Cup Win vs. League Survival?

It's a shame you're so myopic the football league is 92 clubs well 72 plus PL, I can tell your no nipper but football started well before 92 mate.

Did it really. I was beginning to think I'd imagined those games I'd watched between 1962 and then.

You can cut it whichever way you like but United have still won fuck all since 1925.

Ah well goodbye and god bless

How could two premotions under Mr Wilder possibly compare with those cup runs in div 3 under Mr Clough...……….

A "cup run" doesn't count for anything at all in a historical roll of honour. Who's saying it does and who's saying they surpass Wilder's promotions?

You two sound like a couple of pigs with their 0-0 "wins".

The argument is being presented as follows;

We won’t win the cup because CW has prioritised the league.

(I agree with that bit).

If CW prioritised the cups instead of the league, we’d win one but it might cost us relegation.

This is the bit I don’t agree with. We could prioritise the cups and still not win one. That is the most likely outcome, because the cups tend to be won by one of the who finished in the top six last season. Saying we can win a cup by prioritising them is slightly less unrealistic than saying ‘if we prioritise the league, we can win it’.

So it’s really a hypothetical question based around a false premise. It’s not a real choice. (And to anyone thinking ‘yeah, but Wigan’ I’d respond by saying ‘yeah but Leicester’).

Are you for real ……. :D :D :D :D

I am for real unfortunately for you and I also fail to understand your post. Could you please inform me what's unreasonable about dismissing Clough's cup runs vs Wilder's promotions? I look forward to a reply with a bit of substance this time rather than a page full of emojis.

Oh another bigger Blade eh ?
Obviously sarcasm is way beyond you, but in fact it's you that are sounding like the WUM.

What on earth are you blathering on about?

FA Cup or League Cup, and yeah fair point there is a difference between the two though treating them the same here.

Interesting point about Middlesborough which shows the 'risk'. Though the FA cost them:

'It was a season mired in controversy too, with Middlesbrough docked three points by the Football Association after claiming they were unable to field a team for an away fixture at Blackburn due to injury and illness. It proved the ultimate sanction, with those three points proving the difference between staying up and going down.'

There's an article about it here: https://www.planetfootball.com/nostalgia/tribute-fantastic-flawed-middlesbrough-side-96-97/

Don't know if those injuries were as a result of cup runs, Boro blade Boroblade1889 any idea?
Boro squad were hit by flu for the Blackburn match and the club decided to call off the match. The 3 point deduction on Boro was some weeks after the fixture was scheduled to play.

Lincoln won the Checkatrade in 2018 at Wembley so the list is even smaller...

Cheers bud. I think it is a really shocking stat and shows just how shit we are. It is why I hate it when blades say can't be arsed with this cup or that cup. F me we've won precisely zilch since 19 bloody 25. Nearly 100 frigging years!!!

It's a tricky one. For this season, I think I'd take survival, locking up another season's worth of TV money so we can further improve the team, improve the infrastructure, so I can move back to the Kop without fucking pillars in the way, and so that if we did end up going down we'd be in an excellent position to come straight back up quickly.

From then though, what are we in football to do? Win stuff. Mickey Mouse Cup, don't care. I'd love to be able to go to Wembley and watch us pick up a trophy. I want to be able to watch us in all of Europe's big destinations, like Cluj, Trondheim, Dudelange and Glasgow
