I couldn't get to the match today but after just listening to Dean Saunders post-match interview he is of the opinion that they have dominated all over!
I'm well chuffed with the result and was just wondering how we played today.

They were definitely the best team 1st half but still Howard had nothing to worry about. I think it was going 1 up which forced them to try and force
the game more. 9 corners to our 0 after 45mins pretty much sums up the first half.

2nd half we should have had 2-3 more than we did and we controlled the game more. Best team won simples.

They did have more possession and I don't think they were bad going forward either. We defended well as a team and our back line really fought for this clean sheet, it was good to see actually.

I love dean Saunders 1 of my favourite players from when I started supporting blades back in 98 but I noticed few yrs ago v donny at keepmoat he Was very blinkered that when listening to the post match interview on radio Sheffield on way home wondered if he been watching the same game as me & seems like he hasn't changed

While the result and performance were good today it must be said that we don't seem to have had a load of possession over the first two league games! Part of that today was of course they we got the ball forward quickly rather than playing it sideways, so, you're bound to lose it a bit more.

On the other hand, Chestefield did seem to be coming through us at will at 1-0 until half time, winning plenty of corners and fashioning a fair few half chances. Thank God we defender better than last week! I think at a bit more steel is needed in the centre of the park, hopefully a fit James Wallace for Baxter could be just the ticket. Today it didn't matter - we were the better team - but I'd like to see us have the lion's share of the ball too.

Most of the game they flattered to deceive. That said, I thought they pressed well at the end and had a couple of good chances.

Generally our defence was solid and well organised so the possession was not dangerous. Lots of corners but in contrast to last week you didn't think they'd score from each one. Good job or it'd've been 9-1 at half time.

Howard made two good saves I think - but they were from dangerous free kicks into the box that missed everyone - one he pushed on to the woodwork.

Adkins has said he wants to see us control the game more, and he's right.

I'd swap Morsey for Baxter

I'd like Morsy and Baxter.

Morsy is more effective as a holding midfielder in a 4-4-2 - tackles, passes, keeps shape and intelligent (how well he dealt with the bouncing ball in the 1v1 with Billy). Baxter is versatile and would be more effective out wide than Scoogs (remember QPR away). He's also finally got himself into shape and put in a good shift today despite being wayward in his distribution. £400k on Morsy would be a good signing for The Blades, or as a straight swap for Scoogs.

Agree with a lot of Saunders.

They were poor at the back, great in midfield and average to poor up front.

The difference for us today, was Sharp/Sammon/Edgar showed they are a class above this division and Adams showed that he has the football world at his feet - but then we all thought that, he has just gone and showed us what we "should" expect on a more regular basis.

Some of us wanted him wide in midfield not up top - we have seen why today. He needs the freedom to run from deep - pace frightens defenders.

To be fair to Adkins - his blueprint is taking shape.

I can understand what Saunders means.

Chesterfield had a lot of the ball, passed it around much better than us, controlled midfield and had more attacks.
They actually looked a nice side but (like us last season under NC) they flattered to deceive.

Today I didn't think we were that great and our passing was quite poor
However the word I'd use for our new style under NA is EFFECTIVE.

Chesterfield crossed loads of balls into our box but rarely looked like scoring.
Our defence and goalie (for a change) seemed calm and in control winning almost all the headers.

Also up front we looked much more of a threat than Chesterfield.
We can certainly play better and we do need to improve but the signs are looking good.

Also we showed much more physicality, grit and steel than any performances under NC.
And to get out of league 1 it's not about playing pretty tippy tippy football
You need players who can mix it, have desire and a winning attitude.
Yeh we showed promise and even Chesterfield fans would admit we deserved to win.

1-0 we turned into a turtle, second half we was by far the more dominant side. Well done Howard for the save onto the bar

After reading this post I decided to have a listen to his interview and to be honest whilst I don't agree that they dominated I do think he has a right to be frustrated because it was a very open game, we were poor in possession at times and we did ride out luck on a couple of occasions.

Our back four stood up today and we have them and Che Adams to thank for the three points. It is a big step in the right direction but that performance still needs a hell of a lot of work. Even at 2-0 with the game still very open we allowed them to play football, we are yet to get that killer instinct back. We need to take games by the scruff of the neck and look to finish games off.

I think Saunders will probably take a good few positives out of that. His midfield I thought were superb and the work rate and desire even at 2-0 was admirable.

A much welcome 3 points none the less but more work needed!

I thought dean Saunders was a white man??? Those sun beds have a lot to answer for or have the sackings left him to spend a penny or two on sunny holidays!!!

When did we ride our luck? The major piece of luck fell in Chesterfield's favour when we had what should have been a goal disallowed.

Good defending has nothing to do with luck, neither does good (or bad) finishing. Luck had no bearing on the game today. It rarely does. The better team usually scores more goals and wins the game.

I found it a bit srange at times. Chesterfield looked more assured passing it around, but rarely threatened. We were infeasably lucky not concede late in the second half when it kept bouncing around and hit the underside of the bar. But everytime we went forward, we seemed to have loads of space and you thought we would score. They cleared two off the line, keeper made a great save from Sharp and probably others I have forgot. I thnk the days of possession stats being meaningful are about over.

I thought Chezzy looked decent. I think Saunders is a good manager, unlucky that Wolves called him in when they were on their arse. Let's not forget he took Doncatraz up when we failed.

At times it looked like we were the away team. They played us high up the pitch, we pushed the full backs on, it made for quite an open game. It was commendable that we went for them from the off at the. Start of both halves. Rewarded each time with a goal from forcing the issue on each occasion. Such positivity (with two up top) bodes well for the home games. However, there were two moments where Howard saved us. I'm on the kop now so both were at the wrong end but both looked like saves that were worth a goal.

I'm positive about what I saw but it was by no means a comfortable 2-0.

We had positive forward running. Che gave their full back a torrid time, scored two good goals, showed a bit of rawness at other times but he's very exciting and will have relieved some pressure from the Murphy sale. Edgar looked solid. The team as a whole threw their bodies on the line for some last ditch blocks.

I left feeling positive but we didn't sweep them aside. If they end up in the top six then that's ok. If they're actually bottom feeders then that's a bit of a worry.

As an aside, it felt like a good atmosphere and a positive one where I was. I've said before, if we can absorb five percent of the manager's optimism and positivity to change the general pessimism of being a blade then we will be a force of nature.

Onward and upward.

We actually had more possession than Gillingham. After an early goal it often happens that the losing team takes over most of the ball as they look to get back in the game.

Think that's a good assessment.

I'd add that midfield is a worry - 3 games in and dominated in that area for 2.5 of those games.

More work on Monday ready for Pterboro - think it will be tweaked for an away game.

Best thing will be how the pigs in charge at Chezzy will be feeling this morning, same as last night, pig sick.

Gutted I couldn't go yesterday, some family do thing..... urgh!
All sounds quite positive and the signing of Edgar and with Howard back in goal seems to have tightened the defence after last week.
Another tough physical 'lump it' side away in midweek. Let's hope for a repeat of last seasons result.
Can't wait to go to my first game!

BBC has it 44% blades - 56% Chessie
They had more shots but fewer on target
We played well but conceded possession far too easily for the home team

When you go 1-0 up so early the other team generally will come at you more.
