We got very good crowds under Danny Wilson. In recent times, the manager who made most fans walk away was none other than Dave Bassett. Some of our crowds in the top flight were absolutely pitiful and in his last season....

I've never really bought in to the idea that a manager would or should keep any fans away from the Lane.

I was dead set against the appointment of Wilson, and one or two others in the past as well mind, but that didn't stop me from going. Refusing to go based on who the manager is smacks of someone who wants the club to fail just so they can say that i told you. In my honest opinion clubs that have got people who go to the games wanting the team to lose so it goes some way to removing the manager aren't proper fans.

No, but I've never heard anyone say they stayed away because of the Spackman [Green] style of play. Many did in Bassett's case. Very unpalatable for some but true.

I think people are looking at Wilson's first season with a bit of a misty eye due to the points and goals etc; however we were not very good with Cresswell and Porter upfront under Evans decided he was a football player around November time. His movement alone made from December onwards a great time to watch us with Williamson, McDonald and Quinn benefiting. People will say that it was Wilson who got the best out of Evans, yet it is known that it was Morgan who got to grips with him and made him buckle his ideas up.

I think it was the realisation he could be spending 5 years in the clinc that got the best out of Evans

You say Wilson failed for not getting promotion yet warnock got us relegated and you think he should have been given the money to get us back up, I take it getting relegated at home against Wigan when all you needed was a draw is less of a failure

Is the OP Colin's brother ??? what a strange thread this one is .................. staying away because of Danny Wilson LOL, if only he were the only problem the club has had over the last five years or so.
Yeah sure we have lost 10,000 regulars since the day Colin got the boot but the fans have not left in droves over one managerial appointment more like they left in dribs and drabs mirroring the teams steady decline to mediocrity in League one. Some may have walked away due to the continual selling of any decent player for a quick buck I just can't see these fans all rushing back just because David Weir is manager. The interference that the last time this club was united was when Colin was manager is frankly laughable no one divided the fans more than that knob head, I could never stand the two hat but to give him his due he was the best manager we had in years for all his faults.................. and he had plenty.

Another bonus for us may be the defence may improve from having an ex defender as manager? He knows what a good defence looks like and if we are solid in defence we will not concede goals. That is the bedrock of any football club.

Am I missing something? Wasn't our defence the only part of our team that functioned last season?
