Devante Cole

A half decent division 3 striker is worth £500,000, maybe a little more
But it depends how long is left on their contract.

The Neymar Jr to PSG for 200 million seems to have distorted the whole market.
So maybe league 1 teams think they can get £5 million for a striker now?
However I'd expect the market to normalise in the next window.
See peterborough they have sold strikers in the past l1 that is for millions IE Assombollonga so get your head out of your arse no excuses on bringing in Cole .

Plus, Peterborough have sold many, many players for extortionate amounts from yes, you've guessed it, league one. A million quid for a 22 year old who has the potential to improve dramatically is absolutely fuck all in this day and age. If we'd have made a bid that Fleetwood couldn't turn down then they'd have accepted no matter whether they got someone in or not. Oh well, we've got Donaldson now who will do well for the short time he'll be here.
Beat me to it with peterborough pal .

So Frustrating get off to a great start all can see add some power and pace and we would be around top 6 in Jan ready for a push with maybe 1 or 2 more players but no we will struggle along upfront then try to buy a striker or 2 to keep us up .. no blame what so ever on Wilder but the club has shown no ambition here they are obviously happy to tread water hoping to spend as little as possible hoping for Wilder to wave a magic wand . Can't sign a striker in form now well they go for even more money in Jan window so what's that tell us ? At least 2 strikers should have been brought in this week both with pace what happened to that J Sinclair ?

Nonsense,it was all down to penny pinching from McCabe,i know this for a fact,i read it on here
Don't give the pack ammunition Fred I know that was said in jest, but they might beleave it .
Wilder knew there would be elements of our fans moaning about lack of ambition. He has said more than once value for money is how he looks at it no one is going to have his pants down.
I bet privately he is livid at what Clough has done in the Brayford deal

We got about £1M for Adams and they just said no to £5m to sell. They gambled and won, that's how transfers work.

But we're 5th in the same league and they have a manager who is an expert at wrecking clubs.

Can I ask why?

People on here knew how the Brayford situation would pan out. It happens. We've done it ourselves.

I'm not Clough's biggest fan but he's absolutely nothing wrong here other than get what he believes is a good deal for his club.

Unless Wilder didn't want to pay more than he thought Cole was worth?
(outrageous concept,I know ;))

Dear oh dear - what a depressing read the pages of this thread leading up to 11pm last night are.

So many people it seems think recruiting players is easy (as easy as when playing Football Manager) and the club have limitless funds to throw around. It's easy to spend someone else's money

Of course in an ideal world some of the clubs other targets (CM, Winger) would have been acquired but all in all, the squad is much stronger than it was at the end of last season. Imagine how the supporters of Brentford are feeling today.

So you believe our 'last minute' transfer attempts were because we needed to shift Brayford on before bringing more players in?

Not at all!. We have got nothing out of the Brayford deal.He must have cost the club upwards of 3 million all in andClough has got him for free that gets up my nose.
We move on and have learned a very expensive lesson.Don't think Wilder will allow it to happen again ,something which was beyond his control

Let's fuck the football manager argument off that gets used way too much on here and ask ourselves how long have we needed some additions to push the first team on? And why leave it until the last twatting minute to try and get someone in who needed to come straight into the first team? We shouldn't leave things until Jim White Day, that's not usually what Wilder does, he likes things done early and for some reason he wasn't aloud to in most cases.

We have the funds so that's not the issue.

So why do you believe Wilder is livid at Clough, if it doesn't have any impact on his dealings?

P.S-your reply quoting costs rather suggests it does...

If he's got 15 goals by January 1st we've got no chance of signing him.

We might regret trying to pinch him rather than just paying the going rate.

How do you know we didn't pay the going rate and that it was accepted but Fleetwood were waiting to get a replacement in?

They gambled and won? How have they won? Currently they've got fuck all back for their money as he's not even playing.

Tom Barclay who writes for the FL for the Sun said we had several offers rejected

I think he knows more than we do.

I thought you knew everything?

We may have had offers rejected, doesn't mean we didn't have one accepted eventually. It's been suggested that we agreed a deal but they didn't get a replacement in. I guess you won't want to believe that though.

I don't want to believe it cos it isn't true, there's no substance to it anyway. You choose what you want to believe.

The like machine Tunstall Fred strikes again. Right on cue!

There's no substance to what Tom Barclay has said either (Wow, he writes for the Sun?!?) but you're willing to believe that

Unless you have insights within the club that the rest of us are not do not, do you seriously think they intentionally planned for the the recruitment of players to be undertaken at the last minute? Do you not think that factors such as dependant transfers, over inflated transfer fee and salary demands may have been influencing factors for Utd and pretty much every other club? Do you not think the squad is stronger than it was in May?

Perhaps you think you're better placed than CW, Paul Mitchell and club negotiators to assess players' value and negotiate transfers and terms instead of them? If so, then maybe you should approach the club to offer your services ahead of the Jan transfer window.

Maybe get some more practice on FM first though :-)

Yes, because he was paying particular interest to that deal. He tweeted about 10 o clock that there was 'still a good chance'

Are you choosing to believe yourself over a respected reporter for whether you like it or not one of the biggest papers in the UK?
