Deluded Steve Cooper

For me Cooper has proven he can make a team playing decent footy.
Swansea played decent footy without really threatening the top 6. At Forest he was able to galvanise a squad that should have been doing better and really got them on a roll.

BUT I'll be really interested to see his next few steps as manager.

In the matches we've played against them (Whilst he's been manager) it's not been quite how he has seen it in my eyes.
He usually says they should have won or "played the better football" when in fact it was either a more balanced game or we were better (In particular that 2nd leg Playoff. We really outplayed them like they had to us in the 1st leg.)

As for Nuno..... hmmm I dunno. He did well at Wolves with alot of resources for the Championship and then PL. At spurs not so much.
I'd not be totally satisfied he's the right one if I was a Forest fan.

At Wolves, we saw at close quarters Nuno had the luxury of building a team in the Championship that was capable of competing in the Premier league, and that is largely what they did. It will be very hard for him to replicate any of that in Nottingham.
As for Cooper he (like CW with us) has allied himself so deeply with Forest, that he will find it equally difficult to do the same anywhere else…Most managers throughout their careers ultimately end up being one hit wonders

It is all about luck. SC had no link to us before so the bond was brought about by success on the pitch but underpinned by him as a person. You would still find 90%+ of our fans would have kept steve even of we were relegated. That can only come about if the respect is there for the person.

I don't think he will 'replicate' it but if he and another team get lucky with some results, they will certainly forge something because of his way.

Really he would be a good fit at side with a vision longer than the next transfer window. Not always easy to find these days though

He’d be fine at Bramall Lane as long he understood that the next transfer window probably means signing 3rd rate Europeans and offering new contracts to has beens.

I was reading an article on the Athletic about Cooper's sacking and it does read like the owner is an absolute crackpot. There was something about the owner and his son giving Cooper debriefs over where he went wrong after games. The son in particular rings a few alarm bells. Apparently he is the de facto sporting director and has placed himself in charge of target tracking and agent comms. He has put pictures of himself up around the ground and taken it upon himself to give the squad a motivational speech after their Fulham pasting.
More than whiff of the chansiri (with the obvious difference being they have a pot to piss in).

Get the feeling his next job or two might entail a Wilderesque fall from grace, from which he will probably emerge (again Wilderesque) a more versatile manager.

He's taken 2 very strong Championship squads and produced 2 very good Championship teams.

Forest in the Premier League have been a basket case and certainly it's been a difficult task but when you work for an owner like that who gives you players (in huge numbers) then you figure out how to get them playing together and you especially figure out who's on the most money/cost the biggest fee and you build your team philosophy around that. He couldn't do it and just wanted to create versions of the Championship team he built.

Because of that I'd say he's definitely not shown the versatility required to be a lock to be a successful PL manager elsewhere. If he gets another PL job now I think that's more linked to his positive media coverage based on his time in the England set up then his performance since the TSC's went up. But he should very much be the next taxi off the rank for any of the top Championship jobs.

Side note but it's a shame for Heckingbottom because this puts him even further back in the pecking order for another job (if that's what he wants)

Another lower league wonder given money that’s been spunked up nearest wall.

In his defence the players are still worth more than a handful of beans

I read that article. It ties the son in very much with the image of dealing with players and clubs that forest otherwise wouldn't be. EM's son was nowhere to be seen when signing sam surridge but as soon as the photo op with jesse lingard came round or signing a player from bayern munich he was front and centre. The fact Richards came with a broken leg and has played no football for us points to be a sucker at the big boys table.

I think cooper should take his time in choosing his next appointment. He is still fairly inexperienced in management. The question for him (and a lot of British managers) is how do you crack the bit where you get a really diverse dressing room with players with real credentials and egos to buy in.

I’m not sure he’s spunked that much of it. He signed MGW, a good signing. The majority of the rest seem like vanity signings by the chairman.
I agree entirely. I was willing to believe Cooper was maybe a bit like Wilder in that his judgement with regard signing swent to pieces once he had a bit of cash to splash around. However the more I read about Forest's chairman and moreover his son, the more it sounds like a disaster slowly unfolding.

You've got the 24 year old son of the chairman who has put himself in charge of transfers, both identifying targets and dealing with the agents. Daddy pays for the great deals the son has negotiated. The pair of them then apparently both call Cooper up to berate him for not playing how they think he should and getting a tune out of a squad he has had little say in putting together. The club sounds like it's fast becoming a toy for the chairman's kid. If all that is true, it's hard to imagine any manager doing well.

I'd normally have sympathy for the fans of a club in that kind of predicament. But it's forest so though I'm somewhat sympathetic, I'm also pissing myself.

I have no sympathy for Forest fans, they were giving it the big un when they signed Henderson, MGW and Navas, they can get to fuck!

Part of me would love us to do it though but their story has League 1 and financial oblivion in 10 years written all over it. That said at least they had Navas on loan 🤣

That's about right according to my life long Forest in the know mate = Cooper had little input in actual player recruitment, other than MGW

Forest fans are moaning that a striker would've saved Copper at Forest despite the fact they normally have 2 on the bench, one earning £100K a week and the other £80K. I like Cooper, he seems like a genuine guy, much like Hecky.

I know you've seen your share of disinterested strikers but christ origi is up there.

I thought chris wood was about 36 but turns out he's just turned 32. Tells you a bit about his mobility.

Crazy money for the pair

Ha! Origi is a real nearlyman who has made fortune being just that. Either would be nailed on starters at Bramall Lane.

Origi looks like he beat Mousset on the run to the chip shop and then back via the kebab house with a bag of doughnuts to celebrate

I think you would be hard pushed to find a Blade who doesn't despise Forest. I certainly do. I wish them eternal damnation along with our beloved neighbours from S6. I even prefer dirty Leeds.

I dislike Forest but got nowt against Cooper tbh. If you'd have told me he was taking over from Hecky I wouldn't have been disappointed. Can't recall the post but someone above compared him to Wilder and I think they're right, his next appointment and how he performs is crucial. Like Cooper, Wilder seemed to be the darling at the time with pundits as the underdog manager knocking results out against prem sides so his ego was huge and he fell quite hard from grace. Cooper needs to avoid that.

I’d happily try a “crackpot” owner for a few seasons. All my adult life supporting United, I’ve been told by the various owners of this club to temper my expectations, as we haven’t got the proverbial pot to piss in…Well, we all laughed at Florist making so many outlandish signings when they first got promoted…but deep down we all felt a little bit jealous, because we knew what our pitiful response would be if we actually got promoted…Sadly, we’ve exceeded all expectations on that one.
