Sheffield United manager Kevin Blackwell wants to sign Darius Vassell in a £1.6million deal.

Blackwell can spend following the sale of James Beattie to Stoke and Vassell knows his Manchester City future is bleak following the arrival of Craig Bellamy.

Blackwell has signed £400,000 Chesterfield hitman Jamie Ward and is keen on City's £1m-rated Ched Evans.

Could be the papers putting 2 and 2 together and making 5. You know the sort of thing:-
"Right, Bellamys gone to Man City, who does that nose out? Lets look at the squad. Aha ! Vassell. Now who in the Championship has got any money? Aha! Sheff Utd have just sold Beattie and are in the market for a striker. Bang that in the paper and if it happens I can say I told you so."

Personally I used to rate Vassell and reckon he could do a job in our league.

After following the Blades transfer dealings for many years now I can say that if there is any truth in this and its been leaked to the press then what will happen next is United will release a statement saying they're in talks and somebody else will nip in and sign him.

I've never been a massive fan of Vassel but I'm certain he could do the business in this league.

There are only the obvious two stumbling blocks:
1: Silly wage demands
2: He still thinks he is Mr Big England striker and couldn't possibly play outside the top division (see point 1 again).

But that just my opinion.

Beattie was abit like that when he joined us too.

If he does come to us i'd imagine with the financial situation that led to Beattie being sold this wouldn't be the case and he would come to the realisation his England days are behind him.

He obviously wasn't because he moved to us.

Apparently Darius Vassell is one of the nicest men in football. A practicing Christian, he has none of the 'Billy Big Bollocks' mentality of some of his peers.

I would say the main stumbling blocks would be wage expectations and whether he'd be willing to drop out of the top flight to take a chance with us. It may be that these are not actually issues at all, though.

being christian means naff all, Jesus was christian and he thought he was the dogs bollocks, look where that got him!! Any way as for us signing him all i'd like to say is Please GOD NO do not curse us with this disciple of yours.....:D

Jesus was Jewish actually. Him being a Christian is an impossibility. What with him actually being Christ

who started christianity then? cos it certainly wasn't ALLAH, father s64.. It was a joke, didn't relise u were so religous as i couldn't give two flying f@*ks wether he was a yid or a bible basher, but i'd be very upset if we signed vassel....

I think technically it was the 12 apostles, with Peter being the first Pope. Kind of Like AFC Wimbledon breaking away from league football to start building their way up from non-league status. But with more Lions.

How'd this go from vassell to jeebus lmfao!!!

Personally I think he is a great player, fast, powerful and an eye for goal HOWEVER he is very injury prone and although it would be great to say we've got darius vassell on bench it's not so great with a big wage bill and no goals.

I'm not religious in the slightest.:)

Regarding Vassell, i can't really make my mind up on him. Whenever i have seen him play (admittidly only on a number of occassions), i haven't been overly impressed. However, playing at a lower level, should in theory, make him shine more.

Cheese's how did this turn into a religious argument?
Religion has little to do with football IMO (but in some peoples it does, so fair do's to them)
as Football has nothing to do with religion (IMO) because you'd knock over the pew's if you played Football in a Church!

Vassell was a good striker but he's been injured so much in the last few years it's hard to tell if he could get back to being as good as he was. But i'd be happy to watch him give it a go if was willing to at BDTBL.

I think the best for both us and him would maybe be a loan for the rest of the season.

He would, hopefully, get the goals to put us there or there abouts. If he really takes to us we could try to sign him. If he dont he's helped us back up there and we could buy someone else.

Plus if he hasn't got a future at Man City banging a few in for us will help put him in the shop window.

As far as I'm aware, Bible 1.0 was produced and directed by the Jews, so I'd imagine "bible bashing" isn't just the forte of the Christians. :)

Bible

–noun 1. the collection of sacred writings of the Christian religion, comprising the Old and New Testaments.
2. Also called Hebrew Scriptures. the collection of sacred writings of the Jewish religion: known to Christians as the Old Testament.
3. (often lowercase) the sacred writings of any religion.
4. (lowercase) any book, reference work, periodical, etc., accepted as authoritative, informative, or reliable: He regarded that particular bird book as the birdwatchers' bible.

:)

As much as we would all love to discuss religion til the cow comes home.

Is this lad signing or not Foxy? :)

Have to agree here. Can we move the Religious debate to a different section and concentrate on the thread that was..........

.........before it got hijacked

A rumour about a possible signing becomes a debate about Judeo-Christian heritage and the sacred writings of said religions.

Don't you just love this forum?? :D :D :D

Someone mistakingly took a left off Relevant Road and headed down Tangent Lane !!

Yes chaps, enlightening as it was, back on topic please :)

A thread exists called "Humanist Buses"... probably a better place for religious debate!

Speaking to a Man City season ticket holder yesterday and he said they were pissing themselves laughing about maybe getting 1.6M for Vassell. He said he runs about like a headless chicken but his finishing and control is shit. He did say however that Ched Evans was a good player and we ought to go for him over Vassell.
