Interesting to see the Ref asking for the penalty being verified by video replay, and it took all of 30 seconds. I really think it should be introduced in all games now.
I think FIFA and or the PL are worried about legal challenges.
Normally referees decision is final (no matter if he made a mistake)
Would people accept that the video replay assistant decision is final (even if he makes a mistake).
You see a few occasions where after watching constant repays the panel on Match of Day can't agree if it was a penalty or not. Some will say the reply showed contact, so it must be a penalty.
Others will say contact was minimal and the player made a meal of it so it's not penalty and the person fouled should have a yellow card, which if it's his second yellow then is sent off by the relay assistant.
It might a game which means a team is relegated.
Would that video relay assistant be expected to reveal his identity?
Would the video assistant be forced to explain their decision?
Would the assistant need to be a former player with playing experience?
Basically some decisions are totally subjective, the video replays helps but can't give the correct answer to every situation. Would there be legal action taken against a video assistant that arguably gets it wrong.
Personally if we accept that the video assistant replays are an aid and not perfect, so some mistakes may still happen then it's a great idea. At least most decisions will be correct and players are less likely to cheat.
