I hear a lot of fellow blades fans referring to Wednesday fans as being under the influence of deludamol, yet I see posts on here about us being in the top 6 and pushing for Europe , let's be honest we were doing well and riding the crest of a wave pre covid break , however there is a reason that the nucleus of our side has never played above championship level and that is consistency

We are a championship side that has had an incredible season but to think there is a possibility of us reaching the top 6 or as some were saying champions league is beyond deluded ,

In our squad we have Egan, O' connell and Henderson that have the quality and consistency to play premier league football the rest are making up numbers

If we were relegated not one of the other players would be signed and become a regular premier league starter , unless it was for a newly promoted club with a massively restricted budget like ourselves

So I think we need to get some perspective realise we have had a great ride but also realise that next season with another year in their legs the likes of Basham, Sharp, Stevens, mcgoldrick , cannot start matches in this league and their replacements currently are not good enough, if you consistently but championship players then that is what you become

Our recruitment this season has been poor , mcburnje 4 goals, Robinson currently on loan at WBA, mousset a Maverick but never fit, Berge at the moment is a disruption to the squad and balance of the team, J Robinson not good enough, Osborn not good enough, Ravel failed gamble, jagielka past his best,

So when Henderson goes back in the summer , and we look at the 40-50 million we have spent, will that team be any better than the team that was promoted , ?

And if so where are the improvements ?

We blamed Warnock for wasting a transfer window in January 2007 that cost us our premier league place ,

We need to ensure we get it right this next window because this current squad has no pace, no depth and absolutely no creativity

Fuck off bitter piggy.

Even pundits were backing us for top 6. We were playing great football.

Telling me Fleck, baldock aren't prem class? Basham has near 100 games in the prem.

Stupid post. I've edited twice now because this post has pissed me off so much. We're newly promoted from the championship so what's your point exactly??

You can tell Wednesday have won one. Any team that is in the European places after the three quarter mark in a season is a realistic contender. The opening post was written innumerable times by Wednesday fans last season and the previous season: the bubble bursting, the step up in level unbridgeable, reality check etc.

January signings aside, United's recruitment was about filling the squad with young, hungry players that wouldn't break the bank, were saleable, and could grow with the club regardless of division. This was a necessity after the club had invested very little in the squad over Wilder's tenure, resulting in an ageing, threadbare squad that had to be addressed. The fees paid for Callum Robinson, Freeman and Osborn were well under their real value due to their (favourable, for us) individual contractual situations. On that basis alone, only the hard of thinking would believe theses signings not to be sound business. (For reference: We paid around 50% of Wednesday's expenditure on Rhodes on each player). We were spending half a Rhodes or a Reach level sum on proven elite Championship players that would (at worst) result in us getting promoted next season if we went down. Our squad all have big wage drops in their contracts too, and no doubt hefty promotion bonuses in the event we did/do go down, (see the promotion season bonus's); so, really, this was a very sound strategy. We've outperformed massively which explains a lot about the inability of these players to break in: Freeman and Osborn have been excellent when they have played, and look a snip at the prices paid. C Robinson doesn't look like he fits in our system, but still looks the bees knees coming in off the left in the Championship for WBA. He's probably worth double our money, so, again, this was a prudent bit of business. If we change system slightly his United career could turn around. As for Jags: one year and then we can move him on. No wage would've followed us into the Championship if we'd gone down. Prudent financial management, unlike that seen in S6; the same with Henderson. J Robinson has been an excellent acquisition: he'll be on peanuts, cost peanuts and would be top drawer in the Championship base on his performances thus far.
Moussett represented a worthwhile gamble, and he's more than paid his fee back already. He has the potential to really kick on. If he doesn't he was a good buy anyway. The fact the opening poster put Stevens and Basham on his not good enough list is laughable, but the omission of Baldock from the list of premier league players takes the biscuit. He's only been one of the best RWB in the country this season.
It is really naive of anybody to judge these new acquisitions after one year anyway. When they came in, the younger ones were highlighted by Wilder as development projects. You only have to look at how many of our other players have been transformed by Wilder, Knill and the fitness staff, when they've previously had a pre season or two to work with them and develop them tactically, technically and physically. It's a brave/foolish man that would bet against this happening again with some of them. Next season would be the first season at Bramall Lane when we haven't seen huge improvements in individuals, if that was the eventuality. Wilder marked people's cards re Berge only days ago. The question I'd ask the opening poster is this: why are players on the books (particularly new signings) not going to improve next season when it has happened in all Wilder's previous seasons?

