Sky sources: Barnsley to name Danny Wilson as manager today #SSN

League 1 is his level, so get him in now to build a team for next season. Makes sense to me.

He has never had a promotion from this division although his win% is quite high by all accounts. Mixed feelings on this one as Barnsley doing well would mean Wednesday could still be in the poop, however I would like to see Wilson relegated.

Hopefully he will be in the transfer market in January for McMahon, Flynn, Doyle and Porter for example

I wouldn't say I'd 'like to see him relegated' his first season as our manager was the 2nd most enjoyable in my lifetime (after promotion to prem obviously). Doesn't he have one of, if not the, best win ratio of blades managers? If he can help send Wednesday down, I'd love him forever and ever!

Does he? Does it matter? Never much cared for "assists" as a statistic but it blows this "win percentage" bollocks right out of the water.

He's piloted the pigs down himself, to be the architect of getting Barnsley above them and doing so again would be worthy of a knighthood.

I disagree on that. Though a win percentage does not tell the whole story, it's certainly a good indicator. THere's no doubt there's a correlation between good managers and good win ratios (relative to those from the same club). I don't see why people still have it in for Wilson, we got 90 points and were the top scorers in England during his first season, all whilst playing football much more exciting that before or since. To not get promoted on that was incredibly unlucky. Good luck to him, I say.

Think he was an excellent manager for us and incredibly unlucky.

Never said a bad word about the club before, during or after his tenure. despite the way he was greeted by supporters upon his joining club.

Good bloke in my book and I wish him all the best.

Yep, totally agree there. He came to us at the worst time in a generation and his job was to get promotion whilst cutting the wage bill and playing staff dramatically.

As you said, he never said a bad word about us. A real gentleman in my opinion.

Good luck to him, seemed a natural move for him to move back to the dingles, though I'm not sure he'll do much this season.

I can't understand why any United fan would feel any vindictiveness towards Wilson. Desperately unlucky in his first season, dealt a shit hand in his second..

Unless you want to see him relegated because he you want to see Barnsley relegated?

I hope Danny does a good job at Barnsley if its true , had no problem while he was at the helm for us , just a combination of unforseen circumstances , ched , then selling his best striker , losing quinn , lowts , willo , then having 1 hand tied behind his back in 2nd season , so if it is true goodluck and send that 2nd team in barnsley down .

A bit like Tottenham, say, replacing a manager with a 55% win ratio with someone who has previously managed the same club and achieved a 37%

Win ratios to me are like a BMI index in that they give a rough indication but do not factor in circumstance. For example, BMI would have you believe that someone like Anthony Joshua (Olympic Boxer) is obese!

The football in Wilsons first season was a joy to watch although we had some of the best players in the division at that time; namely Lowton, Maguire, Williamson, Quinn and Evans. The second season I don't know how to judge; Was he unfairly dismissed after losing two of his star players in December (Miller to injury and Blackman sold beneath him)? Or will we look to the poor signings he made (Westlake, Murphy, Forte, Higginbotham) and failing to look like achieving promotion in what was a poor L1 last year?

Personally I wish him well. I hope and think he will be able to keep Barnsley from being relegated.

I would like to see Wilson relegated.

Thanks for confirming my thoughts that you are a complete idiot.

Why on earth would you wish that? When we sacked Wilson automatic promotion was still in our own hands. What a stroke of genius that turned out to be.

Have to admit, mostly because of Barnsley however I thought he was very lucky to inherit what would have been a middle of the road championship side and even luckier that Ched had an a weekend in rhyl before he joined so could not be sold. I think people gloss over the 1st season because the 1st half of the season wasn't great and the 2nd was all Ched until he got sent down. Worst still were the players he brought into the club and probably ended up with the slowest team sheff utd ever had.

Pot kettle mate.

[CONFIRMED] Aidy White

Forever on the wind up. This is a forum, a Website for debate, I have chosen to debate your comment as it is "in my opinion" (and many others it would seem ^^^) a ridiculous comment. Why do you not like Wilson so much?

Were you stood in the car park on the day of his appointment?

Aidy White shows a prime example of the beauty of football and it's opinions. You and other knock me for disliking Doyle, yet you don't like White, Sitwell with Hill etc; etc; Football is about aopinions. One of my mates and myself literally have a list of players who are either his or mine. He likes Doyle, Porter etc; I like Baxter, Muprhy etc; I think Long and Maguire belong to me. That's what football's about.

Wilson to me was a failure with the team he had and win percentages mean absolutely nothing, AVB (55%) and I think and many others that he wasted what was a very talented team. Yes he was unlucky in places however that season promotion was in our own hands and we gave it away. We didn't beat Wednesday or Charlton home or away so didn't deserve top spot and that was our season over.

Just because you disagree doesn't make me an idiot

and I didn't want Wilson because of his record of getting out of this division, nothing else

If Chef Evans had kept his todger in his pants there's a good chance he'd still be our manager now.

Don't understand this bad feeling towards him at all (or the childish spats). Danny did well for us and was unlucky in his first season. When Weir came in he largely improved the squad (ignoring the sale of McD) and took us a massive step backwards. I acknowledge the team was going a tad stale towards the end of Wilsons tenure and we went very defensively minded. But we were in a much healthier position then, than at the end of Weirs (tippy tappy) reign.
Good luck Danny & send Wendy packing!

Indeed. I think it's a bit of a myth that Evans would have gone in the Jan 12 transfer window had he not had the charge hanging over him. It would have been perfectly feasible, even with the charge, for a first or second tier team to have come in for him, offered him a 3 year contract on more money, with the proviso that the contract would be cancelled if he were convicted.

Agree - good luck to the bloke - if our striker had not gone horizontal jogging, things could have been a lot different
