Danny Webber

I'm sure i've seen Webber set up 2 or 3 goals this season by making good deep crosses for players to get on the end of.

is it just me or am i the only one who thinks webber is rubbish???

Your not the only one. Personally I thought he was great, when we first signed him! Since then he seems to have progressivly got worse. There are by far better reserve strikers than him. Just my view though.

Webber's not the best striker in the division by any stretch of the imagination, but in my opinion he's the best striker we've got at the club.

And he's playing on the bloody wing.

No rumour but he's been released by Pompey, could do a job......? Wages will be a problem but he's knocking 30 now. I would have him back like a shot!

they have also released the lord. Michael Brown. Get rid of ched and maybe williamson to save wages and have a go at getting him back

I'd have brown back anyday, he was that experianced player that made things tick at portsmouth last year ... untill they couldn't pay him.

He'd be much better then Doyle in the middle.. just depends on wages

Webber was truly awful in his last season with us. Can't think he's improved since...

Brown is a millionaire whose legs have gone. If he just wants to enjoy playing and mentoring kids then great. But for every Stuart McCall there must be a hundred Lee Hendries.

neither of them, we need to stop living in the past with players like this, webber wasnt poor when he left, he was atrocious and brown has no pace and will want atleast 10-15k. webbers attitude stinks.

no manager with united links and no ex players unless its jags or walker!!!

Not really a rumour but just seen a comment on a Sky Sports article that someone said they would like to bring him back which got me thinking. He is currently available on a free and training with QPR.

Would you like to see him back at the Lane or has his time as a Blade gone? I always liked him and thought he had something that others didn't. I reckon he would get goals in L1 but not sure on how much money he would demand.

Just wondered what others thought?

Never forget the chance he missed against Wigan on the final day of the PL season though. Think he hit the post didn't he.

No not for me. He hasnt done anything since leaving us.

All day long.

He's got (or at least he had) skill and pace and we desperately need to recruit that type of player.
Surprisingly he's only 29 but hardly played last season due to a bad injury.
If he could prove his fitness in an extended trial/loan or sign on a "pay as you play" deal, I think he could be a very good player at our level.

Not if he played for free !!
Flatters to decieve and has no end product. We do not need to carry another player, we need a striker who CAN score goals.

It might just be me? but this last sentence made me laugh. Ironic school boy humour.

But i wouldnt take Webber back plainly just because of his injury record. Plus he isnt really that prolific even at 3rd division level when he played for Port Vale.

He had one and a half good seasons in the Championship (one with Watford and half with us) but his injury concerns me.

I never felt confident he was composed enough in front of goal. I really think the miss vs. Wigan hit his confidence as he never seemed right after that.

For the money he would want, I'd say no. Doesn't guarantee goals - though he is capable of them at this level - and might be injured a lot. Got to be better out there.

No, it's not just you... I'll never forget that moment, if only I could be sure what happened!

My initial reaction was 'hell no, he's awful these days!'.

But then I remembered so are we.

Reading that back does make me sound an idiot :D Oh Well.

Seems to be a bit of mixed views with regards to Webber. He is currently training with QPR

On his day, excellent. Brilliant even. Sadly spent too much time out injured. Soooooo.....

It's a no, but if we got him then I wouldn't be disappointed ... If that makes sense :)

Webber's a technically brilliant player with the ability to seemingly pass through solid objects when dribbling! I could never understand some of the vitriol aimed his way when he played for us.

If we could sign him, even if he played half the games this season, he would be awesome. Pity we've no chance in hell of signing him due to wages and the fact that he'll probably get a Div 1 team. He'll probably end up going to Leeds!

I wonder if he still phones sports interactive up to moan about his stats on football manager?

Training with QPR? That will be Warnock helping him keep fit in order to find a club and NOT QPR looking to sign him

True plus they have just got Jay Bothroyd on a free.

I mean Webber might be worth going for but we would really be taking a gamble on his fitness plus we have carried too many crippled players over the years.

Legs have gone I think, he has become too injury prone.

No disrespect to Danny as he was a good player for us, I will always remember his debut goal at Elland Road :D

We need to stop thinking backwards though, been there done that.

I really liked him despite the flaws mentioned above, he could do a job at this level with the right players round him if he could stay injury free, as usual if a player is injury prone it doesn't usually change when they move clubs, look how much the mugs at S6 wasted on Franny Jeffers thinking they could change him as one example
