From what I hear about Sammon from the Derby fans I know, we have little to look forwards to, in fact I'm distinctive underwhelmed by the signing of either Sharp, Woolford or Sammon.

Not often I agree with Brownie but I feel exactly the same - Yesterday I thought Woolford was woeful, Sammon distinctly average and my view of Sharp is that he offers the following deal :-50% offside and 50% 'on his arse' plus the odd goal now and again !

Well assuming that when he's offside his goals are disallowed, then he must be some player if he can score the 'odd goal now and again' from on his arse.

Even Messi doesn't do that.

I'm doing my very best to suspend my concerns about Sharp and Sammon, but the one real worry I have is that these two get prominence over already signed players like Done or Adams. It could all be a case of nothingness, and I wish anyone who's signed to us to do well, but any manager who has made it clear that they want a player signed would presumably want 'their' signings to play, even if it's at the expense over other players development. Just a thought. I don't want to see good players with potential go out on loan, but that could be the case with Adams or McNulty. As for Diego, he may well be asked to get his ordnance survey map out and familiarise himself with lower league clubs, which I doubt he imagined when re-signing to the Blades.

Having seen glimpses of him on the telly and the bit we saw yesterday I can't see that he offers any more than Higdon ! except perhaps he does not pick up as many 'injuries' !

Sammon - I thought he looked a useful acquisition on Sunday. A huge bloke, but his touch looked fine to me and he and Done certainly closed down from the front very effectively.
My companion on Sunday (a Premier league scout ) saw Sammon play several times last season at both Ipswich & Rotherham and was always impressed with his workrate, commitment and ability to change things when he appeared as substitute.
I fail to understand why anyone can have a negative view on his signing at this stage.

My uncle is a season ticket holder at Derby, he says don't expect too many goals from him but he works hard and he enables those around him to score. As long as that's what we expect from him then I think he'll do a job for us. Adkins knows what he's doing

I actually like a big man up front (careful now) and I don't like playing with a lone striker, certainly not at this level. I have advocated COG long and hard. Sammon seems to have some of the same qualities, though maybe not a good first, or even second, touch. On the other hand it seems his work ethic is beyond question and he won't permit any cigar smoking or slipper-wearing by the centre-back [McNulty please note...] and he does, contrary to some suggestions on here, have a bit of pace.

What I do hate is when teams use a "target man" as an excuse to lump it up front to the big guy and "play" from there. It doesn't have to be that way.

On a lighter note I thought he looked good from the little we saw of him. Controlled the ball well and set up decent chances and positions. His touch led to the rugby tackle on the edge of the box and Morgs's free kick.
