I still find it odd that we signed a forward who has either played left of a front three or has played upfront alone with 3 playmakers behind him and expecting him to just seamlessly transition to a offensively barren style of football. Like 95% of the squad he has been mostly awful in 2020, and it wont improve till we actually cater our system to the players or sign players that fit the current uninspiring styles of play. IMO no decent striker would look at us with eagerness and think "Fuck me, if I go there I can really tally some goals up" with the way we are now playing.

Makes for a good read and its worth noting that McBurnie is 3 years younger than Bamford and at the same age, Bamford was on his fourth failed loan spell before Middlesbrough signed him and got relegated.

Oli has the advantage of having much more Premier League experience at the same age and is still getting into the right positions...

He will come good, or maybe he won't, but getting on his back all the time certainly won't help him.

(Even if he is a stonking great wazzock off the pitch. Which he definitely is.)

He scored a goal every 2 games at championship level. No way is he 2 leages above. Wont ever be a top Premier league striker but I won't write him off as a lower end Prem striker.
You mean lower than rock fucking bottom ?!

Decent championship player as he showed at Swansea but I'm afraid the step up has found him out.
I disagree. He’s not off the pace of this division, he causes all sorts of problems to opposition defences, gets into the positions, he’s just missing a shit load of simple chances.

No problem, it's all about opinions but I'm not sure what he offers. He cant dribble, he's not quick and his hold up play is weak. He obviously can score but rarely looks likely to which is a worry. Maybe it's a confidence thing but he definitely needs to step up.

He also looks knackered by the 50th minute in every game he plays

Lets compare to Mousset and Sharp etc last season eh

McBurnie ............. 36 apps 6 goals 1in 6
Mousset ............... 30 apps 6 goals 1 in 5
Sharp ..................... 25 apps 3 goals 1 in 8+
McGoldrick ......... 28 apps 2 goals 1 in 14
Robinson ............. 17 apps 1 goal 1 in 17

Was McBurnie shit last season? No joint top scorer with Mousset he wasn't the problem last season he isn't the problem this season Looking at the figures it makes the clamour for the over 30's to start up front quite laughable.

Yes.

Shit last.

Shit this.

You’re welcome 😀.

Really admirable of Didzy to back his colleague, but our own eyes can’t hide the truth, he’s been given a very good crack at the whip, but he’s come up miles short I’m afraid.

Sorry Didz but he’s rubbish.

I was ignoring you because you post so much bullshit, out of curiosity had a look at the stat. You've amalgamated starts and sub appearances, not bothered to work it out by minutes played or anything. You really are the biggest bullshitter on this board, above the Wednesday interlopers, you utter sack.

I don’t actually think he needs to do much. The chances are falling to him so he’s getting into the positions.

He doesn’t need to be an all rounder, he can’t be a Brooks, a Billy and a crouch all in one... that would make him a bit of a drogba type...

His role is clear. He performs it well. I don’t like the way we play longer to hit McB but against WBA that changed a bit.

I also think he’s sometimes the wrong striker in the right position. He shouldn’t be playing on the shoulder of the Centre Half when Mousset and Brewster are on the pitch

loads to come from McB

it is all about opinions and my personal opinion is that hes way out of his depth in the premier league against international defenders every week but if the worst happens and we go down i think he could be very useful in the championship its his level imo

What like his link up play ? His pressing ? His hold up play to start attacks ?
Link up play - winning headers that go to their players.

Pressing - can’t remember see him force a defender into making an error, he’s too slow.

Hold up play - His touch at times has been shocking, a few times last week the ball pinballed off his first touch to their players.

I hope he turns out good but this season so far he hasn’t been at the races. He needs a few games off to see if it leads to a change in our style of play and a bit more pace on the pitch.

The West Brom left foot one? It was a glaring miss: see below. McBurnie's body shape is all wrong, all he needed to was pass it into the bottom corner.

