Perhaps it's just me, but I like to see our ex players doing well at their respective clubs, regardless of it being Forest or anyone else. I think it reflects well on our development of them.

Isn't it about time the scab stuff stopped now, it was nearly 40 years ago ffs.
It's like the Wendies still harping on about Boxing Day 1979.
Can someone tell me why we sing the song because of boxing day.
I never understand why we help piggies remember it.

That something happened 40 years ago doesn't mean its impact can't still be felt today.

Lets hope this summer of strikes ends more positively.

Genuine question : When is it appropriate that we can move on?
Besides we're talking about chanting and name calling at football matches and on forums, which has F all to do with what happened to the mining industry in the 80's.
Someone supports Forest, therefore they are a scab? Come on, there's probably very few of their fans left who were even involved in it.

Out of those I’d say it’s between Pickford and Henderson for the number one spot. Pickford makes errors for Everton but he’s been solid for England. I’m still not convinced by Ramsdale and think he will eventually be found out at Arsenal.
To be fair I don’t think he makes that many errors for Everton, it’s a bit of a media myth. Like Ramsdale for us and Bournemouth, he is constantly called into action due to the terrible lot in front of him, and was their player of the season last season.
I don’t see any reason for Southgate to risk dropping him for less experienced keepers unless his form really took a nosedive, as much as I like both Henderson and Ramsdale.

First time I’ve watched their new team yesterday. They’re one half electric and one half Stone Age. Could hit 5 or concede 6.

They’ll be good for Sky I think, one way or another.

Agree.

The bit I found weird was that all the pundits commented how well Forest played. They dominated midfield and had a lot of attacks but created little.

Whereas Spurs missed a penalty and one or two really good chances.

It could have easily been a 0-4 home defeat against a team having an off day.

Think that’s a concern.
Also as we’ve seen confidence plays a massive role, lose a few and Forest could be another Norwich playing some nice football but far too open.

It’s a reminder of if we lower our guard and stop dominating Sheffield football then that scenario could happen again.

I’ve been around watching football since the mid 70’s and there’s been 2 really significant events, a sliding doors moment.

1: The Boxing Day 1979 match.
United had been dominant for 9 years with Wednesday at their lowest ebb in their history and seen as a bit of a joke. United went down to the 3rd tier for the 1st time ever and we were seen as the glamour club with bigger crowds home and away before Xmas. SU were top of the league and very confident going to Hillsboro. Losing 0-4 was a massive shock and Blades walked round in a daze for weeks. We hardly won a match in the 2nd half of the season where as SW went on to gain promotion.

2: The Mark Duffy bounce slayer match.
United had just spent 6 years in shitty league 1 whereas SW were splashing the cash expecting promotion. Wilders team had started well in the new league but Wednesday fans were smugly saying, just wait until you play us. As usual they were very confident/ arrogant. However on the day we outplayed them and the 2-4 score line doesn’t do our dominance justice.
After that game Wednesday fans were walking around in a daze for weeks not believing how good we were. They struggled the rest of the season whereas Blades were walking around with permanent smiles sensing the tide had turned regards who were the top dogs in Sheffield.

He's going to be very busy

Thanks for your view I was at the piggies ground that day and I feel the same as after the match I would rather forget it

People will probably move on when the impact of the event is no longer felt. That clearly isn't the case now, even for those not born at the time (I'm 27).

The chant is about what happened during the strikes in the 80s, and chanting it helps to retain a collective memory about the event.

You are right, most people in the stands at the City Ground won't be scabs, but the same can be said for hundreds of other chants that aren't literally true: "town full of smackheads", "your mother is your sister", "United hate fucking cockneys", "McBurnie scores, we're on the pitch" etc.

That's right but actually in both cases, it went further than that.

After the Boxing Day game, Wednesday went on to win promotion, appear in an FA Cup Semi Final and shortly after promotion to the top tier, regularly beating the top sides and more than holding their own, while we went on to relegation to Div 4 and years of financial problems.

After the 4-2 game, we all know that we went on to play in the Premier League, buying and selling players for over £20m, while they've had their own financial problems and slipped back into League One. We're now well ahead of them in every respect, but experience tells us, it's not likely to last.

Exactly

Agree...thats why I said they were really significant.
I meant to say probably the 2 most significant matches in each clubs recent history.

A changing of the guard where both clubs fortunes went in totally opposite directions, almost based on 1 single match.

SW were an embarrassment in the mid to late 70's, regular sub 10K crowds and almost relegated to div 4.
They beat us 4-0 when we were favourites to win being top of the league at the time.
They quickly rose up the table into div 1 where as we very quickly ended up (for 1 season) in div 4.

I would have Pope as the nr 1 and then Henderson as nr 2. Southgate is loyal though so expect Pickford in goal and Harry in defence

Some of these comments are becoming far too balanced and moderate. Shame on you

I never understand why we help piggies remember it.
I understand why United sing it. I don't understand why Wednesday sing it though.

We sing it for redemption.
"We will fight for ever more, because of boxing day".
We're saying we will overturn it one day and get our own back.

Why do pigs need to fight because of it? They won the battle.

Probably fucked his back up though, picking the ball out of the net so often.
I quite like Henderson, personally I feel he should have stayed with us instead of the path he chose but hey ho.

I still feel smug about it though. It must highlight a difference in defence quality between PL us and PL Forrest. Deano had to save our skin a few times but he never had to deal with that kind of assault.

I was saying this other day with Bournemouth.
Then you look at Leeds and Southampton and Norwich etc. They all get smashed at least once per season. We didn't get smashed. I think we only conceded 4 goals once in 2 seasons up there.

Doesn't mean anything though. It's the wins column and points column that matters most at the end of the season.
Losing by 1 goal is still losing.

I’m assuming they sang it first too. Boney M stole it from them.

Leicester hit us for 5 when we were in a coma thanks to Wilder
