It did, but only by a paltry £5m (£85,300,000 in 2013) so I missed him (and a number of others over the time span) out.
The thing with Neymar is - although he's good, he's not that good. He's not a patch on the World Class players over the past couple of decades.

I wouldn't even put him amongst the top 5 strikers in the World. There's 2 from his own team that's above him.

Blackburn want him to go along with several others they cannot afford. Their problem, is that they are financially in a right mess, and need to sell for as much as possible.
The chicken family are trying to apply their experience in the normal business world to football....which doesn't work as it is completely on its own.
The player may be good....and yes on a football game his "scores" for his attributes may make him worth £5m. But when taking into account other factors....he's in reality worth nothing like that amount.
A players value is determined by the market. If there is only one buyer and you have to sell then you are fucked.

In this case, there appears to be a lack of interested buyers for him.....similar to the Leonard fellow. So it means that in the end....if you want to sell you have to cave in.
And I see that happening with Leonard, and probably this lad too.

Don't disagree - I just think we could put this and the Leonard thread on ice until the end of the month as I don't see anything happening until then on either.

There was me thinking that Wilder is a good manager, but (after reading this) his many cash signings have been shown to be easy. Perhaps Tufty should try and contact some of the forum's transfer negotiating experts in future

I gave credit to Wilder in my post. I said they were very astute signings on his behalf. Because he is a good manager he identified players like O’Connell deemed surplus to requirements at his current club who we could pick up for a small fee and then he’d go on to be worth much more than we paid for him. That’s excellent management. The likes of Hanson, O Shea etc. were a little more obvious and short term fixes to get us up that wouldn’t cost loads.

There was absolutely no criticism of Wilder in my post. Merely an acknowledgment that it is easier to do a deal for a player unwanted by his club, or one in the last year of their contract, than it is for a player that has plenty left on his contract and is a key player for his club. I say well done to Wilder for identifying players in the former category that were good enough to improve our team. Fact of the matter is, we can’t compete financially with a lot of championship clubs so we’re somewhat reliant on this formula.

We've rejected offers. I heard we turned down an offer from Brighton for Flynn (hence the new contract) during Clough's days. We wouldn't have taken £1.5m for Maguire.

We're low balling clubs at the moment, trying to get players on the cheap. Because there's still plenty of time before the window closes.
Let's see how keen the clubs are to keep their players and keep paying their wages when there's a couple of days left. Of course, a lot will depend on how much the players want to join us.

Yeah my comment was somewhat tongue in cheek and largely down to McCabe’s public comments on the issue. I generally agree with your post and have no problem with us trying a lowball approach in the first instance. We’re not under huge pressure as we have a squad that should be able to compete and are just looking to improve here and there when a player becomes available.

That last paragraph is always said by those fans steeped in the lore of Junior Computer Manager, never by anyone in the game who has to negotiate real deals. All players are unique. There is no going rate for "league one defenders". You really are digging a hole on that one. You've dug too far to return, I fear, but at least dig no further, eh?

That's at least twice now you've said something daft and been caught wriggling furiously. Retire gracefully and with a little dignity.

As to your ludicrous LinkedIn suggestion, that smacks of desperation. Some of us exist at a slightly higher level than that. You really ought to cease and desist with that unattractive "status" line of comparison - I find it a little unbecoming and you would, in any event, be even more put in your place, by any such comparison, than you have been already. It's not a winner for you. I'd leave it.

“cease and desist” is a figure of speech that I don’t like. The “desist” is redundant as it’s synonymous with “cease”. Just one of those terms would be fine.

There’s my contribution to levelling up the post count with Ryan Leonard.

The thing I don't get about Lenihan is why are we the only ones after him? The saga has been going on a while but no one else has even been mentioned as being after him.

Wendy would've been in for him, but unfortunately they could only afford a £100k bid for his team mate 31 yr old Mulgrew :D

How many on here thought that might be the case with free spending pigs?

Same could be said for several of our recent signings.....Baldock comes to mind, and I'm sure there are others, so it probably demonstrates that doing our business quietly is the best way of doing things.

It's what Pinchy does to make himself feel superior. His over elaborate use of the English language is amusing. He regularly uses words that are contextually unnecessary.

He talks of his experience, then uses phrases like 'theoretical economics'.

I believe it's called waffling.

No. It means he's rubbish. Other clubs always know best and always speak the truth. All of them.

I'm afraid you're wrong about that mate. It's a familiar phrase in the law. Cease means "stop doing it". Desist means "don't start doing it again".

You're wandering out of your depth, again. Careful now or we might have to compare qualifications. You'll come second.

Of course I will Pinchy. In your mind anyway, I don't expect any evidence forthcoming though....after all, that would simply out your 'self fellating' oracle status.

We aren't doing it quietly though, Blackburn are trying to drum up interest and start a bidding war but it just isn't happening. It seems to be a one horse race.

Ahhhh. Another one horse race
That usually ends up with the player staying at his League One club

It's a funny division though Danny. Take away the big spenders which teams do you think should be looking at a player at £2m or who else could afford that

There's only 3/4 teams that wouldn't/can't.

Bolton, Millwall, Ipswich and Burton?

You started this with the LinkedIn crap. Now listen carefully. I'm trying to give you the opportunity to back off gently and not with your tail between your legs, but you are too full of yourself to realise that.

I've been contributing to this forum for a long time and have never felt the need to justify myself in terms of academic or professional attainment to buffoons who come looking for a confrontation. I never have and I'm not going to start now. One or two fellow posters know me In real life. I suspect they would tender the same well-meaning advice I have offered to you. Please, stop leading with your chin.

The signings of Wilson, Wright, Hussey, Fleck, Carruthers, Baldock, Clarke, Hanson and Evans make you look a right wassock.

JJ needs no assistance. I'm beginning to doubt the rest of his user name though, given that he delights in disparaging the club he purports to support. There are quite a few of them around at the moment. Mmmmm.

Well, now we have a market, or so I thought, but our resident Maynard Keynes tells me there can be no market value for a single product so I really can't help you.

This new-fangled economic model is a bit of a bugger. I was going to suggest the two of you made competing offers and we'd take it from there but it can't be done apparently unless I'm selling more than one.

You'll just have to pay whatever price I want for it. I know a second hand Roller went for £100,000 the other day so that would be a start I think.

The capitalist system is unravelling before our very eyes and all because of Sheffield Fucking United.

Anywhere here it is. Just send me every penny you've got.

Just need a pic with you and your Rug on now Pinch. Thanks.
