When teams park the bus and it is congested in the area it seem like we need something different to mix it up.
So, I know you don't like changing the play too much but how about when the cross is put in and the huge defender heads it out again...
They are not going to head it that far so if you line Fleck Norwood and Duffy up just outside the area and when it drops nicely for them get them to shoot. If they practice their long range shots for this at worst you work the keeper and force him to either catch or tip it over. Or he could fumble and strikers could nip in for a tap in. You could also use the strikers as blockers to stand in front of the goalie and blindsight him for when the shot comes in. P.s. get them to aim for the top corner.
Keep it going Chris
We are going up this year!

You’ve got a coaching badge haven’t you.

I have a badge for swimming is that any good? :-)
I just want to see us batter a goal instead of having 75% possession and less than a handfull of shots and no goals to show for it

He spoke about it on Sky post match. He wants us to get the ball into the box quicker from out wide, to get it into the six yard danger area before the back 4 (8 in Wednesday's case ) have a chance to get settled.

You’ll probably get a bit of a rubbing for such a post, but you have a point. On Friday we did have a few from outside the box though. Fleck and Duffy had shots saved, Norwood over the bar. On a more general note, we do have a tendency to get so comfortable switching the play and overlapping teams to death that the thought of shooting just seems to get lost. Someone likened us to the Arsenal of the Championship in a thread, no idea who or which thread, but it’s right. We can be clinical but also often overplay it.

We also forget that we had a golden chance to take the lead against the pigs and missed, but against Hull we took it and it was 3 points.

I doubt we’ll see a team set up like the pigs again this season. Maybe Bolton or Rovrum, by I think they would still attempt a counter attack. The key in such tight games is how you counter the counter, create the chance and take it.

Dear Chris,

could you remind Leon that we are due a hat trick (or 4) from him soon. :)

We score most of our goals when people play defensive there was a thread a week or so back that explained this so all we really need is the to bring in the right players to score such opportunities we create

We need a number of different options, but through balls can only be played if players are running in behind, crosses can only look dangerous if somebody attacks the ball, shots from distance are only effective if they don't get blocked.

Wing backs hugging the touchline and then having nowhere to go but backwards to start again is a trap we fell into in the 2nd half of last season

Or we could just shoot straight from the kick off.

FFS !

PS. Dear Chris. Change fuck all.

overall we are excellent and full credit to CWAK and co but agree with the OP , a few more shots from distance when it opens up cant hurt
sometimes we do seem to have acres of space for a shot but then choose to play the pass- our mid all have very good shots on them also
Also what CW says, we have to be quicker sometimes delivering the ball into the box , the goals against Wigan show this .
if we could match the football we play most games with the quick through balls/ crosses of the Wigan game we would be on fire !

Also side note, does any one else think it was a bit odd that Fleck didn't take the free kick in the last minute against the filth ? seemed made for a left footer with a belting shot

Only thing I would like see change is not having Washington on the bench especially at home when we know oppo will sit back. We were always more likely to need someone who can make something happen than someone who can chase centre halves for 10 mins if we're 2 nil up. He could have chucked Woodburn on for 15 mins had he had that option. Hindsight a wonderful thing I know.

Which is exactly what is needed so why da fuck hasn't it happened yet notwithstanding most on here knowing that's what is required?
