I thought mr hammond had his best performance in a blades shirt yesterday but was still hauled off to jeers.I hate slating individuals continually who wear the red and white but surely adkins sees that he is slow and is found wanting most times hence the constant fouling........coming from a premier team( albeit sparsely used)he should be a stand out but is barely holding his own.
I do see improvement a lately but not enough to hope he goes back, not as good as doyle on a bad day..................

When you watch him closely he covers a hell of a lot of ground.
Just a shame he's a yellow card waiting to happen every game

I was surprised how well he played alongside Reed and Flynn, I doubt many had high hopes for that three before the game, but they did rather well.
Hammond as a overall player I don't rate, it is very annoying to see him get a free place in the team. He always gets booked and to be honest he should have been sent of a few times for consistent fouls.
He can have his decent games but to say he could be our highest earner, a player who has dropped down from the top league, he simply isn't very good.

It will be interesting to see how we play without him in the next two games. I think he now has 10 bookings and will therefore be suspended.

I thought he might improve but it looks like his legs have gone.

According to the Football League Paper report he was picked out as the Star Man yesterday!!!

I be thinking most would say a few choice words to the reporter about him (the reporters name is amusingly Stephen Chicken) to set the record straight

I think this could work out well for us in the short term. I'm hoping Coutts gets a chance in there with Reed and Cuvelier supporting, here's hoping. I was expecting a lot more from Hammond overall and i can't believe he's any better than Dimaio.

He was very good yesterday, covered loads of ground, tackled from the front and linked up well with attack. As some have already mentioned though, minds have already been made up in certain quarters and no matter what he now does in a Blades shirt he will always be gash in their minds.
Jeering your own players off the pitch is truly special behaviour that should be reserved for only the most extreme of circumstances. Those responsible for yesterday's little chorus can f**k right off as far as I am concerned.

I expected him to pick up his form this year. But it does seem we've found another ageing footballer who cannot manage his failing legs. Which is a shame, because I think he'd have been a super player for us in the recent past.

The guy is reaching the end of his football career and has the failing leg syndrome . I think it's 100% certain Adkins will have Hammond as a perminant signing in the summer. It's not his technical aspect that Adkins is looking at , he sees this bloke as a assett from a experience , expertise point of view both on and off the field. If Hammond had players around him with pace , agility , youth , then the technical / pace side of him would improve with the first 6 yards being in his head.
Get the recruitment right in the summer and Hammond like the blades will flourish . Cock it up and he will look like a pile of bad buy / loan shit in the Higdon , Sammon , class of failures.

Hammond is at the Lane for a reason . Adkins intends to build a side round him , with Brayford ( if he stops ) , and Billy . Let's give him a chance and the benefit of doubt , like we are doing with the football buck stops with me manager Adkins.

Played well, the system suited him.
Found pockets of space, and passed it neatly.

Suspended now for Rochdale & Burton, so probably Basham will be in there Sat, if Collins is fit.

I can't believe how little he offers us from a technical point of view.

I just hope they don't allow Adkins to sign him permanently.

Dean Hammond, Jeff King ,Vinny Jones, Trevor Hockey,Nobby Stiles etc etc are not there for a technical point of view. They are there to hunt down the opposition players. Bookings frequently happen. Their called ball winning midfielders and rarely wander from their patch.
Hockey could be sent off in minutes. Some you win some you lose. Wish we had him now.

I think Coutts and I wonder if he has rested Coutts knowing this suspension was on its way ?

It looks as though his legs have gone/are going, his booking Saturday looked like a challenge he could have made a year or two ago.

He also found space at the back post and was a goal line clearance away from scoring with a decent header.

I disagree with booing players off, at least our own and didn't hear any in the South Stand.

There should be a law where you aren't allowed to boo, jeer or turn your nose up at any players if the team is winning. No matter how much you don't like a player, you can't do more than get 3 points. I don't think he's done that bad, it's more that he came in as a billy big bollocks premier league player presumably on top wages and he doesn't really look any better than Michael Doyle. He's obviously better suited to 3 in midfield, because he offers nothing going forward. That's why i've never liked 4-4-2. If you have attack minded midfielders, your defence is constantly under pressure. If you have defensive minded midfielders, you struggle to create chances. Especially if you don't have any wingers.

Considering the wages he's on, the career he's had and the division we're in, I expected him to be able to contribute positively when we do have the ball, even if his main job is defensive.

The key to 4-4-2 is to have good midfielders. We don't have any.

We do have a winger, but Adkins won't give him a run like, say, Woolford has had.

Jeers? What Jeers?

A handful of muted ones (just like the few when he received his booking leading to the suspension). And maybe some of the clapping was ironic (but how to judge?).

All I remember though is him getting applauded off on Saturday after he'd put a shift in. And him applauding back appreciatively.

He had a good game - whether it was the system or an injection of self-motivation, I don't know, but he contributed well and had an impact at the front of the field, too.

Discounting yesterday's good all-round performance, if his key role is a "ball-winning midfielder" as is suggested, he under-achieves in that duty. It's pretty easy to measure - simply count the times he dispossesses the opposition. It isn't very often.

With yesterday in mind, I left The Lane wondering how many times we'd be able to play that system before the opposition find us out. Time will tell, I suppose.

Exactly the type of player we should not be signing, high wages, slow, too old, no re-sale value, get rid.

How much is he really on though? He signed for Leicester when they were in the championship. He extended his contract last year but generally an extension means the wage stays the same.
So he's on championship wages at Leicester and I doubt we're paying all of it.
Bottom line is if NA wants to keep him, we offer him a contract on L1 money. If he can get better in the championship, let him do so.

Most if not all players get a wage increase if they achieve promotion, I can't see this being any different in Hammonds case, I could be wrong but I highly doubt it.

Although Hammond had a better game against a very poor Port Vale side it doesn't change the fact that his legs have gone and that's not going to get any better.

It seems there will be very little money available for transfers in the summer so I hope we don't waste any we may have on a player who is clearly past his best and on a downward spiral.

A little off topic I know but I wouldn't be sad to see Brayford sold for what we paid in the summer. Don't get me wrong he's a good RB and gives the fans something to cheer about but id much rather us spend 1.5m/2m on good CB's/CM's and have an average right back than the other way around.

Hammond was on £22 at Leicester ,I do know this for a fact, this is why it took so long for mal brannigan to do a deal, I don't know what the deal is but brannigan did a great job in getting him when everyone thought it was beyond us.

....And selling our best players for new signings has always worked well previously!:p
