How do you know who appointed and who recommended? It was obvious that with PH moving to first team a week ago, someone was needed quickly for the U23s. Rather than upset the rest of the academy they have appointed people who were available and actually had a good pedigree. The football world is very closed and no doubt both these will have crossed paths with PH at some point in the past.

The lengths some people will go to to try and knock the club.
It's a good appointment, both U23 coaches have decent pedigree. It shows they are investing in the youth - even as a stop-gap until the end of the season. It allows PH to concentrate on the first team squad until the end of the season. Invest in the staff and it is not wasted money.
Both coaches seem to be buzzing - we need that enthusiasm. Maybe we should be pleased for them and the club and welcome them?
The club moves on without Wilder, I thought that this was what we wanted (strong academy/good coaches/a vision that transcends the manager/local talent coming through).

I've nothing against the Coughlan Currie stop gap. But, I'd have been more comfortable with the continuity of Jack Lester handling the U23s until the end of the season

No he doesnt. The board appoint the U23s manager. Stop making stuff up just to knock the club.

The manager strongly advises and the club appoints as you will see. As for running down the club I have no intention to do it as the board are doing a good job of that as for wanting it to be run down you have to take my word for it that I don’t and I also know that we shouldn’t whinge on about Wilder it’s over however my greatest concern is the academy! One bit of good news is that there won’t be a wholesale sell off of our best players however it’s now about getting the right man to do the job.

Coughlan played alongside Hecky for the Wendys a few seasons ago, he also lives in Sheffield still.

I assumed he must still have a base here because he's someone I've seen quite often in recent years in supermarkets and bars, even when he was at places like Southend and Bristol.

Monday’s victory was the perfect end to a whirlwind few days for former Barnet manager Currie and Coughlan, whose previous stints in management came at Bristol Rovers and Mansfield Town.

“Jack (Lester, United’s head of academy) got in touch after Chrissy Wilder left and Paul had stepped up to the first team,” explains Currie, now 46. “We were team-mates back in the day at Chesterfield. He asked if I could come in and I jumped at the chance.

“I know Graham and he knows me. Both of us have been in management but it has been tough to get back in due to the pandemic. This is an opportunity, for 10 weeks, to get back on the grass, work with some talented footballers and see where it takes us.

“If we do all right, you never know. Something may present itself. But, if not, we just enjoy these 10 weeks for what they are.”

So we've given a guy a job for a few weeks rather than leave the youth team without a coach, and that's strange to you? I think it'd be stranger if we didn't have a coach for them at all but I'm old school like that.
