Enda Stevens is great. Our left hand side is probably as good as it gets in the Championship, what with O'Connell overlapping from fucking centre back!

HOWEVER, I just wish, with every bone in my body, that Enda Stevens would please STOP stopping and cutting back having just gone on a long lung busting run down the wing. EARLY BALL ENDA, PLEASE!!!

He's not a bad crosser, maybe keeps it a bit too low, but if he just whacked it in the box 70% of the time, rather than cutting back 70% of the time, I think his already decent assist ratio would go through the roof.

Especially with England's most prolific striker waiting in the box!

:-)

Without that service you are hoping for our left hand side is not amongst the best.

I think Stevens is struggling a bit for confidence going forward, defensively he is superb.. He has made a big step up from League 2 and needs to believe he can do it in the final third week in week out. Early days yet and he will find his level. I think he will get better and needs to if he wants to be part of a promotion winning side.

When he first broke into the team, he loved an early ball in.
I was really excited by his early performances and thought that he’d chip in quite a few goals but he hasn’t really delivered. He’s sound enough at defending, he just isn’t doing what I hoped he would up front. That said, the biggest loss at the moment are the overlaps on the right hand side or, more particularly, the quality of delivery.

It's also much more difficult for him at the moment as opposition managers know we'll be doing most of the pressing down the left.

We're lucky to have the left-footed trio of O'Connell, Stevens and Fleck.

Makes you wonder if he's been told to stop them in favour of ball retention.

Without knowing all the stats in terms of how often his early crosses were turning over possession rather than setting up a chance, I can't really back up my theory.

It just feels to me that we often give away the momentum created from bursting down the left by turning backwards

Teams defend deep against us and usually have three centre halves waiting for the cross, hence us trying to work an opening, rather than crossing hopefully.

But there has to be a balance and on the occasions we've caught them out we need to attack with tempo before they get back in numbers.
