Would a new Contract offer for Chris and his management team be amiss? Given that United have given new and improved contracts recently to essential and deserving players, why not the same treatment for the 3 most influential members of our club?

Hardly a managerial vacancy is announced of late without our Chris being mentioned as a great candidate. That doesn't seem so different to giving Brooks & co better contracts to ward off the would-be predators.

If anything that could railroad our best ever team in my lifetime, it could be the loss of any one of the 3 management team. I'm not sure that Chris & co would be interested in moving for mega money offers, but it would be well worth giving them extra for what they have already done and what they are likely to do going forward. If we consider how little it has cost in his player purchases compared with others in the same job, any increase in cost that their salary increases could still be a total saving to the club in continued excellent value for money bargain buys.

Is it time for the supporters to back their case in a similar way that players were supported?

Yes it would, he's done nowt yet.

As we know from NKT, any idiot could have got us out of that 'pub league' and so far it is just a 'good start' and 'pashun' that has got us near the top. It won't last and once DirtyLeeds thrash us, we will go tumbling down the table.

Taking into account the likely points deduction for kidney punching fans, we will do well to even match Rovrum's points tally from last season.

Wilder out!

The be fair, I think the point very much is that CW isn't mentioned for any big job at all. Just by googling, I can't see his is at 50/1 and 40th on the list for the next Everton job. We shouldn't complain, but it's ridiculous some of the names that are more likely than Chris Wilder. Shows the pompous nature of the premier league and we are going to benefit from it. No club would look twice at Wilder and that works just fine for me!

NB a couple of examples of managers 'more likely' to get the Everton job than wilder:

David Unsworth
Ryan Giggs
Steve Clarke
Mikel Arteta
Mark warburton

Laughable.

That's not quite right though is it?

Those are the odds that the bookies use to take money off mug punters. Most of the aforesaid mugs have heard of Giggs but not Wilder, so will dutifully stick their tenner on.

I would imagine that Everton might well have CW as a long shot, but I'd be amazed if he isn't well ahead of Giggs and Arteta in their rankings.

I am aware, hence why I put 'more likely' in quotation marks!

A stat came up on the debate last night, which was interesting:

The last time a premier league club took an English manager from outside of the premier league was 2008. Amazing

Very sad for English football that.

Foreign manager = cultured, exotic and sexy especially to foreign owners
English manger = dour, hard working but unimaginative.

Having said that, long may it continue, so that CW can remain unmolested at the Lane.

A new contract would be totally pointless.

If we double Wilders contract, another PL could double it again.
So we decide to treble Wilders contract, however another PL could still double that etc etc.

Whatever we offer, we can’t compete financially with any PL club.
We need to encourage Wilders to stay in different ways and it’s not money based.

In the paper today Ryan giggs says its a job he would like, yeah I bet he would, dont start at the bottom and get your hands dirty Ryan, only a premier team, and one of the biggest for Ryan, mind you I may be doing him a disservice, to Ryan Everton is probably at the bottom and he sees it as a start on his climb up to man u, barca and real Madrid, sorry Ryan, my bad :-(

What I'm finding quite amusing is that some of our lot are saying its a joke that Wilder isn't being considered for one of these Prem vacancies then Rio Ferdinand floats his name for Burnley and he gets absolute pelters.

Another way of looking at it is that the club signed up Wilder first with the players following suit.

What I'm finding quite amusing is that some of our lot are saying its a joke that Wilder isn't being considered for one of these Prem vacancies then Rio Ferdinand floats his name for Burnley and he gets absolute pelters.

Mainly because our fans are linking Wilder with decent Premier League jobs, not Burnley - no disrespect to them but I'd say we're a bigger club and I see no reason why we can't surpass them in the next few years. Dyche has done a great job there but they're at the limits of their potential.

Might be because a lot of people see Rio as a bit of a twat no matter what he says.

Like with me, Keith Lemon could give me my winning lottery cheque, but I'd still think he was a twat.

Rio Ferdinand is a bit of a clown. Linked Wilder to a job which wasn’t available at a side he deems lower than Everton and they sacked their manager.

Alright, tin hat on - I know we love the fact that CW likes a beer; makes him more ‘relatable’ if you’ll excuse a dreadful bit of modern HR speak, but is Peroni really that exciting? Isn’t it just a bog standard Euro lager?

Or is it just another in the growing list of S2 4SU tropes, like maggots, Nokia ring tone, the fax machine, WUEDP, GLTTL, shark attacks, alloys, and so on?

Do you see him more as a sex on the beach kind of guy?

Way I see it is if we (McCabe) were prepared to pi55 £millions (I'm guessing) on paying off failures like Wier, Clough, Adkin's and Hammond it would be money well invested to reward success for once. It wouldn't hurt his wallet as much either.

Make no mistake if a PL club came and offered them millions for success or failure no one could blame them for securing their families for life.

It was along these lines that sparked off my ill researched thread. In my defence, I've not been well. :-(

So to clarify, Wilder hasn’t asked for a new contract.

No club has approached us to speak to Wilder.

Wilder recently signed a contract he presumably was happy with.

Some Z list ex footballer has suggested Wilder would move to Burnley with no foundation for this.

Some blokes on a message board have suggested clubs might come in for Wilder.

I’m failing to see which of these points indicate a new contract?

Shall we give him a new contract every time someone gets sack or every time we win a match?

Only in S2

Peroni used to be one of my favourite light but tasty lagers, with some strength, but that was probably 20 years ago - Then it started to be sold on draught in pubs :( Now every chav in the street seems to be into it..
Talking of CW though, I had heard some tale that he had recently/was about to move house within this fair city of ours

I left Sheffield in 2004 when the lager of choice seemed to be Stella Artois, I moved to Italy (where I drank a lot of Peroni) for 2 years then have lived in Australia since. I enjoy reading this forum to keep up to date on this great time in our clubs history & the northern English sense of humour that doesn't exist here. However one thing that confuses me is the amount of references to Peroni...did I drink that much in my time in Italy that the Italians decided that Sheffield would be a great new market & it really took off? ..or is a country wide thing?

Good morning/evening/afternoon* Oz!

It’s pretty much a country-wide thing but it seems Mr Wilder has rather a soft spot for it. It is a nice lager - as you well know.
FYI though, this week’s best stat for me was that the UK now has over 2000 breweries for the first time since the 1930’s.
Speciality ‘traditional ales’ are very much the flavour now so if you come home you can easily get a nice pint of ‘Ferret’s Testicle’, ‘Vicar’s Bald-Spot’, ‘Mad Bus-Stop’ or the like in most pubs.
Some of them are even nice.
All of them are a lot harder to fit into a song than Magnet.
Sorry for the ramble - wide awake at 4am.

* delete as appropriate

Thanks for that...it wasn't keeping me awake at night or anything, I just wondered. But what's keeping you wide awake at 4am, not enough Peroni?!

I think I'd find a few changes in Sheffield since 2004...from reading the news I hear there are less pubs & less trees which are 2 things I liked about my home town, so that's not good...if its true? What's happening down at BDTBL more than makes up for it though. The joy the CW/AK era is bringing to my mum & dad who are still season ticket holders now in their late 70s makes me very happy.

Anyway FYI its 2pm here & I'm at work, should get on
