How did the "wonder kid" go last night?

Couldn't tell from the very brief highlights. What kind of role did CW give him?

Had a safe but underwhelming game, like most of the players.
Last night we played OK but all the players seemed to approach it like it was a pre season friendly.

Negatives
He over hit several free kicks and crosses. Think he thought Hanson was 8 foot tall.
Also his passing was hot and cold, some excellent passing but also needlessly gave the ball away.
Also some poor/ naeve decision making at times, trying a difficult/ risky pass when near our goal.

Positives
He showed moments of pure class making the Walsall players look stupid.
One moment in the 1sr half showed a great instant touch, did a body swerve and sent their player the wrong way. Also showed some great bursts of pace when running with the ball.

On 2 or 3 occasions he glided past players as though they weren't there and that is a rare gift. He also plays with a naeve freedom, seems to have loads of time making the game look easier than it is.

Conclusion
6 or 7 out of 10 performance. Like many of the others last night.
But you can see he has a rediculously amount of talent.

The great news for us is that any scouts watching would be reporting back

"Has loads of potential to go far but no where near ready yet.
So don't bother making a bid and let's monitor his progress in the future"

So I doubt they'll be any bid for him and I think
we'll get the chance to see him play more games for Sheffield United FC.

As above, some nice touches but his general play wasn't that good. Best position might be behind a striker, for last ten mins if were losing in a game. Not ready for full ninety mins in the Championship. The manager is handling him about right.

He's going to be an impact sub for the next few months isn't he?

Yes he will be an impact sub, or maybe won't even make the bench at all if Duffy/Carruthers hit form.

For me he's too naive to be playing middle of midfield - has to be in that advanced role for me. We can't afford to be giving the all away as much as he did yesterday against better teams.

Why are people saying he's naive? Of course he is, he's very inexperienced. If there wasn't such a clamour over his performances in Toulon, he'd be out on loan learning the game, like Whiteman is. But the only way we can keep him is to give him some first team football. To do that, we have to accept he's still learning and will make mistakes. He'll have shit games too.

That's why managers prefer players with experience; they're not naive anymore.

IMO, his level of inventiveness is beyond those that started around him last night. He would often receive a ball, lay off a short pass then immediately turn a player and make a run with the intention of receiving the ball, only for the other players to decide to play a more negative option/pass. Not untouchable or faultless, but in terms of creativity and desire to make something happen, he was head and shoulders above his peers last night.

Agree, he seems to have something special.

Also regards his naevity,
it just shows how much confidence he has in his own ability when he's trying a difficult pass near his own area. He doesn't seem particular fast but with the ball he's very explosive over the first 5 yards whilst keeping the ball under control.
Him and Duffy are our best dribblers, Carruthers not far behind and Nathan Thomas showing he has dribbling ability too.

Young lads get caught in possession, lose possession, lose concentration and forget to track back. Brooks is a young lad.

Players who have played 50/60 league games learn how to play the game or they go by the wayside and never play that many.

Little chant for our upcoming gem...

Wilder said he's not for sale, and I was satisfied,
Wednesday want those kind of things that, money just can't buy,
I don't care to, much for money,
Money can't buy you Brooks, can't buy you Brooks,
Money can't buy you Brooks..
.

Be great that, till we sell him to Everton for £35 with a 15% sell on clause.

I'd love a few more witticisms about how easily and cheaply we sell our players. They're novel and imaginative. References to bags of sweets and minimal amounts of money, in particular, always make me chuckle. If they could be coupled with influenza and McCabe's sofa in Brussels; that would be even better.

He no longer resides in Brussels. Hasn't done for a while.

Thought he was poor with flashes of brilliance. He cannot play in centre midfield he just bombed forward and was often hard to pick out.

The boy has talent but he's a while of playing in the championship.

That's a fair summary that but it's the flashes of brilliance that get people so excited.

He's certainly very talented and a lovely player to watch but Wilder needs to find a way to best fit him into the team, agree he's not ready yet based on the Walsall display.

I notice Hanson got slaughtered for being poor the other night , but a couple of posts on here admitting he got balls hit over him
Any front player is reliant on the right feed,
It will be hard for Hanson to head balls way over his head

A tad more balance in assessments seems to be the order of the day

Agree, a forward can often blame the service and the service to Hanson was poor, however Hanson was generally hanging around the back post area and not that mobile.

There was a massive noticeable different when Ched replaced him because he was dropping deep taking up good positions, showing for the ball and making good layoffs then spinning off running behind the defense.

Ched didn't do a right lot but you could see their defense was struggling to keep tabs on him.

Ched looked dangerous, good alround play. Hanson looked static waiting for a good cross that never came.

2 different styles of forward though.

maybe the ball was nearer to Ched , which does help

It was nearer so it helped, the link play was better all round in the 2nd half.

As I said it's different styles. Hanson was predominantly lurking on the back post hoping for a good ball to the back post, but it never came (so he has a bit of an excuse).

Where as every now and then Ched dropped deeper, showed more intelligence linking with midfield, then he ran into space heading towards goal.

Lavery was the nearly man, was quite mobile but nothing came off, also it seemed that Lavery didnt know whether he should be a winger or a striker. He shows potential but doesn't quite deliver but he's still worth persevering with so don't write him off yet.

Ched wasn't exactly brilliant (although he was impressive when you think he's hardly played in 4 years) but the big story that night was that Cheds forward play was clearly better than Hanson or Lavery and he showed that he still has ability. Long way to go yet (so don't get too excited) but a very promising performance.

I wondered who "DB" was for ages. Then I realised: he's our Aston Martin.