If the opening poster is one of the number of Wednesday fans that have come on here in the last week, I hope he has learnt something about prudent financial management and building an affordable squad from my riposte.

I don’t see how it is unrealistic to think you might finish 6th when you’re 7th with a game in hand.

It is unrealistic to think you’ll have a late dart at the play offs when you’ve spent the past few months in the bottom half and have won about 2 of the last 10 and face a potential double figure points penalty.

Agree United face some squad challenges. If we do nothing then I also think we will struggle. But we won’t be alone. Despite their decent restart, Burnley are struggling to keep players they want to retain, nevermind players they want to further invest in.

Hi pig
Enjoy relegation when that 21 point deduction kicks in

I really don't understand why a Wednesday fan comes into a United board, pretends to be a Blade and posts this kind of drivel.

It is so transparent that it just makes them look stupid. I suppose with most years in schools being shutdown they must be getting very bored and are having to find things to do.

I suppose if a riposte is needed, I would far rather have our squad problems than the threadbare FFP squad problems of the truffle hunters.

Of course I'd have to be a pig because my opinion that we currently have a side with no pace , or creativity can't possibly be true , and that all the signings we have made havent actually improved the squad , it's easier to say oh he's a pig , rather than think actually does he have a valid point, and alnidr

I am not a Sheffield Wednesday fan I've been going to bramall lane since 1986, and whilst I can't disagree with your point about being 7th with a game in hand is a valid argument to think we might have a chance at finishing 6 , is it not also a valid argument to be slightly worried for next season with a team that has lost 4 on the bounce , has no pace in the side, has no permanent goalkeeper that is premier league quality and

I posted a thread elsewhere as to whether the current team would struggle next season. I share your concerns. Right now there are at least 12 worse teams than us who all will have had similar COVID related impacts on the budget.

The gamble we may have to take is that we retain a good injury record. I'd rather we make one key addition up front which improves us than several improved benchwarmers with no uptick in the XI.

The good thing is that we have a number of players who will become better through experience as they are quite young ie. Egan, O'Connell, Baldock, Lundstram, Berge, McBurnie, Mousset.

I also think we have a decent chance of getting Hendo back as Man U appear to have boxed themselves in a little - don't want to offload DDG, won't put DDG in the reserves at 350k per week, won't have many takers with vacancies, don't want to sell Hendo to Spurs or Chelsea, want him to play and know he won't come back just to play in the reserves. So their options are loan him to us, loan him to an overseas team, loan him to another PL team like Leeds for instance. We must be in with a reasonable shout given our history with him.

It depends how near too 100 you call 52 premier league appearances by your maths we are close 90 points in a season

This reminds me of that post where a 'United fan' evaluated the Wednesday players after a derby spending time putting a few sentences on each player, fucked up when he referred to Okocha as 'Jay Jay'. And here we are today, it's the very same style.

Opening gambit says it all, not many of us refer to Wednesday as such on here (I do but very few others) but I'd always make sure it was the 'Blades'.

Quite, no “Blades fan” would refer to him/herself as a “Blades fan”, Unitedite possibly, or most likely Blade.

As for “Wednesday” the word needs at least one * as it’s a dirty word, but the use of pig, oinker, truffle shuffler, pork would all be more credible than “W*dnesday fan”.

For me though, the real giveaway is the Deludamol reference, coined by us, about them and no self respecting Blade would use it about us, or ever describe anything about his/her fellow fans as “beyond deluded”, particularly to describe something achievable, albeit improbable, like a place in Europe.

Slightly worried/spouting bullshit in every direction. You've taken some valid concerns and expanded it into "we are a championship team who have just got a bit lucky"

You're either a Pig or a WUM. Either way it's dull, dull stuff
