As the partnership is between the Sheffield Uni's, I would imagine it would only be applicable to students there. Happy to be proved wrong!

This is my point fella, but the Mickerz complaint is that it should apply to all students - I question if the cub think they can control the flow through Sheffield, but would find 99% of it's supporters were "students" if they opened it up too widely.

To get those cards Sheffield/Sheffield Hallam would see a dramatic rise in mature students enrolling on its courses! I.e. You can't just pitch up and get a card you actually have to be studying there :)

I remember taking my SUFC forms to be signed and stamped by my University secretary. As renewal time came just prior to the end of the academic year I sneaked a whole extra season of discounted football out of it as my final act before graduating. Sorry Blades.

My university card has no expiration date on it. Which is handy for discounts at the apple store :)

For the love of God Rodders! - Have you read this thread? :D

Mickerz is suggesting ALL students from ALL universities be treated the same by SUFC. I am not referring to the Sheffield Universities and their students.

Not really. Only those who can quote the exact attendance of the Port Vale game in '99.

I stopped going in protest when I found out were shit , came As quite a shock ill tell ya
Anyway I'm not going back until we're good or I can be arsed

The club don't need to do anything to attract the loyal student, they do need to do something to attract the other students.

Sheffield apparently has a very high rate of student retention post graduation. It makes perfect sense to try and get them hooked whilst they're here.

You might as well moan about season ticket holders not getting a good deal, when the club does £10 or quid a kid games.

You know if my brother had gone to one of the Sheffield Uni's then he would have got the deal. Because he went elsewhere he is losing out. No one is suggesting anyone person in a particular group has to be catered for, Just that if he came home on the day of that offer to other students he should pay the same. he would still go on other days that the offer was not on and has done.
Think if they said that all residents with a Sheffield postcode for five games got a £7.50 discount. How would the out of town loyal supporters as yourself Olle , Pompey B I T or Bushey would feel if they turned up to find that a couple of hundred or so had paid a pie and a Pints worth or so more and they'd journeyed a good way to get to the game and others had just turned up for the offer.

I think the problem is there is no flexibilty . I have a problem ,in that my son who has a season ticket every year wants to keep that record up ,however he is in Afghanistan from October for 7 months so would not be able to attend quite a few. I have taken a friend on his ticket and upgraded so the club dont miss out ,however this has been only allowed 6 times a season ,therefore it is simply not financially viable for him to get one. No way will the club give any leeway on this ,so they have lost a season ticket holder next season ,as well as the upgrades my friend would pay and also pissed my lad off quite a bit. I dont actually see how this is open to abuse but hey ho. :(

Blades face tough test on Saturday

The Blades are back in action at Bramall Lane on Saturday when they face MK Dons.
The Dons will be riding high after their 3-0 victory over league leaders Doncaster last night but the Blades will be looking to continue their excellent run of form with a win in front of the home crowd.
Tickets for Saturday’s game are priced from £22 Adults, £17 Concessions and just £5 for Junior Blade Members.
Tickets are on sale in person, over the telephone on 0871 995 1889 or online at www.sufc.talent-sport.co.uk.
Fans are as usual advised to book early to avoid expected match day queues at the Ticket Office.

Here is your latest offer.
On match days where people get in for a tenner, no one is penalized because the discount is already included in the season ticket price.
So the penalizing of loyal supporters is not good.
Can anyone give examples where loyal supporters are put at a disadvantage or penalized in a similar way to this student system?

It turns out SUFC have a 'partnership' with the Sheffield Uni s which appears to be one way as the Uni s themselves get nothing from SUFC but they sell cheap tickets on behalf of SUFC. ( An inquiry was made as to the nature of the partnership and the above is what we were told it was).

I don't think I'm breaching any confidentiality agreements or treading on anyone's toes by saying that as far as the our Union's agreement with United goes, the above isn't true.

We sell tickets for selected (low category) United matches to students for a fiver from our Union Box Office (where Ucards are checked... it's one ticket per Ucard) and I think we do get a tiny kickback on that that gets reinvested in our Sports Clubs. I don't know the intricacies of the arrangement though.

Similar agreement with tickets for the Sty but all matches are available and tickets cost £6 £8... I've just had a wander upstairs to look.

I'm sure it used to be the case that tickets weren't available on a game-by-game basis to students at all as I would've investigated it while I was at college/University.

Thanks Linz.
More info than united were prepared to give. Foxy did mention earlier in the post that he may be able to talk to someone. I don't know how practical that is for either of you or if you will get anywhere?
as someone asked above is their any category where tickets may be on offer for a certain game that penalizes loyal fans in such a way?
At the moment they have lost five fans because of a lack of communication, refusing to answer some reasonable questions.
Edit:
so now you're telling me that there have been many more games that my Student Brother could have got in for for £5 if he was a student at Sheffield?

Mickerz... this is from 2009 but I think the arrangement is still the same... not sure about staff though:

The University of Sheffield has signed new deals with Sheffield’s sporting institutions that will raise money for the University’s sports clubs.

The agreement involves discounted tickets to home matches for University students and staff.

The deals are extremely important for University sport because for every ticket that is sold, £1 goes to support the University’s sports clubs.

Andy Cox, the Club Sport Manager, said: “This is a deal that benefits both the students directly and University sport in general. The money coming back into club sport will be vital in buying equipment and organising sports events.

“It will enable us to maintain the University’s status as a real force in student sport, and help to popularise the sports that are less well known as others.”

It is estimated that the added revenue will raise up to £5,000 for the benefit of the University’s sports clubs.
It is the fourth year that student discounts have been offered by Sheffield United and the second by Sheffield Wednesday, although this year promises the best deals yet.

It has expanded upon those set out last year, with Sheffield United offering more discounted matches this season, currently six over the season, at £5 a ticket.

Sheffield Wednesday are offering all tickets for home games at the discounted price of £5 from October 17, with the exception of the derby game and the fixture against Newcastle United.

With both teams expecting to put up a challenge for promotion, United having actually reached the playoffs last year, this represents an exciting and unique opportunity for football fans.

Sheffield Steelers, Sheffield’s successful ice hockey team who last year won the Elite League, are also offering home game tickets for £5 from the October 3, presenting another opportunity to see one of Sheffield’s finest sporting teams in action.

Andy Cox emphasised the need for greater co-operation between the sports clubs. “If we are to keep progressing in university sport then the clubs will need to work together and help each other out.

“This is the third year we have held a club training day at Bramall Lane and we hope to continue our policy of club co-operation and maintaining a professional approach to club sport.

“Under the supervision of new Union Sports Officer Kate Rickard, I’m sure we can look forward to a great year for student sport in Sheffield.”

Tickets for these events can be bought at the Union Box Office with the possession of a valid UCard.

In other news which may interest the Radley's, I noticed some info in the ticket office on Saturday which suggests a Living Social offfer on for the Brentford game - adults @ £9, adults +jnr @£12.

Aye... think the last time they did the offer it was a Sky game too.