The surprising thing is that wasn't the 'big' chance: that was a near post flick a minute prior following the well-worked freekick:

Not denying they weren’t good chances but they weren’t sitters or 0.5 XG chances a penalty is 0.7 I think

No ones denying mcburnies finishing has been poor this season it has but his all round play has been excellent which is why it looks like wilder picks him as the fist striker on the team sheet

You must not have been watching the matches then

This thread fascinates me in terms of psychology.

Star striker is having a torrid.

His colleague. the gaffer and certain parts of the media rally round the beleaguered poor bugger.

Any number of apologists jump on the bandwagon having been unusually quiet for some time 😉.

Can’t wait for the inevitable “you daft twats” when he does eventually find the onion bag 😂.

It’s the Blades Way !!!

Someone should copyright that while an opportunity exists 😀.

I’d be happy to be called a daft twat if he matches last seasons goal tally. He won’t so I’m not.

The ‘told you so’ threads are as annoying as that Brighton knob telling us when Maupay scores.

He performs it well...that was the Liverpool game where after consideration I'd give him 5.5 out of 10.
Every other game he has been much, much worse.

Why don't you work it out ya utter melt let's see how good the others are in comparison?

A penalty is 0.8, I don't know what factors are taken into consideration when deciding xG but that one against West Brom where he had time position and tapped it back towards their goal had to be another 0.8 or thereabouts. His overall play has been wank in all but one match where it was acceptable. And the reason he seems to be first striker on the team sheet? We are seeing a very stubborn man (Wilder) not want to accept he has wasted a load of money. Y'know what I'd be happy for them to say McBurnie has glandular fever if we can use that as an excuse to say he doesn't need to start but at the moment it's like playing with 10 men and worse than that a 1 man attack.

Didsy knows ? Knows what ?
How to go a year without scoring.
But in his case the other aspects of his play kept him in the squad.

The only thing keeping McB in is his defensive headers at set pieces and the fact that CW daren't admit another of his Summer 2019 signings has failed to make the grade.
He's already binned off Calum Robinson & Luke Freeman , Moose can't last for a full match or stay in the side.

McB offers next to nothing apart from winning aerial duels in defence & midfield , from which nothing ever develops. He doesn't win em very often in attack and I think he's scored one header v Leicester 15 months ago. Most go straight to the goalie.

He works very hard but he can't overcome his lack of natural attributes.

He's neither quick nor strong nor balanced. His running style is awkward. He often fouls his marker and yet seems genuinely to believe the foul should go his way. He moans so much at refs that after a while he gets even less than he deserves.

When crosses or passed come in he looks flatfooted , not on his toes , making the anticipation.
Then if he gets a shooting chance he hits the ball without conviction "somewhere near the middle of the goal" , which of course usually coincides with the goalie's position.

I really wonder if he's getting no coaching about getting his body balanced & over the ball and choosing a corner of the net to aim at.
With CWAK being defenders , is there anyone at the Club dedicated to developing strikers ?
Having shopped for strikers at a level where they might or might not make the stepup to PL , who is going to improve them ?

Anyway , I think McB needs resting whilst we concentrate on getting Burke , Brewster & maybe Moose into some kind of groove. Play on the deck + use their pace.

Once we're back in the Championship it might be time for McB to show us how he got all those goals.

Like many others , I was delighted when we signed McBurnie and was one of the first to jump to his defence when he started to get criticised last season .

However ,as time has gone on I’ve become more and more disappointed with his performances and agree with those who now think he should , at best , be used as an impact sub .

I’ve never subscribed to the theory that strikers can be excused for not scoring goals if they run about a lot or ‘win aerial battles .’ In respect of the latter , he does quite well defensively but further up the pitch when he does win it , it’s more a case of it bouncing of his head and occasionally going to one our players . James Hanson could do that .......

Having said all this , it has been blatantly obvious for a long time that the system we play makes being a striker in our team an unenviable role to say the least , and it comes as no surprise that all of them have had meagre returns .
