Why isn’t there a non biased, non influential paper out there? Each seem to push their own agenda or what they think their readers want, where’s honesty gone?

As someone who spent over 25 years in publishing, following my father into the profession, I can tell you that it’s directly linked to the birth and growth of the internet. Without advertising, which made up a far higher percentage of revenue than the cover price, they slowly died. Mass reach via the web is so cheap that the press didn’t stand a chance. With it went the “luxury” of well researched, objective journalism, replaced by ever more sensational and extreme click bait as they desperately tried to cling on to dwindling audiences. I worked for the Daily Express in the early ‘80’s, then a moderate mid market paper that sold 2.2 million copies a day (about 100,000 more than the Mail). I doubt it sells more than 500k now. They and the essential strong regional press have been replaced by a well organised, highly professional network of manipulative “news” websites catering for every, previously marginalised, bunch of nutters allowing them to drive agendas which are actually massively unrepresentative of what most tolerant and informed people believe in. We should be under no illusion that, much as some people think journalists are the scum of the earth, they play(ed) a significant role in holding big business and the mechanisms of state to account. Sadly, this is failing. Would Watergate, Profumo or Thalidomide have been exposed today? I fear not. The diminishing of a truly independent press is IMHO the greatest threat to democracy today. It boils my piss that politicians of every hue regularly refuse to be interviewed by the mainstream yet it is now commonplace and accepted without the outrage it should attract. Why isn’t there a non biased, non influential paper out there? This is the same Daily Mail that today published an article about how Sheffield student union were holding a "meeting" in which white students were not allowed.
This sounded quite worrying so I did some deep digging. Turns out that this "meeting about racism" is actually a focus group asking to hear the experiences of ethnic minority students. The real story being that a supposed journalist either doesn't know or care about what a focus group actually is.
They were even rich enough to use the phrase "you couldn't make it up" in the article.
They have absolutely no regard for things like context, objectivity, or integrity, and yet they have massive influence.

And aren't there lots of new wonder drugs just about to be tested on human volunteers? (or is that the Daily Express??)Bit harsh that, we do need to know when it's next going to snow for 100 days![]()
There is one poster on here who religiously regurgitates the Mail’s offerings. It’s no surprise they are one of the most hate-filled, bigoted posters on here.My now deceased 95 year old mother took the Mail every day until her death this year. She viewed it's news as gospel and her politics were as described by herself as "to the right of Atilla the Hun". Strangely she detested Princess Diana, the thin dim lass and "that half caste".
Sometimes you just have to accept that the death of another Daily Mail reader is a blessing to the rest of the world.
Frank's got no axe to grind. He always speaks positively about us when I talk to him, even though he has a close association with Bruce and Morgs.Matt Barlow is a pig. He's also Frank Barlow's son and wasn't happy with the way that his dad was sacked by text message. He also works with Martin Samuel as has been pointed out.
Non-story.
tbf every country on the planet is built on genocide and slavery so you can put the halo awayOther than Adolf and friends I cant think of a more white supremacist bunch of C**** than Americans. Obviously there are exceptions, but the country is built on genocide and slavery, it really grinds my gears.

Frank is long enough in the tooth to not worry. His sons however might feel differently.Frank's got no axe to grind. He always speaks positively about us when I talk to him, even though he has a close association with Bruce and Morgs.
It's a bullshit article, but just the sort of thing the Mail normally puts out. I don't see anything overly biased given their raison d'etre and associated readership.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with that article. It makes its point about the donation to a potentially dodgy charity, which is newsworthy in my view because it concerns the owner of the club.
The pros and cons of the organisation concerned are given. The Prince gets the opportunity to reply and deal with the Bin Laden link.
In the end it's a damp squib, but it's exactly the sort of thing reporters should be bringing up, and the readers can decide for themselves. There is no sensationalism about it.
Football supporters are much too tribal. Anything appearing to present a club in a negative light is immediately attacked without thinking because, well, it's "us".
It's a shame more light isn't shone on football clubs, their owners and their practices.
I hope not, but I wouldn't be surprised if this is a leak from the McCabe family....in fact I'd say it probably is![]()
Sheffield United owner made £90,000 donation to controversial US group
EXCLUSIVE BY MATT BARLOW: Sheffield United owner Prince Abdullah gave more than £90,000 to a controversial Muslim civil rights group which divides opinion in the United States.www.dailymail.co.uk
Before reading the article, I feared the worst but it seems like a total non-story to me.
They’ve obviously been trying to dig up the “dirt” on PA since he won the ownership battle.
I’m quite happy if this is the worst they can come up with.
He tried all the reputable ones to sell his story but settled with these guys.I think I saw McCabe sitting in the concourse of Manchester Piccadilly around midday yesterday. It certainly looked like him but he was scruffily suited and carrying a couple of cases of files. Does he usually look a litle scruffy when out? He was with another smaller individual. Had they been to a meeting valuing the propery?
He was also reading the Daily Mail.
Name and shame thenThere is one poster on here who religiously regurgitates the Mail’s offerings. It’s no surprise they are one of the most hate-filled, bigoted posters on here.
How would McCabe know?I hope not, but I wouldn't be surprised if this is a leak from the McCabe family....in fact I'd say it probably is

It will change. Years ago Pub Grub and Wimpy had a similar effect in food, and Carling / castlemain 4x in beer. But, there is a large enough proportion of people who don't want that. Eventually the good stuff will return. As someone who spent over 25 years in publishing, following my father into the profession, I can tell you that it’s directly linked to the birth and growth of the internet. Hmmm, condemning virtually a whole nation, in the name of condemning racism???Other than Adolf and friends I cant think of a more white supremacist bunch of C**** than Americans. Obviously there are exceptions, but the country is built on genocide and slavery, it really grinds my gears.
