Best 11 decided for a particular game. Been the case since football was invented. Maybe a thing called tacticts?
Ah yes. Tactic(t)s. That would be a fine thing. We should definitely look into getting some of them. So many other clubs use them or is it a new fad for snowflakes and woke lefty's?

wilder basically has a plan a and thats it

Does he even have that? Watching us is like watching a 6 a side team where players have vague positions, but there’s no clear plan of how to score goals or set up defensively. It’s just a bunch of blokes having a kick about and hoping for the best. It genuinely looks like the limit to Wilder’s tactics is “Do what you can lads. Try not to concede and score if you can.”

So CH correct me if Im wrong here. We play Donovan , we lose, and its great? New to the game are you? Its all about the 3 points, Donovan or no Donovan.
I'm not sure if you noticed but we were losing before he came on and would have lost had he not.
So the choice isn't as you're trying to make out.
It's lose and watch dross. Or, enjoy the game and enjoy 3 points.

Absolutely incredible that people still make this excuse up about him being a "young" player and needs "looking after". He's a professional footballer, being paid
professional footballers wages. We aren't asking him to work 60 hours a week as a scaffolder ffs, he's a footballer his job is to play football, of which right now he's doing very little.. through no fault of his self.
Scaffolders don't compete against other scaffolders. They can be less than 100% and the whole building won't look worse.

I'm old enough to remember when having your best players in the starting 11 was the done thing.
Dinosaur 😂.

Those innocent times of 1 substitute and before players were carrying Bluetooth telemetry like F1 cars .

Think alot of football has been driven into a tactical and information based black hole making games more akin to 3d chess.

Dont think today's players would understand once you start you're only coming off on a stretcher.

Does "punt it long and pray" count as a tactic?
Sadly that's an improvement on Wilders recent seasons when the tactic was pass it endlessly sideways and backwards in front of the entire opposition until you lose it or are under so much pressure you have to hack it anywhere anyway.
I well remember in the supposed good season saying 'Go long Sooty' every time Souttar received one of the endless pointless sideways passes but he only went long diagonal when he had too re pressure and Wilders insane endless possession 'tactics'
No hope of winning a header with any of our strikers (One will never play under Wilder)
BUT it can be surprising with an energetic midfield (ie NOT Wilders Dads Army selections) how many times you can pick up possession from a defenders header - particularly if someone can be bothered to put them under pressure when clearing
and of course when McCallum is playing a clearance out of play may actually get a ball into the box from a long throw - with McGuiness at least in with a chance of getting his head on it.
There has always only been one sole attacking option under Wilder - the Mr McCawber 'something will turn up'
and it often did when we had good players,
despite Wilder's brain dead tactics

ps If its OK for France and PSG to kick out for a high throw in to the defending opponents
to implement a high press
then it should be acceptable for the shite assembled by Wilder to do it
if only they could press anyone being largely immobile and feather weight under challenge

That's a big part of the problem. We don't have a settled consistent starting 11, but it's more to do with their fitness and conditioning and not because Wilder sets us up or selects a team to counteract the opposition. He chooses his favourites, then whoever is fit, and then works the team and formation out.

Wilder was asked about tactics is a recent pre match presser and he said he preferred polos

So Random Blade it doesn't matter if
a.you lose like the first 70 minutes and mostly every game this season
or
b. you lose or draw playing a direct attacking style with flair?

Which one of the two gives me more hope in a plan for success

A Game is decided over 90 mins plus injury time, not 70. Id take a boring 3 points every game.

Chooses his favourites. Yeah ok

Aw sir sir pick me sir, why you always picking your favourites its not fair sir. Telling my mum.

It's not great to lose but we would at least look like we are trying to make something happen on the pitch.

Quite refreshing to see someone from The Star at least just come out and say what many are thinking rather than have Hall deliver us another Wilder spin on why Donovan isn't playing.
Ah yes, lets go with the mob , always works that.

You do know enjoying the game doesnt ensure 3 points?
No it doesn’t. But the wacky thing Donovan does is run towards the opposition with the ball. Then even crazier takes the ball past defenders. Doesn’t just turn and pass back.
That’s the type of thing that makes 3 points so much more likely, and brings enjoyment too.

God. It’s almost like you don’t see us going round, over and through the opposition on a daily basis. PlayStation managers everywhere.

Fred Dineage with never a combed hair out of place, was a main man on YTV at the time. I remember him interviewing a United player after a game on Sunday soccer or whatever it was and he had a Blades tie on. He said he was pleased to wear the tie after being presented with it. Later moved to the South coast for Solant tv and became involved with Portsmouth fc. His daughter was an MP and is now a dame I believe.

Jack Hargreaves went on to front a weekly daytime programme called 'Out of Town', about countryside stuff and long forgotten crafts and craftsmanship. I used to watch it when I went home from school for mi dinner. I'm sure The Fast Show's Bob Flemming was based (Loosely) on Hargreaves.

Used to love that programme.
I did as well, they actually showed you stuff that that was more exciting than sticky back plastic to a 10 year old. Like mixing vinegar and baking powder, and my favourite - making a biscuit tin explode with flour and a candle (highlighting the fire risks in flour mills). Like Val Singleton, Bunty James wasn't fit to me at that time , that came a bit later when Susan Stranks rocked up on Magpie.

I used to love it in the 90s.

They revived it under the name How 2.
