Defensive Crisis

This'll be a crisis prior to the visit of Crewe then ?

He can either play McGahey, Basham and McEveley as we have been recently or go back to a back 4 with Brayford 'dropping back'.

They may get contracts elsware but none trying players will be sussed and will not find it easy to pull in a well paid deal.Ime sure Adkins has got enough experience to suss out any none tryers and not play them.
Yes they will. Managers know players play crap when they're not motivated. Look at some of the shit Warnock signed.

Still not bothered about Collins not being here even with Edgar and Baptiste absent. Happy for Tel, Harrison or someone younger like Semple or Adebowale to get a shirt. This season’s over and I’d rather save the few quid wages towards next season’s budget. Do we still have Banton or has he been released? Not seen his name in the U21s for a while?

Banton has just joined Alfreton on loan.

Law gave new loan signing Julian Banton a start at the heart of the defence, with Tom Allan moving to the bench, while Andi Thanoj replaced Cecil Nyoni in midfield.

Banton looked strong at centre-half, before playing most of the second half at right-back after Allan had replaced Joe Doyle in the 48th minute – an impressive debut by the Sheffield United loanee.

From the title of this thread I assumed that we had no defensive injuries and Collins had been refused a work permit.

Being documented we are now short of Centre Backs (Deja Vu) due to the injury to Baptiste and Edgar's International Duty.
An article in the star quotes Adkins saying we have Harrison McGahey, and that Brayford and Whiteman 'can play centre half' but we've got a week to bring someone in if needs be.

I found it a bit odd he doesn't mention Kennedy at all... is he injured again? Or simply deemed not good enough for Adkins team?

We've had a defensive crisis ever since Maguire left and we than needed two CH's instead of another CH to play with him !!

Its not been addressed in 2 years ...... why rush at it .....

Same as the problems at GK, CM, Wide Mid , CF .........

Pipped me to it
It's hardly going to make a difference to our season is it?
Might as well give the lad Kelly a go. Good experience for him without any pressure

It's quite hard to find decent centre halves at this level unless you're prepared to pay for them.
It sounds a bit facile but where do you find them?
Either one on the way down, probably from the championship and out of contract - not always available and a risk that they might be past it.
Buy one from the championship - even harder to find, only a very small number are prepared to drop down a division, even for us.
Buy one from L1 - likely to have to pay as it's quite rare a good one is allowed to run his contract down.
Buy one from below L1 - risky.

I know you can say the same about any position but it seems you can find midfielders and attackers who are good enough to step up and make a fairly good start but a centre half partnership has to feature a leader and organiser and finding one who isn't either close to retirement or just a bang average L1 player is hard and usually involves spending money on a transfer fee. Same with good strikers. That's why we never seem to have both at the same time, in fact quite rarely we have either.

Can Ched play in defence?

Can Ched play in defence?

Frankly ..... after some of the many appalling defensive displays I've witnessed from us this season ....... I would be happy to give the tea lady and one of the ticket office girls a try at CH partnership .......

I doubt they could make a more dreadful f**k up .....

So here we are Monday March 21st and the club suddenly realise that Edgar is on international duty. All those people on the payroll and no one had the foresight to realise this before Collins was shown the door. (And don't tell me he left voluntarily.)

Does anyone at that club truly care?

Are you seriously suggesting that Neill Collins is the answer to a defensive crisis? He'd cause an even bigger crisis! Let Harrison have a go, he can't do no worse than that useless sack of shite. And if we need to give a young 'un a go, let's do that. F**k Neill Collins.

I'd quite like to see Magahey given a last chance to prove he can make it. He's a big fucker and was highly rated when he joined us. If he's tried to sort himself out (as some have said on here) he might just start to fulfil his potential.

When he played previously he was being pushed around and bullied by 9 stone weaklings. Needs to toughen up significantly if he's going to make it in league football.

He has the frame of a decent centre back. Sadly, he also has the mind and attitude of a wet lettuce.

I am fairly certain McGahey and Kennedy will not be here next season. Both are out of contract. Kennedy is a shame but he cannot stay fit and will be moved on. McGahey for me has not shown anything to suggest he will make it. He has a decent frame but as others have said does not dominate play and is very slow. Quite limited ability wise too. I think both of these will not be in professional football this time next year.

If he plays either of them it will be because he has noone else not because he sees any future for them.

He may just play 4-4-2 again or will put Basham, McEveley and maybe Hammond there.

Or maybe Brayford, J-Mac and Basham in a back 3 with Flynn at wingback?

If we bring someone in on loan, I'll be pretty pissed off. Why waste the money?
