to where he thought he should be and probably a bit put out that certain players got picked (by both Nigels) regularly when they were performing poorly.

He's a victim of circumstances - his injury, the inconsistency of managers and the failure of the club to move forwards, as well as his own attitude and it's a shame it hasn't worked out for him. Football's a tough game.

It's a long hard road for success as a footballer. Good luck to him, there's time yet. As you say, the environment at the club has not helped anybody much.

It's really difficult to bring kids through in a team that's expected to win every game but is struggling to do so. Managers under pressure almost always revert to playing senior players whom they trust, even if the senior players are themselves struggling.

What an almighty shame, and what a waste.

He looked more talented than anything our academy's produced, and very different. Then injury fucked him and he never got a chance. We would've at least got good money for him at one stage. How typical of us to produce a rare, exciting type of player and never get to see anything of him.

There must be a reason he didn't get a chance when fit under different managers, but that doesn't take away from the sense of what might have been.

Sorry but it's 50 percent talent and 50 percent attitude. He had one but not the other. I am angry he never used what he had when we spent time and money developing him. He had an opportunity most of us could only dream about and pissed it up the wall. Wanker.

I also do think he is like a lot of very talented young players . Playing a game of football against there own age look very good and talented. . However the transition to men's football from boys football cannot be bridged .

This IMO is the problem we have with the academy pathway.

Sorry- potentially me just being thick.

If he was transfer listed, not released, then that means he was under contract. So his contract has now been terminated, does that mean we've paid up his contract? Or was there some sort of termination clause?
mutual consent like collins also means we dont get any compensation from clubs for him only thing it realistically does is allow us some more money for wage bill

"..mutual consent like collins..."

He was paid off as well, would not budge if not, according to an ITK I know

You might have missed a full stop in there somewhere Sean.;)

You've already replied to this post Woody. Such is your obsession with being top dog you've ruminated over this for how many hours, around 24 before yet another mardy reply?
That adds nothing to the thread (copyright [email protected])

You tell others to have a break from here, you really should consider it yourself.

Pot calling the kettle again, or is the kettle Top Dog on the hob?:p

For one who suggests I missed punctuation lessons at school it really is hard to believe you've missed another full stop !! It's a common failing after brackets but it doesn't matter too hoots, of course it doesn't, except to you. BTW I was taught names need capitals too.

Your comment about me thinking I'm Top Dog explains a lot to me about you but I can't help you get over it.

I would put you on 'ignore' but I don't trust you and need to know what you are posting about me; in that respect you are unique on this forum.

I wish we could paddle along in different streams, I really do. How did this start yesterday? Oh yes, I illustrated Diego's contract negotiations with a £3k a week wage which you found so "ridiculous". Life's too short.:(

He should be a millionaire by now though, eh?
