I agree Booker but........... you say he was on the fringes and bench for SUFC, League 1

He is now on the fringes and bench for Everton, Premier League

Add a longer contract on more money, how on earth can you say its not a great move for the lad.

Dare i say SUFC means more to you than it did DCL ?

DCL is a Blade so SUFC will mean a lot to him. He's also a professional footballer so will know that he and his career have to come first. Everton is a great move for him and he'd have been mad to turn it down once they'd met our asking price.

And this is why us mere mortals sometimes can't grasp that it is the lads career that the boy has to think about.

Life would be fantastic if SUFC was a premiership club year on year, but we are not. This means young players will always be enticed away to wealthier premier league clubs. Once we are a club of that stature can we then play hard ball with our young assets. Unfortunately even now we need to take possibly lower offers than we would like to gain the revenue to move forward.

I don't like it, but it is where we are at present., maybe not for too long though.

Yes mate clearly United does. But that said it is for me to say that I know! I still think its a bad career move, he might be on their bench but there is a world of difference to being on their bench to actually coming on and contributing. Only time will tell I guess!

I guess he looked at Maguire and Lowton, who left us, then looked at Callum MacFadz, Whitehouse, Di Maio, De Girolamo, Ironside and thought staying with us when he's not even getting regular first team football was as big a gamble as leaving, and a lot less profitable. Even Slew has had a career since leaving and is still playing league football.
It would be a different story if he'd have been playing for us this season but that looked unlikely and perhaps we needed the money and pushed him towards the door?

Bwahahahahahahahahahaha!

Ha!

HA!
Laugh as much as you like. It's still true and he's still done a lot better than every player in the FA Youth Cup team except H.

i love that as a comparison to DCL, Chapman wanted to come to this level and get regular first team football, get his boots mucky and learn his trade. He's playing for a bigger club at United than he's come from in Boro, but of course Boro are flying and he decided to get out there. DCL on the other hand, decided he'd be better playing under 23's football. I think Chapman has made the wiser choice.

Isn't that because Chapman was likely to be given opportunities (as Boro wouldn't have loaned him to us if he wasn't) whereas DCL might not have been? DCL isn't going to learn his trade and get mud on his boots sitting on our bench. He's better off playing for Everton's u23s than ours. They have a very solid record of youth development.
And he can always go out on loan, like Chapman has.

He's not gone out yet on loan, maybe he will and as I said before Bush, I'm convinced DCL would have played games this season for us rather than playing in the under 23's and then tweeting he's been selected for the England under 20/s That means bollock all at this age. There's been so many pundits and even footballers who have said that Under 23's football is no where the same as playing competitive football for a club. We'll see what happens but crazy move for me.

I agree that u23s is poor. I'm not a fan at all. But I'm not convinced he'd have played much for us this season. Neither of us know what was discussed between him and Wilder so we can't say whether it was a crazy move or not, if CW told him he wouldn't be used much and he'd prefer him to go to Everton because he needs money to bring players in, it doesn't look so crazy.
And one reason he hasn't gone out on loan yet is because he can't until January at the earliest.

True Bush, we don't know and I'd expect Everton to want to look at him first. I'd be amazed if he plays much this season though, unless he goes on loan which will probably be at League One level.

yeah I was just gonna post that (noticed as I was tweaking players in my FF team!)

Take it back, hes starting but not as a partner for Lukaku, instead hes out on the wing. Be interesting how he gets on in whats seems an unusual position for him.

An unbelievable rise. Really pleased for him, he seemed a happy chappy whenever we saw him in interviews and a good character to have around the place. He didn't seem to have the raw talent of somebody like Che, I imagine this is testament to a cracking work ethic. Hope it goes well for the lad.

We can argue the "did we undersell" point, but we have no idea what constraints Wilder was working under. Maybe he had to shift a couple on to afford the wages / fees of the lads we brought in. At that stage of our promotion battle bringing in the guys we did was more important (Moore, O'Connell, Duffy, Fleck...), I hope the times where we can genuinely resist offers for our youngsters are coming soon.

Hes come off injured after 11 mins. Gutted for him

Good luck to him, I think we got value for money based on what he'd delivered during his first team opportunities.
One thing I would say, is that in the world of young footballers he appears a quite sensible, intelligent lad and very articulate for his age. That is an asset not shared by others who've made similar moves whilst relatively inexperienced and may make all the difference ;)

His sale has part-funded our promotion. He's gone there and got game time too so fair play to him. Hope to see him at the lane in the premiership at some point. Good luck to the lad

Still gutted wth the price we got for him, although I understand the reasons for the sale. He's going to be be some player.

Still think the fee we got was absolute piss poor considering DCL'S potential just hope we added a big sell on clause.

the fee was very poor! Lookman, same age same division 10 mil! RK seems to have an enormous amount of faith and belief in Dom! If we had we'd be £££s in! Played 60 mins not match fit after 10 weeks out, scores!

And people said it was good business, the only reason people were saying that is because we are doing well in the league if that was last season people would not have been saying that.

Yes, but one was a regular with plenty of games under his belt, whereas DCL realistically would have struggled to make the bench. For me the Lookman fee was utterly bonkers at any rate.

Pleased DCL is developing well mind, as I thought given time he'd turn into a successful player.

Personally, I think it was good for him and good for us.

They weren't going to pay much more, as he was an unproven punt at some young talent. If he'd stayed with us he would have got less game time than with them.

I loved seeing a young Blade interviewed on MOTD. It's good for our reputation, and must serve as a really positive example for our current youngsters to aspire to.

Yes , massive bidding war for him . The club did well to get the money they finished up getting .

More bothered what we do , than ex players . He was sold for a reason , that reason to help fund promotion .

Them still in a red and white shirt are the players that count .
