We absolutely weren’t dire for an hour against Oxford, we had a slow first 15-20 minutes. Cooper dropping a clanger doesn’t mean we were poor for an hour.Oxford we were dire for an hour Boro we chased shadows for an hour
Today was Southampton WBA levels of structure fluidity abd technical know how
On another day we lose that 4 -1 at times are defending was concord park on a Sunday morning
Said the sameMuch of the game these days is about ‘patterns of play’. We got that in spades under Wilder mk1 and it seemed that we were getting back to this a few months ago - players were much closer to each other, opening passing lanes with little bits of movement and shifting opposition midfields around. This, for whatever reason, seems to have gone out of the window.
I’ve lost count of the number of times we cough the ball up under the smallest bit of pressure from an opposition striker or we just lump it up field because there’s nobody within 20 yards of whoever has the ball.
On the flip side, we are unbelievably easy to pass through. Whenever we try to put an opposition midfield under pressure, they seem to have an extra man to just pop the ball to in a yard or 2 of space and they’ve bypassed us completely. We’re very frustrating to watch at the minute and it seems a relatively simple tweak to make things click again.
I do wonder however just how much we’re missing Jairo in the middle. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that our best run of performances started when he came into the side and ended when he got injured.
Maybe the pitch had something to do to do with wayward passing ?
True. Better to get a local vet , quicker and cheaper.Driving to Pompey wouldn’t have been ideal for a calf injury.
Soumare did one bonkers one, where he passed sideways straight to Pompey player, no Utd player in sight.Maybe the pitch had something to do to do with wayward passing ?
In my opinion our quality of passing has not been good for a few years.Perhaps but they seemed to have less issues finding accurate passes. Maybe they are used to it?
400 passes to 300
73% accuracy to 60%
Successful final third balls 75 to 25
I would say the issue over ball retention has happened in many of our recent away games- Millwall was better actually- though, so wasn't unique to yesterday. We end up pumping it long and trying to feed off Bamford. It's odd when we have a number of good technical players but even O Hare and Hamer are very sloppy either basic passes at tines.
Maybe he was feeling blue at the time.Soumare did one bonkers one, where he passed sideways straight to Pompey player, no Utd player in sight.
