Danny Ings was a very good player about 4 years and 3 surgeries ago. Hopefully he's got something left. And, even if he hasn't, he's a good pro to have around.
I think I'm in the same boat on this one. It's a gamble, doesn't really excite me but some gambles pay off some don't. If the wages aren't too excessive then perhaps its worth a punt.

Lets hope he's a Didsy or a Leon Clarke rather than an Ian Rush.

If he's as good as Ian Rush, we'll even get to play against Accrington Stanley

For depth purposes, think it's a smart signing. Hopefully means we can get One a loan at a lower level to develop too. But, overall, its nothing overly exciting...🤷‍♂️

His style of play is what United thought they were getting with Brewster and Cannon.

Finishing with both feet, composure, movement, workrate, pressing, link up. Just depends if he can stay fit

Hopefully, his is the sort of signing that steadies the ship and prevents team confidence taking a nose dive. Someone who knows where the goal is and can help bring on our less experienced forwards.

Bought for the Short term rather than long maybe but it should be an important signing.

I’m defo in the ‘an older head has plenty to offer’ camp. Thinking Mcall, Cowans, Windass, Corky, Speed.
Plenty of experience to share & offer to the youngsters.
A bit of nouse on the field.
Played at a high level much of their careers.
Quick brain with slower legs.

Of course they come with its risks but worth a gamble for me on a free though wages won’t be small.

Good signing, always scored goals despite not being particularly fast. Links play, good influence in the dressing room and should be respected by his team mates.
Now to either move cannon on and bring in a quick wide player ( as that is where Selles wants to play him ) or send One out on loan.

Has anyone heard the confirmation as to who has the option to extend his contract ?

Clearly a desperation signing but might be a masterstroke if he can stay fit. We desperately needed experience as well. Unconvinced in him being a lone striker though but a 1 year contract mitigates any great risk of he doesn't work out.

Wasn't fussed when the news first emerged about Ings. Having heard him speak, I'm more encouraged. Clearly an experienced, smart footballer. Obviously the playing time (injury record?) over the last couple of seasons is a question mark, and the last thing we need is another T Davis situation, but if we can get 60 mins per game out of him and he's close to the player he once was, we're laughing.

I don't think we should overlook the difference in stepping down a division can make to an older class player either. Look at Billy and Didz, not to mention when you flip the direction of travel, we've all witnessed the absolute gulf between the Champ and PL. Being surplus to requirements for a PL team is no indication of a lack of ability in the Champ.

GLTTL, we're going to need it.

A bit of luck required with this signing (injury wise), and at this stage of the window, I am not sure that we could get another CF in without spending stupid money.

I am definitely not an ITK or spy for the club etc but just looking on transfrmarket.co.uk, I picked out Nathan Redmond and Danny Ings 9 days ago. To say they only started training with us yesterday and it doesn't take a week to travel from London to Sheffield our new AI might be this forum! I also think the contract we have incentivised is great, a year with an option to extend is basically saying to Ings, go out stay fit and prove yourself. We aren't lumbered with a player that could be out for extensive periods of time beyond the initial year and if he does well, I would expect us to activate the option of extending. But I am still taking the rights of ITK next I heard Messi and Ronaldo but saying that they are either "too foreign" or "too old" for our fan base.

That’s a sensible contract as well hopefully that’s an indication we’ve learned our lesson about handing out long deals to players with question marks over their availability

Porkers, through necessity, forging young players careers, developing a fighting spirit and creating a culture that will stand them in good stead in future.
We're spending millions on Danny Ings and a clutch of other players with no real connection to the club, who won't be part of the club for long, creating an increasing disconnect with fans.
All very different from the prospectus.

I was half expecting a 3 year deal like we offered Keiffer Moore, but surprisingly it's just a 1 year deal with an optional extra.
