As a slight aside, when the media talk about the National, they often bring up Esha Ness and the National that never was in 1993. Unfortunately, for me, that always stirs up memories of a much worse sporting event on that day........................

Remember listening to it not happening just as we got back on the coach afterwards (if my memory isn't deceiving me). Presumably the match didn't kick off at 3pm or my memory definitely is deceiving me.

Yeah, I watched it in a pub somewhere near Euston station so the game must have been an early kick-off, as you say, the brain is maybe intentially masking the day somewhat :)

I'm a massive racing fan, but not that keen on the national. I know it's the 'people's race' etc etc, and perhaps it's sports snobbery but Cheltenham is the pinnacle, that's where the elite stuff is.
Of course Cheltenham is the Pinnacle, but I would hope you might embrace The National as the wonderful jumps handicap that it is. It is a popular institution, a race for dreams, a race for fabulous stories,(and occasionally sad ones), and being a jumps handicap with 40 runners over 4 1/4 miles, an enticing and potentially very profitable betting opportunity.

I dont think i couldve had a worse grand national. My big hope went at the 1st, McCoy tip went at the last & my other came Dead last

Vicente being brought down at the first was a big blow. I really, really fancied a big run from him. Perfect profile for the race, which is why Trevor Hemmings bought him I suppose - a name forever synonymous with the Grand National.

The other two did complete. 10th and 16th. When only 19/40 get around, you need to understand that's not a dreadful result. The race is incredibly hard to find the winner, it's difficult to even find one to get around the course, you need so much luck, but I'm profitable in the race since I had my first bet on it in 2003.

I'm sorry to anyone who followed me in this year and lost money, but if you want to have a go on your own next time, go for it and see how easy it is. Should have followed me last year when all three picks got around, one placed and one won

I bet you were a financial advisor in a former life!
