In the interests of fairness, balance and forum harmony, can I just say having read the thread I think BOTH Mattbianco AND Sheffielder are idiots.:D

Met him in town after he said he'd just been to see Jules Holland. I was bladdered with my mate and he was alone, plus being about 2 foot taller than him, I thought he might think "balls to this" but he was spot on and let me have a pic with him. I then said "what you reckon for Saturday at Carlisle 1-3?" he just laughed and nodded. I then proceeded to put a fiver on Carlisle 2-3 Blades.

FT Carlisle 1-3 Sheffield United

FFS.

I don't accept that Evans getting sent down fucked us up because we didn't beat the top 2 and if wilson had rotated his team even slightly some of the players who came in would have seen some game time.

No, what really fucked us up was that the insurance signing Wilson made in case Evans, for whatever reason, missed a chunk of the season, got a season-ending injury almost immediately at the point he was most needed - and this fell at a time when we then couldn't bring in more. Had Hoskins not been injured I think we'd have still gone up.

And which authority do you speak from... Presumably the 'takes one to know one' group?

Yes indeed, Hoskins was a more than able replacement, we had some bad luck at the end of that season, but at least we didn't end up relying on our keeper to score a pen...............oh wait

Fuck me, has there been a mass humour bypass inflicted on this site. Even the smiley face (bit of a cop out matey, keep them guessing) couldn't give it away.

Or are people just ganging up on you Uncy? Can't blame them for that in truth.

Might be time to give it a swerve until the New Year.

I was actually quite impressed by Wilson when he came in. He brushed off all the criticism and showed some balls to face some of my muckers in the car park (above). I know he won a lot of fans over that day (or at least they gave him a chance) when him and McCabe talked it out with the ring leaders of the protest. Wilson went about his job really well and in a humble man. I remember the first game when we dominated at Oldham. He let the players revel in the win and quickly clapped the fans (showing respect) but not overdoing it.

Wilson promosed to bring attacking football to us and he did. He got us playing really well and many of us enjoyed watching it. Post November (Stevenage away was the turning point) we were excellent. I reallly enjoyed it. Wilson took the banter well and ignored criticism from the idiots that had never given him a chance. He was unfairly sacked, but he never came out and criticised the club or fans. Throughout his time at the Lane he acted with dignity and respect. He is clearly a nice bloke and I respect him for that (from his tenure at the Lane).

All of the above does not get over the issue that Wilson is a very average manager. You only have to look at his record to see that. He has had 11 attempts to get out of this division, but never got a team promoted. That's with some very good sides (at Bristol he spent cash and that Swindon team was very good) but with us it was his golden opportunity. With Ched and K Mac he had the 2 best players in the division and Lowton, Williamson and Quinn were all miles better than everyone else in the league. We had the strongest squad in the division and Wilson blew it. He was very unlucky with some of the external circumstances (the Ched incident) but it was in our hands and we fucked it up. I did feel for Wilson (to get 90 points and not go up is ridiculous) but he had the chance to do something about it.

Looking at Wilson's record I have to think that his Barnsley's days were an outlier. He did brilliantly with the Dingles and they were excellent at that time. However he has rarely been offered anything other than lower league positions (for a reason) and has as many relegations under his belt. There seems toi be a pattern that he has a good spell and then runs out of ideas. It happened at MK Dons, Swindon, Bristol and us. He was unlucky and he certainly had the rug pulled from under him and us and Swindon. Losing Miller and Blackman was a killer blow for him, but his other signings rarely worked. He still had a good team and we were limping towards the play offs when we sacked him.

I wish him all the best. He is a likeable charachter. Straight talking and honest. However I think he is a limited manager. Unfortunately I think it will only go badly at Barnsley. I am surprised he has gone back. He is a legend there and he risks tainting that, as it would take a miracle to keep them up. See thee at Lane next season Danny mi owd spadge :)

Have to admit, mostly because of Barnsley however I thought he was very lucky to inherit what would have been a middle of the road championship side and even luckier that Ched had an a weekend in rhyl before he joined so could not be sold. I think people gloss over the 1st season because the 1st half of the season wasn't great and the 2nd was all Ched until he got sent down. Worst still were the players he brought into the club and probably ended up with the slowest team sheff utd ever had.
3 managers tried and failed to get the best out of ched, Wilson inherited a good squad but with a losing mentality. I know he'll never get the respect he deserves for doing what was nearly a very very good job, but for some bad luck and a night out in ryll he would have achieved promotion playing some of the best football I've seen at the lane. Good luck to the man I say
